Welcome to the Sani Sustainability Report 2016 Sani Resort is a haven of 5 star luxury within a 1.000 acre reserve. Four luxury hotels and a marina are situated within 450 hectares of natural beauty, with the newest addition to the Sani hotel collection and with the fifth and newest addition to the Sani hotel collection being Sani Dunes, opening in June 2017. In this land blessed by nature, the company considers it its duty to offer an unparalleled holiday experience to its guests, while protecting this unique ecological sanctuary and the people living within and around it. The comprehensive sustainability programme at Sani is called Sani Green and it encompasses the sustainability principles which are at the heart of the company’s vision and day to day operations. Sani Green is made up of three pillars: (a) sustainable hotel operations, (b) protection and enhancement of local biodiversity, and (c) local community support and human capital development. Our programme is certified with leading environmental certification programmes ISO 14001, Travelife GOLD, Green Key and the Blue Flag. In 2016 the company strived to further expand on many sustainability initiatives under the Sani Green umbrella and improve further upon environmental indicators, particularly in the areas of water, waste, single plastic use reduction and chemical waste management. Guest participation in the company’s sustainability programmes continued to grow exponentially. This year, the Sani company also increased its outreach to the most vulnerable, further supporting charities, organization and schools in need. We are delighted to guide you through our results in these areas in this sustainability report.

Energy and Carbon Management The focus on reducing the company’s contribution to climate change is expressed through energy use KPIs monitored carefully across the resort. In new projects, such as the Sani Dunes hotel that began construction in 2016, utmost care has been given to design it with key sustainability features and state of the art technology to minimise the hotel’s carbon footprint.

Sustainable Procurement & supplier assessment The company community policy is to support local suppliers, highlight local produce, as well as reduce waste and chemical use. Sani evaluates all suppliers also on the basis of sustainability criteria focusing on quality, proximity, environmental protection and business ethics, as set out in the sustainability procurement policy.

Sani Green: An Integral Part of the Guest Experience
Sani Resort places great emphasis in getting guests to be a part of the sustainability experience. Be it from choosing local produce on the menus or attending complimentary eco trips, there is a vast array of experiences to be a part of. The Sani Wetlands book is placed in all rooms, showcasing the Sani Wetlands wildlife, as well as birdwatching routes. Hermes the Black-Winged Stilt, a children’s fairy tale story, is available in selected rooms and for purchase, with proceeds donated to local conservation partners. Complimentary guided nature trips are offered with a resident eco-guide (such as bird-watching, hiking, biking and farm trips). The weekly Sani Eco Day festival, a pop-up event dedicated to the environment and the local community, takes place every Sunday in the summer months. Sani Resort also offers tailor-made kids and teens outdoor eco-educational experiences, called the Sani Adventurer and Explorer programmes.

Local Community Support and Human Capital Development SANI RESORT ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY Sani Resort strives to offer a high standard of holiday services that exceed customer expectations whilst respecting the environment and people. The administration and hotel staff commit to the continuous improvement and sustainable performance of all hotels as part of the Sani S.A. group’s greater sustainability policy. For this purpose, ongoing environmental initiatives are implemented under the umbrella name “Sani Green”, which encompasses every environmental initiative and activity developed by the Sani S.A. group. Furthermore, an environmental management system has been established and is maintained at the hotels in conformance with the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standards. The Sani Resort management team is committed to meeting required legal and environmental requirements and to continuously improving its environmental performance in the following areas: . . . . . . . .
