What are “Post Harvest Losses”?

Of all the crops harvested worldwide up to 39% spoil by rot and mold during transport and storage before they reach the con- sumer. This loss can be summarized under "Post Harvest Loss".

Emergence of Post Harvest Losses

Post Harvest Losses are mainly caused by microorganisms, more rarely by rodents and insects. Good hygiene and control of mi- crobiology growth are the key to success and reduce losses.

Sanosil Super 25 to prevent of Post Harvest Losses: Product Brief Introduction Sanosil Super 25 is a disinfectant concentrate approved for drinking water treatment.  The active substance used is hydrogen peroxide, an environment friendly substance. In a complex manufacturing procedure, the active substance is stabilized and catalytically boosted, thus achieving a greatly improved effec-tiveness against microorganisms.  Due to the excellent effectiveness of the product against pathogenic bac-teria, viruses, yeast, fungi, protozoa, etc. the same product can be used for all these applications  The product can be used in water as well as in the air (aerosol) and on surfaces.  Sanosil Super 25 is ecological. The main component, hydrogen peroxide, does not pollute wastewater, breaking down into water and oxygen (H2O and O2) only. Therefore, no noxious byproducts.  Sanosil Super 25 is particularly effective in minimizing a new contamination of the treated water with bacteria and fungi.  Sanosil Super 25 leaves practically no residues.

Application in washing processes Where:

Direct addition by dosing pump into the fresh water 50 -100 ml Sanosil Super 25 / 1000l fresh water Super 25 increases the effectiveness of a UV system considerably (even in not very clear water) and is therefore very well suited for combined use.

Special

Before crops are packed, they are often washed to remove dust and dirt. Unfortunately, high concentrations of germs are found in the wash water due to the dissolved dirt. This means that the visible dirt is washed off, but all crops are contaminated with microorganisms.

By adding Sanosil Super 25 to the wash water, a germ reduction and thus a longer shelf life can be achieved. For cut salad and 50 ml Super 25/1000l water, the additional shelf life is e.g. 2-4 days. The addition is easily done with the help of a metering pump directly into the wash water. For each m3 of water, a dosage of 50100 ml of Sanosil Super 25 is usually chosen. The content of Sanosil Super 25 can easily be monitored with Sanopstrips 200. Wichtig: Allfällig vorhandene UV-Entkeimungsanlagen ergänzen die Wirkung von Sanosil Super 25 und kännen hervorragend parallel betrieben werden.

Application 2: On Surfaces Where:

Pre-cleaned implements, conveyor belts, cold storage rooms ...

How: Dosage: Special

Direct spraying of the cleaned surfaces, if necessary wiping. 3 % solution, 30-60 ml / m2 Consume dilute solution immediately (within some days)

Applications: Surface disinfection (without cold fogger) 1. Thoroughly clean the surface to be treated with a suitable cleaner. 2. Moisten a microfibre cloth/cleaning rag with 3% Sanosil Super 25 solution. 3. Wet the surface to be disinfected with the cloth and leave a moist film. Objects without smooth surfaces or absorbent materials can also be sprayed directly. 4. Let the disinfectant dry. Rinsing with water is not necessary.

Surface disinfection using a sprayer - spray mist device 1. Clean the surfaces to be treated thoroughly with a suitable cleaning agent. 2. Fill the storage tank of a sprayer (e.g. Sanosil EasyFog, accumulator sprayer with compressed air connector etc.) with the required amount of 3% Sanosil Super 25 solution 3. Choose a fine atomisation and spray the surfaces to be disinfected so as to produce a continuously wet surface. Please note: The finer the droplets, the better the wetting. 4. If necessary, wear a protective mask to prevent irritation of the respiratory tract when carrying out larger disinfection operations (in particular if a certain aerosol formation cannot be avoided).

Application 3: direct treatment of crops Where:

Background: To avoid losses by rot and mold, in practice, a dip with effective, but health and environmental concern chemicals such as naphthalene-acetic acid (NAA) or Cloramizol is applied. However, these products are strongly suspected of being carcinogenic and polluting the environment. The use of Sanosil Super 25 represents an alternative to these products with a much more environmentally friendly profile. A brief immersion in a Sanosil Super 25 solution or spraying will greatly reduce the mold spores and bacteria on the surfaces. Just dip the crops for 30 -60 seconds in a 0.25 -0.5 % Sanosil Super 25 solution, let the crops dry and pack it.
