Baskerville, designed in 1754, is a transitional typeface in-between classical typefaces and the high contrast modern faces.
It is widely known for its crisp edges and it’s elegant high contrast, mathematically designed letters. Its letters are soft with rounded bracketed serifs and a vertical axis.
Baskerville is a book typeface but it can also be a display typeface for it’s generous proportions. John Baskerville, who was a servant in a clergymen’s house was illiterate. The creation of Baskerville, was an inevitable step in the development of printing and typography.
