IN THE AFTERMATH OF HARVEY The City of Nassau Bay continues in the recovery phase in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, in which we received unprecedented rain. We are working to resume normal operations, and are focused on the wellbeing of every person in our City and in our surrounding communities. The City of Nassau Bay's Office of Emergency Management is still compiling information on the extent of the flood damage in our community. If your home experienced any damage, we kindly ask you to complete Nassau Bay's Flood Damage Report form. This form is found on our website at www.nassaubay.com/flooddamage. Moving forward, please visit our website www.nassaubay.com/harvey for additional information on Harvey recovery and next steps. We are continuously updating this page as information becomes available.
Although the extreme weather invoked a moment of murkiness, the beauty of Nassau Bay never wavered. Our splendor shines brighter today than it did before. Our City sets the example for other municipalities around the nation because of our sense of community, displayed togetherness, and spirit. There were neighbors reaching out to neighbors, residents loaning equipment for search and rescue to NBVFD, past residents reaching out to help, churches and community groups organizing relief efforts, and local businesses supporting operational readiness. I do not have the words to express the pride I feel in being Mayor of this City. -Mayor Mark A. Denman

Hurricane Harvey reminds us more than ever the importance of staying informed prior to, during, and after a disaster. These alerts help keep you informed and safe in the event of emergency situations, including: severe weather, road construction, water issues, etc. Sign up to receive Nassau Bay Alerts at www.nassaubay.com/alerts. The City also does its best to try and communicate via several different channels, including social media. During Harvey, these channels were vital in getting out information quickly. FIRE PREVENTION WEEK As Fire Prevention week approaches, the Nassau Bay Volunteer firefighters are preparing to visit local schools the week of October 8-14, 2017. The theme of this year's Fire Prevention week is "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” The Fire Department encourages citizens to develop a home fire escape plan with all members of their household and practice it twice a year. The Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department is also pleased to host their annual Open House on Friday, October 13th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm (120 Surf Court). The Open House is the culminating event of Fire Prevention Week. All City residents are welcome to attend and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and snacks, share stories as we recover from Hurricane Harvey, learn more about the new Fire Station being built on Upper Bay Drive, and generally have a good night out with the whole family. The Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer organization, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The City relies on the department for fire and rescue services and the fire department depends on the volunteer efforts of those living in the City and nearby communities. For anyone interested in joining the department, this would also be a great opportunity to come and meet the volunteers, see the equipment / apparatus and pick up an application form. Though certainly advantageous, prior firefighting experience is not required. All necessary training and equipment can be provided after joining.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT OCT 3RD This year's National Night Out is Tuesday,
October 3, 2017. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhood a safer, more caring place to live. It is intended to send a message to criminals letting them know that our neighborhoods are invested in the unity and quality of our community. Groups organize block parties and are visited by local public safety personnel and City dignitaries. Police Officers and City Staff will make their rounds to visit each registered block party. To find the party nearest you, visit the City's website at www.nassaubay.com/nno. All block party captains registered with the Police Department can be seen online on the National Night Out map. Questions? Call us at 281.333.4211 ext. 2212.
DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE Clear Creek Community Theatre presents a new take on the classic story
of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On the fog-bound streets of Victorian-era London, Henry Jekyll’s experiments with exotic “powders and tinctures” have brought forth his other self - Edward Hyde, a villain, free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. Performances are October 20th through November 5th at 8:00pm, Fridays and Saturdays, with Matinées at 2:30pm on Sundays. For information, call 281.335.5228.
