Athletics & Activities at Molloy High School is a time in a student’s life to prepare for the future and develop into becoming a well-rounded adult. Athletics and activities have a prominent place in a student’s maturation and growth here at Molloy. Extracurriculars provide opportunities for students to learn the value of teamwork, individual and group responsibility, leadership, physical strength, endurance, competition, diversity and a sense of community. All of which are just some of the qualities that students can use when advancing in every aspect of life while at Molloy and beyond. Here at Molloy, there truly is something for everyone, and each student is encouraged to become involved through a wide variety of athletics, activities and programs.

ATHLETIC TEAMS:

ATHLETICS

Each sport at Molloy has a storied tradition and championship history. Molloy boasts a very talented and dedicated coaching staff across the board in all sports. Alumni and former collegiate and professional athletes take on significant roles in guiding our energetic young Stanner athletes throughout the year. Molloy offers a total of 44 team sports for both boys and girls, 17 at the varsity level. Our athletes are taught to be champions both on and off the field as displayed by the volunteer opportunities and experiences that are arranged for by our teams during the year. Each summer some members of the boys and girls Track and Field Teams are invited to attend a Molloy track camp in Vermont run by our own track coaches. Our Intramural Sports Program is open to all students and offers participation in after school sports. Molloy student athletes have access to numerous facilities on campus that allow for them to practice and perform at the highest levels. Molloy’s Jack Curran Gymnasium has a rich history and has hosted some of the CHSAA’s greatest players and games. In 2001, a second gymnasium was added, as well as renovations to both the boys and girls the locker rooms. In addition to the two gymnasiums, Molloy is also home to Stanner Field which is the school’s baseball field that is located on campus. Also included on campus is an all-weather track and a weight room making Molloy a great venue for our athletic teams to practice and compete.

ACTIVITIES

There are over 60 clubs and extracurricular activities that students can be involved in while at Molloy and this is a number that is sure to increase as new interests develop each school year. Through these clubs students can devote themselves to further exploration in certain areas such as math and science, diplomacy and law, as well as a host of arts activities such as the Dance Club, String Ensemble and the highly acclaimed Stanner Players theatre group, just to name a few. Our theater and music groups perform in the modern DiChiaro Theater. Since 2008, the school newspaper, The Stanner, has been awarded The Tablet’s General Excellence Award seven times.

THE SCIENCE RESEARCH PROGRAM

The newly designed Science Research Program is for highly motivated students who have a strong interest in the sciences. The program is a three-year sequence in which students are given the opportunity to identify a scientific field that interests them, cultivate a relationship with a mentor scientist, gain valuable research skills, design an experiment around an original research question, and present their findings at various competitions, including INTEL, Siemens and more.
