And here we go again… The end of the year ! Lately I am starting to feel like it is happening more often than it used to. When I was a child, I felt crazy about how long it took to have Christmas again, and I simply wished to stop adults complaining about the most wonderful season of the year. And I truly believed, by praying, I would be able to push the time forward and get to the Christmas closer. It worked, and as I became an adult, I am asking myself, was it really worth it? The time flies and we don’t realize it. Can you imagine the power of the year? Besides being able to count new wrinkles on our faces, we experience many unbelievable moment, some joyful, some painful, but what matters is the fact, it makes us wiser.

GLAMOUR Trends

As the winter is coming, we want to introduce you the latest trends of this season from the catwalk. Which style fits you the most?

ALL OVER KNITS One of the most prominent trends for Winter was the comfortingly soft, full look in wool, as seen at Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and CĂŠline. This trend works best in neutral tones. Left to right, CĂŠline, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs. A trend also seen at Haider Ackermann, Sonia Rykiel and Paul Smith.

Winter 2014/2015 8

ECCENTRIC FURS Reinterpreted at Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli, ChloĂŠ, Pucci and Versace, this indispensable winter classic became extraordinary: wild influences, patchwork effect and flashes of vibrant red updated the rules of the classic and eternal fur coat. Left to right, Just Cavalli, Alexander McQueen, Fendi. A trend also seen at Versace, Balmain and Marc Jacobs.

XXL COATS An eternal classic, the ¾ length coat cut a longer length this season. The men's overcoat seen at Dior took on a feminine look at Céline with elegant white buttons and a defined waist, while Lanvin made the piece sing in a full black look. Left to right, Céline, Lanvin, Christian Dior. A trend also seen at Miu Miu, Calvin Klein and Costume National.

DUVET COATS For Fall/Winter 2014-2015, quilting is no longer just a feature on bags and leather goods. Worn as a coat, upholstery-style fabric enveloped feminine silhouettes in a cozy cocoon, fashionable protection against sub 32°F temperatures. Left to right, Junya Watanabe, Kenzo, Chloé.

Rules For 7 Adulthood There’s getting older (inevitable), and actually growing up (…evitable). Supposedly the idea is to do the two in unison, but life is sort of like assembling Scandinavian furniture with no instructions—some people get along just fine while others are left lying there sort of sweaty, staring up at the ceiling from the floor of their living room. Miranda Kerr is the first kind of person: supermodel, mom, businesswoman, self-help author, and most recently, star of 7 For All Mankind's fall campaign. For everyone on the other end of the spectrum, her seven tips on successfully entering the adult world: 1. PLAN EVERY LITTLE THING “This is interesting because I've never thought of myself as an ‘adult'—I think of myself as a mom and a businesswoman. I have a free spirit, but I’ve realized

since I had my son that I have to be organized. We’re living such fast-paced lives that if I don’t plan and prioritize even just an hour between jobs to be with my son and paint and draw or go to the park, it doesn’t get done. I even schedule calls to my grandma because otherwise time just goes by. Put all of those little things into your calendar and that way you don’t have to stress about it. You get an alert on your phone that says ‘Call mom!’ and it will just take five minutes to make her happy and to make yourself feel connected. 2. SAY ‘THANK YOU’ I like to pray and I like to meditate. Doing just three minutes of prayer and a minimum of five minutes meditation twice a day sets the tone—like an arrow so that you’re hitting your target. When I pray I always thank Mother Nature for all the beauty in the world; it’s about having an 13

attitude of gratitude. And then I pray to Christ to say, 'Thank you for this day and my family and my health,' and now that I'm older I’ve added, ‘Please illuminate me. Please open my heart chakra. Open my aperture and uplift my consciousness so that I can be the best version of myself.’ 3. EMBRACE FORGIVENESS The power of forgiveness is very important as well. We’re all humans and we all make mistakes—even little things like looking at someone the wrong way, or snapping at someone. But forgiving yourself and asking for forgiveness from the person creates an energy shift. It’s another thing I pray for—‘Please forgive me if I have said

