Graduation Project: Community Center of Wadi Degla Project Brief: Achieving Social Sustainability In Public Spaces During Post Pandemic Age Is the main focus of the project. The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic has forced us to redefine our lifestyles and every social aspect to them. A few year ago, what had seemed like a temporary lockdown where life would be expected to go back to ‘normal’ after has stretched into months and into over a year where there still seems like a long way ahead. But life does not stop and we must adapt and morph our public spaces with our newly acquired awareness of safety distances and imposed measures to regenerate and redefine what a safe public space both can and cannot be. A place such as a sporting club would have to drastically adjust to the new current day safety measures where the ‘limitations’ of social interaction are addressed and acknowledged as design elements which can offer a safe, comfortable and well-functioning space.
This thesis provides a design proposal in which Wadi Degla (El Nakhil) Sporting Club can adjust to be a well-functioning public space which is both safe and inclusive. In order to achieve that, several questionnaires and surveys were carried out to better understand the use and preferences of a big group of people which was then taken into account to come up with an accommodating design in several chosen zones like the transitional areas, restaurant and administration building. The newly-found aspects of ‘safe’ zones are explored and used as a key element of design to come up with a concept providing design solutions that instill a feeling of inclusivity and promote social interaction while remaining safe and that would still be relevant and well-functioning even post pandemic.
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic spread worldwide much greater attention has been given to the concept of the zones surrounding each person, pecially after the WHO (World Health Organization) announced that the safe distance for social interaction amid the pandemic is 1.8m which became the new minimum radius for the social zone.
This is the site plan for wadi degla sports club -El Nakhil compound.
“Centralization Of Space” Every circle identify each person. By connecting circles together with the defined minimum physical distance, these circles connect making groups and groups make community. The main focus is to make healthy communities that result for social sustainability in post pandemic age. This could also be achieved by integrating neuroscience.

Master plan The project is evolving around the community center. This is the master plan focusing on the restaurant’s new normal planning for the indoor and outdoor area. facing a lack. As the restaurant is the ost interactive area . The second zone is the library.

Ground floor plan
Within a short span of time the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives, it also changed our perspective in the interior materials that should be used. All materials should be antibacterial/viral. So The used materials are terrazzo which is a non-porous material. wall paint can be mixed to any paint colour to make it antimicrobial in nature. And the copper which had proven to slip virus form its surface faster than other reflective materials.

Indoor
Here, Every table has a digital screen for the menu and to order. For less communication with waiters to decrease the viral transmission. There is also a UV Light bulb on each table to disinfect virus constantly.
The glass partitions here are rotational moving inside a grill and rotates on a pivot. This also seperates the tables and also could be rotated to expand the seatings The interior space is designed based on the design concept with the circles and voids. The circulation is radial to the centre of the plan so it facilitates the movement from the indoor to the outdoor area.
The circular barriers are to seperate groups for social distancing. However it could also be used to open more groups together if there is a large group.
There are guiding stickers on the floor to manage the movement inside the restautant and to always remind people to keep the social distance.
Outdoor The outdoor materials are also non-porous. And terazzo material is used for table tops.
The Floor design is also designed with the connected circles to emphasis the seatings and torestrict movement.
Greenery could also be used as partitions/barriers to seperate people.
The outdoor space is designed with the same concept. The bench steps have void spaces to seperate individuals.
There is also a bar to surve the drinks.

The colors are chosen based on the neurosciene study. The left built in seats are to help in social distancing.
This glass is to seperate the interactive zone which has the interactive screens, make people take online classesor even watch videos. These arrows help for good circulation. The entrance has a standing screen that has face recognition knowing if every user is wearing a face mask, it also had hand disinfectants. The library has a QR code for each member to help them find any book and know from where to get it.
This zone is the working space. Which also has soft seats for easy movement.
The library has the private seats, this zone is also designed using the 1.6m distance. The LED lights has UV for disinfecting the visruses.
“Siwa Vernacular Resort” “It is a term used to categorize methods of construction which use locally available resources and traditions to address local needs.”
Recidential Hotels (Design Studio 5)
This resort is located in Siwa. The design concept here is to merge between Vernacular and Modern design. This is achieved by using earthy materials which are relaxing with curved lines which gives excitement and a dynamic feeling to the place. It gives a merging feeling with nature and calmness achieved using light/neutral color tones, combined with modern design which gives the luxurious feeling that fits all classes.
The project was focusing on specific zones; The lobby which is the most important as it gives the first impression for the users. Secondly the restaurant and the restort bedroom and corridor.

“De Sigual”
Retail store: Redesigning Desidual
Desigual is a Spanish word means “unequal” or “uneven”. It’s a clothing store that was headquartered in Barcelona. This brand is also known for it’s patchwork, intense prints, and graffiti art, asymmetry and always bright colors . Founded in 1984. Desigual claims to have a philosophy based on positivity, tolerance, commitment and fun. This was achieved by the colorful patterns. This store is inspired from seashells which was achieved in wall patterns (gypsum board). It was also inspired from nature ( leaves), that was designed for the ceiling.
Flooring, false ceilings and exhibition furniture in white and oak (natural and smoked), face green walls and screens that project fireplaces, forming cozy corners. The wall cladding, made up of a set of moldings that generate a geometric pattern, forms a play of textures that accompanies the space. The signage, applied throughout the route in blue neon, draws attention to the chromatic harmony created by the natural tones .

Inspired by the movement of meditation , which is the connection to the earth with clean powerful forms and materials. It is important to follow notions of lightness and calm – a deep approach which has been achieved through very simple means. Fine detailing, modern furniture and features, finishes application and layering, bring to the space look and feel of class.

Sea Restaurant & Cafe
This is a visualizing project, the restaurant/cafe is on a sea view . It was named “El-kham” as all the materials are raw.
With the aim to create a laid-back, cozy atmosphere, interiors are inspired from travels around the world. Vintage pieces, handmade objects and curious treasures create a fresh and colorful ambiance, with accents of exposed stone walls, timber decks and pergolas.
Visualizations
All visualizations are done with 3dmax program, corona and vray renderers.
This is for practising porpuses.

Furniture Design
Furniture is the primary tool for designers to make a space functional. With so many styles of furniture available in the market today, it is the task of the designers to rightfully select the ones that fit the need and want of their clients in order to create a space that they will enjoy.
Some of the furniture pieces was designed for a startup firm, it’s still on going, did not launch yet. Other pieces were for university tasks.
