Carolina Starin started freelance writing for the Santa Barbara Independent in 2015 after covering food and culture in Russia and working as a television news writer and producer for CNN in New York. A Montana native, she has lived and worked in Russia, the Netherlands, Mali, and the Central African Republic, and she holds a master’s degree from Columbia University. Her favorite assignments are the ones where she is able to weave one of her three kids into the storyline.