anything to anyone that has hurt someone. Please allow them to forgive me and allow me to forgive myself.’ Even those that we find challenging to be around are sometimes the people that need the prayers the most. If you’ve had an intense conversation with someone, a good thing to do would be to say to them, ‘I forgive you, and please forgive me.’ We all say things sometimes to hurt people, so it’s important to forgive and have peace with others and forgive and be at peace with yourself. 4. HEALTH IS WEALTH I always pack my shake and my lunch to get ready for work because you never know what

you’re going to get when you’re on a photo shoot, or anywhere for that matter. Health is wealth, so be organized. I’ve got my shake with me now—it smells so bad. It has all of my vitamins in there, which I like better than just taking them separately. I mix up açaí powder, real cacao, maca powder, chia seeds, goji berries, as well as all the vitamins, and down it goes... 5. …BUT SET BUDGETS I’m learning about business and money management. I have a budget, even for flowers, because I love flowers and sometimes I spend too much money on them. Looking at my expenses, I was like, ‘Wow, obviously I’m spending way too much money on flowers and massages and acupuncture. I need to cut back.’ Now I have personal care budget, and one for clothing, things like that. I’m a perfectionist and I like to have my nails done, but sometimes I will do them myself instead. It’s about discipline—you have to be on top of things like that. 6. CHOOSE YOUR EMOTIONS David Hawkins was a philosopher that developed a map of the levels of human consciousness called the Scale of Consciousness. At the bottom he has ‘guilt,’ which has a vibration of

that emotion, not dwell in it. Ride it, feel it out, and then choose something else—because you have a choice. People don’t even realize the power the mind has over the body in the way you perceive things. Change your thoughts, change your reality. Words are powerful—every thought and every word we think has an effect on the body. So you can be like, ‘Ugh, I can’t believe it’s raining outside,’ or you can be like, ‘We really needed that rain, it’s going to be so much clearer and brighter tomorrow.’ It’s not about being delusional, but just changing your perspective and understanding that

around 30, meaning it’s the worst kind of feeling. Apathy, grief, fear, and even desire, anger, and pride are below the level of integrity. Above that— and this is where people become better versions of themselves—you’ve got courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, reason, love, which is at 500, joy, and then peace and enlightenment. In his book, Power vs. Force, he talks about disease, which is dis-ease—not being comfortable—and happens in the lower states of mind. Being human you can’t escape these emotions, but what he says is when you feel anger or guilt or fear or whatnot, let yourself ride

there is a positive and a negative to every situation. I do this thing—jumping for joy. I want to start a ‘jumping for joy’ movement. If you’re in a bad mood all you do is just jump up and down and think of everything you’re grateful for. 7. BE A KID I love having fun. I love to dance and having people over for dinner. I’m quite a larrikin [laughs]—that’s someone who’s always cracking jokes and being silly. People don’t necessarily always see that side of me, but I’m a little bit of a jokester. My son is the same, he’s so full of joy. Having a child kind of brings you back to experiencing life with a childlike view, like, ‘Oh wow, this is new and exciting!’ The wonderment and the enthusiasm that they have for life is something that inspires me everyday. Anyway, back to being an adult…” —as told to ITG

E V E LY N BENCICOVA Photograher Evelyn Benčičová is 21 years old and has already build up a name in Berlins creativescene. Her images are thrilling. Her aesthetics is dark and shocking. She calls herself a „Story Creator“ At the UY Event I tried to find out what else she has to say in ten questions. ... FASHION TERROR: Where did you studyed and why did you decided to live here in Berlin, next to Vienna and your hometown Bratislava? EVELYN: I just started my studies at University of applied arts in Vienna, where I’m focused on fine art photography. Before I attended bilingual school without any

