FED MIXES UP STUNNING WHISKEY-BASED COCKTAILS

When it comes to the cocktails at FED, bartenders aren’t skimping. The selection of craft beverages stands up to those of any highend dining establishment, even though things are a bit more laid back at FED than your big city steakhouse. In a comfortable setting, however, we still like to enjoy a boujee drink, and the menu here gives a lot of opportunity to try something new and delicious. We’re focused on the whiskey options specifically, dark and boozy sippers perfected for a night out on the town. Here are three signature options gracing the menu.

THE DEFENDANT This bourbon-based drink offers a lighter taste than the old fashion above. Started with a Basil Hayden bourbon (hailing from Kentucky), bartenders add lemon juice, simple syrup, and soda to create a refreshing taste. Added fresh basil and blackberry give the cocktail some fruitier qualities that many will appreciate, especially as we head into spring.

SMOKE SHOW OLD FASHIONED There’s little we love more than a classic old fashioned with a twist, and that’s exactly what this smoky cocktail offers. Perfect to pair with a medium-rare steak or big, juicy burger, the decadent old fashioned starts with a signature bourbon blend before sugar, bitters, and luxardo cherry are added. So far, it sounds like the usual, but the remix comes from the wood chip smoke used to give the drink a more novel flavor profile. Staying with tradition, it’s finished with an orange twist, torch toasted for added zest.

GOOD CALL The name says it all—if you like a whiskey-based beverage, this one is a good call. The cocktail uses Jameson as its base, then the flavor profile gets complex. Orgeat syrup (an almond- and sugarbased mixer) and orange juice provide one element of taste while fresh mint gives another. A dose of Fever Tree ginger beer provides the cocktail its final quality and texture, lightening up the other ingredients before its finished with an orange garnish.
