Strategic Intelligence Group Wednesday 21 November SIG’s Work Programme
Action Required of SIG Agree SIG’s work programme and consider the following recommendations: 1. that a demographic change task and finish group to be established as SIG’s immediate work plan priority (scope will be tabled at the meeting) 2. that SIG develop of a framework of needs assessments to provide an oversight of intelligence products in Sandwell
Work Planning Process In the short to medium term partners are focusing on responding to the challenges of fewer resources, however, it is also important to have regard to the longer term picture to ensure that we have the intelligence we will need. To reflect SIG’s desire to focus on forward-looking intelligence to support future policy-making in Sandwell, a summit was held to help shape SIG’s future work programme. The feedback from the summit included 11 suggested work areas for SIG’s consideration, which have been formulated by the subject leads and facilitators from each of the workshops.

Proposed work programme The majority of work areas raised through the summit can be incorporated in existing pieces of work. Therefore these areas of work do not need to be prioritised by SIG. These details are attached as appendix 1 In addition, it is suggested that SIG continue in its role as having oversight of intelligence in Sandwell and acting as a body that brings partners together. This could for example include SIG-led events focusing on particular policy areas or needs assessments that bring relevant people together. To facilitate this role, it is recommended that a framework of needs assessments be created including the timescales for their refresh to help SIG respond to these. To make best use of limited resources, it is recommended that SIG focus on two initial pieces of work that can achieve results quickly and are a priority. 1. a demographic change task and finish group 2. the production of a framework of needs assessments A suggested scope for the demographic change task and finish group will be circulated at the SIG meeting on 21/11/12. Appendix 1 Work areas suggested by the Policy and Intelligence Summit Workshop Social cohesion, role of the citizen, and communities
