ARTsmart’s Edible Art Tour You can map it out or just show up. You can go solo or meet with friends. You can dress up or down. BUT wear walking shoes and set your intention to de-stress, discover, and indulge! Friday, June 9, Downtown, 5 to 8 pm Saturday, June 10, Canyon Road, 5 to 8 pm The 20th Annual Edible Art Tour (EAT) is a weekend to remember. The two-night block party brings together the best restaurants and caterers and the newest art in Santa Fe’s top galleries. Diversity is the theme. You’ll sample everything from home-style to haute cuisine, representational to abstract, vintage to avant garde, and signature entrées to delectable desserts. Each night more than a dozen gallery-and-restaurant teams showcase both visual and culinary art. And it’s a deal at $35 per person for the two nights: Friday in the Downtown and Saturday along Canyon Road (details on pages 4–5, EAT Santa Fe). On Friday night, show up at 5 pm at Joe Wade Fine Art for a proclamation delivered by Mayor Javier Gonzales. You’ll need your EAT button to get in and receive a free EAT Santa Fe poster created by Cynde Roof (limited to the first 500). BUT WAIT! There’s also a Thursday, June 8th event. You’ll have the unique opportunity to meet Peter Altmann and learn the story behind the recovery of a family portrait painted by Gustav Klimt and chronicled in the movie Woman in Gold (details and tickets on page 6, EAT Santa Fe). Your attendance is an act of giving as well as getting. All ticket purchases benefit ARTsmart New Mexico, a 501c3 nonprofit that provides arts programming for the youth of Northern New Mexico. ARTsmart teachers provide hands-on opportunities for children to explore, experience, and engage in a variety of artistic media, including our Summer ARTcamps (details on page 7, EAT Santa Fe). Detail from Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer 1 by Gustav Klimt

SPECIAL INSERT

Behind the Woman in Gold In this exclusive New Mexico appearance, Peter Altmann reveals the details of a famed family portrait lost and found. Thursday, June 8, 5 to 9 pm, The Lensic In the dark days preceding World War II, Adolph Hitler sent out his minions to plunder the most valuable belongings of Europe’s Jews. Gustav Klimt’s portrait of Adele BlochBauer (1907) was taken from the Bloch-Bauer family and then held hostage by the Belvedere Museum in Vienna for six decades. Learn the real story about how this “Austrian Mona Lisa” found its way to the Neue Galerie in New York City. The evening begins with a 5 pm VIP reception with Peter Altmann, son of Maria Altmann (née Bloch-Bauer), who reclaimed her aunt’s portrait with the help of lawyer E. Randol Schoenberg. You’ll enjoy hors d’oeuvres and libations, gilded chocolates crafted by Cacao Santa Fe, and photo-ops with a living tableau of the gloriously gilded painting modeled by Maribou Latour. Peter’s entertaining talk follows, with ample time for questions. Then you’ll be able to compare reality with the Hollywood version of the legal battles in the 2015 film Woman in Gold. Helen Mirren gives an award-nominated performance as Peter’s mother Maria and Ryan Reynolds plays Schoenberg. TICKETS: Lensic Box Office, 211 W. San Francisco St., 505.988.1234. $75 for the 5 pm VIP reception including preferred seating for the talk/film. $35 for the talk/film starting at 6 pm.