art classes so most of my photography skills developed in praxis. I love studying but I still believe that in creative fields of interest like photography you cannot only learn but do what you want at the first place. Even now the work, I’m creating independently from my school project is the biggest and most important part of my portfolio. I spend summer in Berlin and I’m coming back really often because I have to. Berlin has the energy of no other city in the world for me, really creative and open-minded but still friendly, welcoming. I don’t feel lost there. I used to say that I left there half of my soul and I’m coming there to get it

back every time but it is impossible, it just stays here, in this city. FASHION TERROR: What makes this city so special to you? EVELYN: You can be whoever and do whatever you want to do. This city is full of opportunity for new starts and collaborations with a lot of interesting people who are weird and crazy like me. Berlin is something between illusion and reality; everything seems possible and maybe even easier than it is. 18

FASHION TERROR: What mood or reaction do you want to cause at the viewer of your photos? EVELYN: Any reaction! I don’t like to give too many explanations about my work and influence the viewer in this way. Instead of that I prefer when people create their own story thy can connect themselves with. I want them to see, think and understand my photos but I cannot decide in which direction it will go. FASHION

TERROR:

Your images have a really shocking cause on me. For example, you had this series with naked bodies lieing around. They reminded me on photos of the corps in concentration camps. So, do you want to shock? EVELYN: Of course it is not my main interest to cause a shock. I just think that sometimes it is necessary to use stronger aesthetics to drive attention to important topics. This

visual site is important and helpful but it is not the only thing I care about. I’m trying to include message in every picture for people who are willing and able to see it through the surface. Ecce homo is a project about everyday society behavior but in really raw simplified way, what creates confusion but that is kind of what I want to do. FASHION

Did you ever felt like you had something to change on your aesthetics to earn money with your art? EVELYN: I was told many times to do something but I never really felt that way. Maybe just technical things, using better camera and lenses. FASHION TERROR: You said that Berlin is a place to be. Do you think it still will be one for the artists and cre-

TERROR: 19

atives here in the future? EVELYN: I think I cannot predict this. It depends from the people because that is the think what is creating the city and its atmosphere. Generations of people, also creative people and artist is changing from time to time and it is hard to tell what will be “IN” in few years. I don’t even know if Berlin is something fashionable right now, I don’t know what is fashion-

able at all. I like it because I feel good here, maybe it is not so for everybody. If I try to be objective Berlin is really liberal city with huge artistic scene and good prices. It means a lot of possibilities but also a lot of competition. It is a place for people who are willing to fight for their dreams and goals. FASHION

TERROR:

think about the berin creative scene? EVELYN: From what I know until now I love it and almost feel to be a part of it. People around us, who became not only our coworkers but also friends really took us into their world and believed in our abilities from the beginning. After 3 mounts in Berlin we got to know so many peo-

Could you imagine living and working in another city? EVELYN: Yes, even now I’m living in Bratislava and studying in Vienna, while working in Prague and Berlin. And everything in the same time. I want to work everywhere, world is too big to stay at one place! FASHION TERROR: What do you

20

ple that I can hardly believe it. People are really enthusiastic and willing to help, to collaborate and to recommend you further. Everything happened so fast that I almost cannot tell how. We started few projects with Berlin artists and designers and now we are still in touch planning new things!

FASHION TERROR: How did it came that you work with Idan and Fanny, the founders of UY? EVELYN: Like everything here in Berlin it was destiny mixed with coincidence. I bumped into Idan at Homopatik and met Fanny few days later. At first I didn’t even know they work together as UY but I think we immediately felt some kind of sympathy for each other, or at least from my site it was so and started work together. Of course quality and tempo of their work also played huge role, their designs and philosophy are really fitting my sense of style and thinking. I’m only hoping for more collaboration in the future (and soon)! FASHION TERROR: OK, last question: What are your dreams, aims and hopes for your future? EVELYN: To create something amazing! To live for my passion and never give up my dreams. Every day I want to be better than yesterday but with new goals for tomorrow. I want to enjoy life fully and always. Now I’m studying, working a lot, fulfilling myself with a lot of knowledge and inspiration, which I need for my ongoing and future projects. ... 21

