Pentagon Volleyball Invitational

Page 1

Welcome to the Sanford Sports Complex!

Last year, we promised a lineup of games, programs and experiences that would be one for the books. It was certainly a promise fulfilled.

Hoops was huge at the Complex last season, featuring electric NCAA Division I matchups, NSIC tourneys, a second dose of South Dakota Class AA high school state tournament action and, of course, professionalgrade NBA G League basketball, featuring our local powerhouse Sioux Falls Skyforce – entering their 11th season with us at the Pentagon. Division I wrestling and volleyball also took center court along with thousands of talented youth and high school athletes proudly representing their states, schools and traveling teams.

The Crossing and Diamonds outdoor fields continued to host training, leagues and tournaments in baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. The fans and crowds that followed were able to stay well-rested and well-caffeinated with the 2023 grand openings of Comfort Inn & Suites – Sanford Sports Complex and Scooter’s Coffee.

With that kind of energy behind us, who knows what’s in store for 2024-2025? Well, we do – and it’s going to be incredible.

Collegiate basketball is so back, and we’re excited to host a lot of big names, including the men’s and women’s teams representing the Iowa Hawkeyes and Nebraska Cornhuskers, not to mention the Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase featuring six of the best programs in the business. The Force will also be returning in full force!

We’re serving up a lineup of volleyball events you won’t want to miss, including multi-team tournaments with DI locals SDSU and Augustana – all leading into the NCAA Division II national championship in December. As far as sports go, that’s just a preview.

And as far as the Sanford Sports Complex goes, that’s just scratching the surface of what’s on the horizon. We’re diversifying the community experience even more with the opening of the leading-edge Sanford Health Virtual Care Center, continued progress on the Dakota State Applied Research Corporation facility and the addition of The Atlas, a multi-family residential development – the first of its kind on our campus – by Lloyd Co.

Don’t forget! Watch for major music and entertainment announcements throughout the year; it’s going to be your ticket to fun in Sioux Falls.

The sheer volume of experiences coming to the Complex this year is too much for one page, so make sure to get all your Sanford Sports news, event and ticket information on sanfordsports.com.

Welcome to the game. Welcome to the show. Welcome to Sanford Sports Complex.

We’re glad you’re here.

THE VERY BEST PLAY HERE

SANFORD PENTAGON

The Pentagon is the cornerstone of the entire Sanford Sports Complex, and the home of state, regional and national sporting events, and the Sanford Sports Academy.

• Six perimeter high school-sized basketball courts.

• Three collegiate and professional-sized practice courts.

• Eleven tournament and fourteen practice volleyball courts

The collegiate and professional-sized Heritage Court is a throwback to the gymnasiums of the 1950s, updated with state-of-the-art scoreboards, executive suites, food and more.

Reminiscent of a time when sports were pure and simple, the Heritage Court will take you through time, and bring you right back to the reminiscent days of basketball.

Adjacent to the Pentagon is the Sanford Fieldhouse. Together these facilities will provide sports-specific development opportunities for athletes from the interscholastic level to the professionals.

Volleyball tryouts

The Sanford Sports Academy is holding tryouts for national, regional and local volleyball teams for the upcoming 2024-25 club season.

Tryouts for players ages 11-14 will be held Oct. 28-30. Tryouts for players ages 15-18 are set for Nov. 24-25. Age is defined by a player's birth date in relation to July 1.

Looking for a way to sharpen skills prior to tryouts? Tryout training camps are a great option. Those will be held on a variety of dates from Oct. 13-Nov. 24. Tryout prep consists of two sessions.

The Sanford Sports Academy is the most comprehensive player development program in the region. Athletes have access to certified athletic trainers, certified strength and conditioning specialists, sports physical therapists and more. The volleyball component is based at the Sanford Pentagon.

YOUR HOME FOR HOOPS HISTORY

Sanford Pentagon is honored to feature the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame

The Sanford Pentagon is the proud home of the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

Displays change regularly – from looking back at a time when more than 300 South Dakota communities rallied around their hometown heroes to celebrating the magical moments of today.

Featuring timeless memorabilia highlighting the state’s hardwood history, display cases are featured in the lobby area just to the right of the Sanford Pentagon Store. Permanently displayed on the second floor are panels with all state public school championship teams from 1912 through 1985 and Catholic school champions from 1937 through 1964.

The South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame is always seeking fresh items of interest.
