RAYON TWO MASTER THESIS PROJECT

An affecting example of the post industrial remains is the prefabricated mass housing. What is the value of this architecture? Why we would preserve it? Soviet microdistricts became unsustainable in terms of urbanism. However, i belive the space and structures of these districts have the potential to become a good platform for creating sustainable communities. Preserving the configuration of the districts where social activity is supported by the master plan, providing more individual freedom and eliminating the existing problems using architectural tools, we could turn these places into attractive ones. Using the socialist vision of community and the modern ideals of diversity in facilities and actions “Rayon Two” aims to create better ecology and safety, centers and businesses in each neighborhood and change the “sleeping districts” into communities that will host a new “green” regime moving towards a sustainable way of life.

THE INTERVENTION IN KAPOTNYA DISTRICT CASE:

EXISTING PLAN functions

EXISTING PLAN

•increasing housing density - from 27200 dwellers to 41300 dwellers. •Renovating residential buildings in a way that does not imply relocation of dwellers. •Increasing green area in order to create a better ecology.

residential educational

•Creating facilities to support small businesses, for a better social infrastructure and decentralization of the city. •Economically supporting sustainability, for a better food security, ecology and economy in the district.

PUBLIC SPACE (COMPETITION)

Competition and student project. 2010. Moscow. 1st prize. tutors: Valeriy Orlov. author: Sandra Poliakova.

Ethnomir is a big ethnological park and museum placed 90 km away from Moscow city. There you can visit houses of different ethnoses, try their food and clothes, learn traditional crafrs etc. The design of the sqare consists of three triangular sheds which function as canopies protecting from sun, rain and snow and interactive educational courts using projection mapping underneath showing educational videos about nature and ethnography. Whan the weather is fine the visitors can lay on the grass which is on top of the triangles. There is an amphythetre and a little scene in the middle of the sqare where festivals, workshops and lecture events can be hosted.

RECREATION AND CULTURE CENTER

Student project at MArchI (Moscow Architecture Institute). 2012. Moscow. tutors: Nikolay Lyzlov, Andrey Morgunov, Sergey Muratov. author: Sandra Poliakova.

This is a project of a recreation center in the scientific center Chernogolovka. It’s made on Shkolnyy bulevard, near a school and a social club wich holds shops, a stomtology,a barbershop and a library. The recreation center responds to the style of this two buildings and to the masterplan of the toun, the pergola repeats the main axis. The program of the center includes a lecture hall, a cafe, a library, clas rooms and a ramp for invalides and evacuation.

MUSEUM

Student project at MArchI (Moscow Arvhitecture Institute). 2013. Moscow. tutors: Nikolay Lyzlov, Andrey Morgunov, Sergey Muratov. author: Sandra Poliakova.

This is a project of a museum in the historical center of Moscow, on Nikolskaya street which contents Red Sqare and Lubyanskaya Sqare. Notable buildings located on Nikolskaya street include the Monastery of the Holy Sviour and the Former Holy Synod Printing Offices, Russia’s first publishing house. I was inspired of this building and decided ti design a museum for monuments of litherature with a light facade that will not embarrass the buildings arround (most of them are monuments of architecture). The plan reminds an oprnrd book, this shape makes the path through the exhibition comfortable. There are bookshop, cafe, library and a lecture hall on the underground floor. there is a multilighted atrium through all the exhibition floors. The last floor is for staff.

AEON

IaaC (institute for advanced architecture of Catalonia) January -June 2015. Collserola park, Barcelona. Team: Sandra Poliakova, Wilton Neves, Raissa Pertierra. Tutors: Javier Pena, Rodrigo Rubio, Oriol Carrasco.

Aeon - originally meant life or being , though it then intended to mean age in the sense of time , forever or for eternity. An adaptable and accessible agroecological system, that enhaces biodiversity and a healthyer lifestyle. AEON is a project of a vertical garden, which combines agroforestry and an urban orchard concept, aimed to fight agroecological pro- blems all over the world. It s a metabolic cycle that includes economical and sustainable use of resources. To make it work and to be able to test it we researched about the ecosystems, plants and animals inside the forest of valldaura.

•Through gravitation force water will irrigate the plants, and the #1 excess will be transfered to another prototype.

AEON EVOLUTION

STRUCTURE AND ADAPTABILITY

In order to increase the production of agriculture without using more land, through arduino we control the soil moisture, air humidity/temperature, and irrigation to provide the best condition for the plants. Water collected from the green roof and condensed water from the ceiling will go back down to the reservatory, creating a closed looped cycle.

•Aeroponics reduce water usage by 98percent, fertilizer by 60percent and pesticides by 100percent. •The hanged roots recieve more air and nutrients, encreasing the plants cycle by 4 to 6 times. DESERT: of salt water, •The whole system can be left to fall apart, •evaporation the seeds will grow new collected through condensation #2 plants ans the clay shell will give the soil underneath more nutrients.

AEON EVOLUTION

•fog catcher, where water is collected as tiny droplets of moisture condense on big nets

The next prototype was focused on agroforestry, rather than having a controlled structure we opted to link agriculture and the forest by planting vertically rather than horizontally. It is a mix of aeroponics and geoponics, with a water filtration system below.

Through gravitation force, the water will irrigate the plants, and its leftover will be transferred to another prototype Aeroponics reduce water usage by 98%, fertilizer by 60% and pesticides by 100% The hanged roots recieve more air and nutrients, encreasing the plants cycle by 4 to 6 times

RAINFOREST: AEON EVOLUTION

•rainwater collectors, with stores at high altitudes

•plant condensation through photosyntesis

#3

The whole system can be left to fall apart, the seeds inside will grow new plants and the clay shell will give the soil underneath more nutrients

The third is an advancement on the design of the previous prototype, clay is used for its sustainable properties, it can be molded to any shape and degrades into the soil after a period of time.
