All Aboard the LSMV Business and Economics Train!
Our business and economics team is humbled by all the support to make this day’s event a success. We prepared one month for this proverbial one-day train ride that spawned workshops with experiential wisdom, leadership tips, and replete with anecdotes of the past two covid years that generated creative pressure-cooker industry adaptations and roller-coasterlike emotional industry rides. The moral of today’s story assuredly involved: “Adapt! Adapt! Adapt!”; “Be Charismatic, Make Others Feel Important.”; “Keep Swimming!”.
Our first stop was with Chuck Winkles at New Life Enterprises where he shared his journey and treasured books on exemplary leadership and communication. Dr. David Lohman (Toastmasters DTM) “Cracking the Charisma Code” covered focus theory, Reticular Activation Systems, micro expressions, and leadership traits. We learned to incorporate common denominators to become charismatic leaders, i.e., how to carry ourselves, our posture, gestures, communication methodology. To paraphrase the poignant quote and reminder from one famous lady romantically dating two 20th century charismatic leaders, “With [PARTNER A] I left the date feeling he was the most important charismatic person in the world and I was enthralled to learn about him. After [PARTNER B], I left the date feeling I was the most important person in the world.”
With Suzanne Singh and Dana Eady, we discussed more of the macro yet intricate processes to attract outside businesses to our community while advocating for conducive policy towards calculated growth – all in the Downtown Revitalization and General Plan Updates for our fair city.
Then more micro level was Jay of Hardy Diagnostics regaling us with his uniquely successful business model where empowered employees gain company ownership with a mere 6 months of employment and no capital contributions. Jay shared their covid products evolution to meet new and growing demands!
Our train stopped with a business mix of panelists hailing from the Fast-Food Industry (Chick-Fil-A’s Joseph Hickox), Inventions/ Manufacturing (Mob Armor’s Trevor Orrick), Automotive (Toyota/Honda’s Pat Cusack), Connect Accounting’s Jazmin Cortez. Toyota/ Honda’s auto and building construction team with Jake Weintraub, David Leroy and Fabian Zaragoza shared community tax contributions, modeling steps leading towards growth, and pursuit of professional development.
To close, our LSMV 2021 Legacy Raffle Drawing took place (courtesy of VTC raffle drum) helping us celebrate our winner. Eventually, our LSMV class received the incredible news that we met our funding goal success for this year’s Legacy Iconic Wall Art. More information is forthcoming. What a train ride!
