Founded in 1909, Santa Barbara City College is one of the premier community colleges in the nation. This ranking was validated by the college co-winning the prestigious Aspen Institute Prize for Community College Excellence in 2013. SBCC was recognized for its quality and focus in four areas: facilitating underrepresented and minority student success, student learning outcomes, degree completion and transfer rates, and labor market success in securing good jobs after college.
Located on 74-acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, SBCC serves nearly 14,000 credit students and 4,500 noncredit students annually. The college offers strong academic programs and innovative and award-winning student success initiatives, a robust transfer program, and a rich career technical program reflective of the local business community's input and workforce needs.
