San Jacinto College softball student-athletes are committed to giving back to their community. From participating in summer camps for young players, donating to charity, or collecting supplies for the victims of Hurricane Laura, student-athletes understand the impact they have on their community goes beyond the diamond.
Toys for Tots Donation
The team collected board games, dolls, and other toys to donate to the local Toys for Tots program. Toys for Tots assists the U.S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas by collecting new unwrapped toys and distributing those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.
Hurricane Laura Relief Donation
In the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, the Coyotes banded together to collect water, hygiene products, gas cans, plastic utensils, and non-perishable food items for their counterparts at the McNeese State University softball team.
Summer Softball Camp
Coach Kelly Saenz and assistant coach Kelsey Walters work with the younger athletes each year to develop their softball skills. While it is hot in the Texas summer, the indoor practice facility allows for some relief and time to hone their game play. For the campers ages six to nine years old, Coach Saenz focuses on the fun of the game while they are learning fundamentals. Coach Walters works with the older athletes ages ten to 12 on hitting, bunting, and different playing styles.
