Laser Surgery to Treat Cataract Treatment of cataract has become more simpler and pain free with the advent of a new bladeless robotic laser technology in India. Cataract is an eye defect where the lens clouds your eye and hampers vision. The cataract laser surgery received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010 and gives better results in terms of quality of vision and surgical precision than traditional form of surgery.

The traditional technique involved making incision in the cornea through a hand held blade which used to break cataract into pieces and then those pieces were sucked out of the eye and an artificial lens was placed manually. The cataract laser surgery is purely a machine assisted and more precise form of procedure. Unfortunately the cost of catract laser surgery is pretty high which deprives the poor section of the society majority of whom are cataract patients in India from leveraging its benefits. However, with the advancement in technology, the prices are expected to go down in coming years. In this procedure high intensity rays are focused on the lens to break the cataract into pieces. An incision is made in the cornea using machine-generated vapors that can be self-sealed. In cataract laser surgery no blade is used so there is no loss of blood, the risk of infection is high and recovery is much quicker. As the robot is used for placing the lens, the quality of vision is much improved.
