01 REMINISCENCE OF THE LOST RIVER REVITALIZATION OF RIVERFRONT OF SARASWATI. Design Dissertation - Riverfront Development Siddhpur, 2020 Mentor : Ar. Suneeta Samant

Architecture should be able to tell stories, stories about the history of a place , events occured at a specific time or merely about the people. But what if the memory of the place is fading away? Siddhpur is an ancient town in Patan district located on the banks of Holy Saraswati river. But currently there is no physical presence of this river. The challenge was to connect the people back to its river and preserve the cultural identity of the place by redevloping the riverfront of Siddhpur.

6

The river-front of Siddhpur acts like a medium that can connect people to its river and thus enhancing the riverfront activities and partially reviving the river can hopefully bring back the cultural glory of the town.

As a part of Study we visited 10 institutes in Ahmedabad and studied various parameters of the structures based on Light, Quality Of Spaces, Movement, Axis, Facades, Services, etc. We also studied how various spaces function and how we can inherit these qualities into our designs. The challenge was to design an institution for Arts, Design and Communication while creating interractive spaces to create a interractive space and create communication among the three courses. The concept was to create buffer spaces leading to main spaces and to respond to the context of the area.

04 A PLACE FOR PEOPLE ART AND CULTURAL CENTRE Nashik, Semester 5, 2017

Panchavati in Nashik is best known for being one of Hindu pilgrimage sites, through which flows the holy river Ganga. Right from prayers for new borns to death rituals, the kunds of panchavati witness various emotions through out the day. In such a culturally rich place we had to design what was missing in the place. Panchavati was losing the importance of its local art and hence it was necessary to bring about awarness and interest of people in preserving it by designing a art and cultural center having workshops , exhibition, canteen and retail shops spaces. The basic concept was to recreate a mini Panchavati by using the dominating elements of Panchavati. Heres a link to a video that we made as a group to understand the sense of sound of the place : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6fq8nLSXy8

Bamboo workshop, Alibaug Group Work 2017

During the workshop we were taught various types of knots to tie the bamboos together. The exercise was to create something for a beachside resortwhich perople could use. We ended up creating a hexadome, a group sitting place with a bonfire at the center. The dome was made using bamboos and coconut tree leaves and for seating we used broken swings, waste tyres and a few benches that were available on the resort.
