ON THE COVER Marilyn Dover Benson is British-born and educated and now resides on the central coast of California. A self-taught artist, she commenced painting in 1998. In 2001, she became president of the 9-member “Brush & Palette Art Group”. This organization has been successfully promoting their paintings on the Central Coast for the past 9 years. Since that time, she's sold countless paintings to people in England, South Africa, Germany and many parts of the United Sates, as well as creating a huge wall mural at the Santa Maria Discovery Museum and the Santa Maria Museum of Natural History.

The artists express water and whimsy as a precious commodity, a source of life and where play happens. Whether it is a painting of a fishbowl or an ocean scene, the show portrays the two artist’s individual and diverse styles of painting water and humor in vibrant and translucent colors.
Art Without Borders Exhibit Jay Johnson, Adamson Cottage
The Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe • 2870 Grand Ave, Los Olivos Laurel Sherrie: Call of the Wild, Paintings of California Wild Places Through Januray 5, 2017
A new show of art is on view and at the Los Olivos Café from November 3rd through January 5. The work is an engaging viewing experience, and the pieces are available for purchase by art loving collectors who may wish to acquire an inspiring painting. Laurel Sherrie paints landscapes of treasured places, sharing her passion for rural, coastal and wild areas of the Central Coast of California. Her work is known for rich color using traditional oils and lots of paint. She loves painting on location (plein air) in the quest for perfect light, and because it is a swift facilitator of the Muse, with the aim of capturing life as it exists at that very moment. A broad range of her work can be seen on her website: www. laurelsherrie.com Laurel Sherrie paints landscapes of treasured places, sharing her passion for rural, coastal and wild areas of the Central Coast of California. Her work is known for rich color using traditional oils and lots of paint. She loves painting on location (plein air) in the quest for perfect light, and because it is a swift facilitator of the Muse, with the aim of capturing life as it exists at that very moment. Laurel grew up near farmland and woods in a small suburb of Chicago. She’s been creating art all her life and was an art major in college. She traveled a lot, eventually putting down roots in rural Arroyo Grande, CA, which she and her husband share with a menagerie of birds, dogs, chickens and goats. “Fostering passion for and inspiring people to preserve our treasured rural and wild areas is one of my top goals for painting. I love these places and want to share my passion and vision, which I do best with oils on canvas.” Laurel forwards these goals as an active member of S.L.O.P.E. (San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment), who use their art to draw public attention and generate funds for preserving local lands.
