Cena Luna radiates class and style on Stockton’s Miracle Mile

BY MEGAN MEINTASIS

Nothing about the Miracle Mile’s newest home goods store is an accident. Carefully curated, even the name hones in perfectly on the space—an airy housewares store with an eclectic collection of goods. Cena, pronounced

“Se·na”, means: “table” or “significant meal,” and Luna has ties to femininity and women. “My mom instilled in me the art of setting the table and making a meal as an act of love. She’s incredibly talented and showed me how special that is,” says Owner Lauren Tarullo. “The name is about women sharing ceremonial meals with the people they love. It’s an homage to my mom.” Originally, Lauren pursued art school to feed her inner creativity and possibly become an interior designer one day. This led to jobs working in

retail and visual merchandising at Anthropologie, Bloomingdales, and West Elm. She then went on to graduate school to study art education with new dreams of teaching in a museum. Instead, she became interested in exhibition design and how to create visually inspiring spaces.

In February 2020, Lauren and her husband made the move back to Stockton. She was in the process of interviewing with the Haggin Museum when COVID-19 hit and she needed another path. “I had always thought about opening a housewares shop, but it never seemed realistic. We started talking about what it would take for us to be able to do that, and when we found the perfect location on the Miracle Mile, we knew we had to jump on it,” says Lauren. For Lauren the shop fills both her desire to construct beautiful spaces and satisfies her deep love for community, which she says comes from her parents. “My dad is an administrator for St. Joseph’s and my mom worked at St. Mary’s,” she says. “They both have always been active in the community and are Stocktonians for life.” “The shop is meant to be playful,” says Lauren. “It doesn’t take itself too seriously.” Inside you’ll find a variety of gifting options including specialty food and pantry provisions, apothecary and candles, ceramics and table linens, and much more. “I wanted 70% of the store to be small batch, with as many women brand owners as possible. I really wanted to be thoughtful about where it all comes from.”