GLAMOUR TOP10 CHRISTMAS DE S T I NAT I O N S

A smart town doesn’t let the natural presence of reindeer, snowy backdrops, and a location straddling the Arctic Circle go to waste. Take Napapiiri, in Lapland, Finland, a place with conditions prime for holiday revelers and where Christmas fantasies abound. The region boasts two major St. Nick-themed parks: The Santa Claus Village, a popular amusement park which draws families from all over Europe and Santa Park, which is geared more toward children, but features impressive ice sculptures and quaint shops.

While there’s truth to the notion that there’s no place like home for the holidays, there are places to visit at Christmastime, like Napapiiri, that offer a yuletide experience to rival any. We worked with travel experts at Lonely Planet and Frommer’s to compile a list of holiday destinations that celebrate Christmas festivities unlike any other. Some locations, such

as New York, are old Yuletide standbys that are much more impressive in person. The tree at Rockefeller Center is almost certainly the world’s most famous Christmas tree, but it’s only the centerpiece for a city-wide Christmas display. “You can make a pretty strong case that more people care about the lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller 22

Center than the one at the White House,” says Jason Clampet, senior editor at Frommers. “And there’s something about the holiday decorations that makes even locals gawk like tourists,” especially when the snow falls during those lucky years. Nothing beats carriage rides through Central Park, the elaborate department store displays, and strolls through the some of the city’s classic brownstone-lined streets. And it’s not just Manhattan that puts on a show during the holidays. Neighborhoods such as Dyker Heights in Brooklyn and Ozone Park in Queens are famous for their overthe-top Christmas decoration competitions. Some destinations are more unexpected, but upon closer inspection have unique Christmas traditions in ways you might never have considered. It’s further from

Santa’s home base and native climate, but Christmas in Puerto Rico gets going early in December, and after the 25th becomes an intense two-week

every table. Shake off old sledding traditions and visit the surfer’s paradise of Rincon while you’re visiting warmer climes. The festivities don’t stop

affair filled with food, family and parties. Visitors should expect an offering of coquito, a rum and coconut-based drink that is similar to eggnog, – delicious and dangerous, depending on the family bartender. Stay in Old San Juan and make sure to enjoy the seasonal Puerto Rican holiday food, such as the meat and spicefilled pastries known as pasteles, or pernil, a seasoned, baked pork shoulder that’s on almost 23

until January 6, Three Kings Day, where Puerto Rican families get together for one last Christmas party.

Want more of an oldschool approach to your holiday pursuits? Book a ticket to Amsterdam, the country where Santa Claus himself was born. The Dutch Christmas celebration is a bifurcated affair, with Sinterklaas arriving on December 5 to bring all of the good children gifts

from the city’s canals (and take the bad kids away to Spain), creating a magnificent and Christmas being mirroring effect–that celebrated on the is, unless you’ve hit 25th, a time reserved one of those lucky for family and close Christmases when the friends. No matter temperature drops what time you arrive, enough to turn the you’ll be greeted by canals to ice. a city that positively twinkles with white “Everyone hop[es] lights everywhere you the canals will freeze look, with reflections over,” says Tom Hall,

a London-based travel editor for Lonely Planet. “If they freeze over early enough, they have this massive ice-skating event, where everyone gets out onto the canals to skate around.” Not exactly a Christmas miracle, but definitely a sight to behold.

In another bowl beat the butter until it's soft and creamy then add the sieved icing sugar and beat again until the mixture is light and fluffy. 15. Gently add in the vanilla and melted chocolate and stir together until it is glossy and smooth. 16. Cut the cupcakes in half horizontally and heap cherry compote onto the bottom half allowing the syrup to soak into the sponge, then add a spoonful of icing and sandwich the other half of the cake on top. 17. For a final flourish, top with a swirl of icing and a cherry, and then dust with icing sugar. ...
