I am an architect from South America with work experience in my home country, Argentina, in the United States and recently in Denmark, the place where I am currently living. I am really interested in the labor done at BIG and think that I could really fit in the work dynamics of the office. furthermore, I think that my inclusion can be useful to the international business model that the office has, opening up the argentinean market through my interest in constantly generating new work opportunities. I would do what I did at White Arkitekter and pitch possible clients in argentina to collaborate with the office. since BIG is an office that generates interest, the possibilities for work will appear easily, having clients interested in a collaboration. my work tries to tackle the lack of identity that architecture has been suffering since modernism. the response to this problem is addressing the local vernacular, understanding the context, understanding the people and understanding the history, before moving forward with an idea. this is then the starting point for any of my work, which is the common ground that I feel it has with your office. careful and informed design is what made BIG one of the greatest offices of contemporary times and the reason I believe that I could support and be a part of it.

in Denmark I have worked at White Arkitekter, being part of two competitions, one project and one research project. one of the two competitions obtained first prize over +80 entries. the project I worked in, I initiated it myself by pitching a government institution in argentina. then this project was funded through my application to the white research lab program in which I received +80.000 SEK of funding. my investigation was named ‘Pop-Up infrastructure’ and resulted in a project for a sustainable mobility program. in United States I worked at Independent Architecture, being involved in the Paco Sanchez Park project and the publication of the office’s monograph. in Argentina, I worked at Sancape Construcciones SRL, office in which I executed construction documents as well as did construction management. I’m writing to recommend Santiago Carlos Peña Fiorda for a position in your office. I met Santiago at the Di Tella in Buenos Aires when I was travelling to theach there. he worked at my office the following year. Santiago is amazing. he worked with us on unbuilt design proposals, buildings, and a book, and was skilled at everything that we need him to do. if you ask him to make a few iterations of something-a plan, a stair, or a page layout-he’ll have several hundred options for you within a couple of hours. and good ones too. yet his mind is flexible. in school, he has learned rigor, but he is willing and able to leave the system behind when he sees an opening for something better. on top of that, he is one of the happiest and funniest people who I’ve had the pleasure to work with. he really enjoys architecture. I’m very sure that he’ll fit in well if you have a spot for him. if you have any questions or want more information, please let me know. all the best, Paul Andersen 2231 Larimer Street 303.433.5303 Denver, CO802005 independentarchitecture.com

white arkitekter

research informed work

denmark . professional experience

since White has a Research Lab, I assembled a proposal and got funding of +80.000 SEK to develop an investigation named ‘Pop-Up Infrastructure’. the research was then used for a consultation job related to a governmental institution in Argentina which I pitched and linked with White to start a collaboration. this resulted in a sustainable mobility project, in which the research knowledge generated informed an served as guidelines to develop the final work delivered. I also worked on a project that had to resolve activation of a forgotten area of a city.

my role on the competition involved research about the local architecture as well as the historic context. afterwards, I was assigned with the design of the bridge that would connect a high transit metro station in the plaza with the historic part of the city. since this bridge was the symbol for connectivity, its position and place had to be carefully thought and evaluated. this is why I chose to break it down into variables and generate a grasshopper script to test for alternatives for the bridges length, rotation, starting point, width, etc. to choose the best possible solution.

independent architecture

tangential approach towards architecture

united states of america . professional experience

I chose Independent Architecture because of their tangential approach towards architecture, in which theory related to the curve culture had a great implication at the office. Paul is a Fulbright Specialist in Architecture and a great mentor towards my formation as an architect. at the studio, at first, I was in charge of making several iterations on different park and playground games which would be tested in the park project. since the project (Paco Sanchez Park) was in full deployment, I also helped editing some of the plans as well as giving them color. afterwards, I worked on the

edition of different plans and elevations for a housing project which consisted in a small addition to a suburban home. at last, my responsibility was in generating the studios book which required me to present several alternative templates to the director. I had to edit, curate and compile the studios work into four different books in relation to the topics that are dogmas at the studio. these topics were scale, loops, dissemination and bumps. the internship complied with my objective of working at a small and very particular firm in which architecture is conceived in a in a non traditional way.

link cabin

boolean as social space

first prize . international competition

building in nature is a paradox. how can we experience the Latvian coastline without having a negative impact on the local environment? the project introduces a series of wooden moles, structural piers used as breakwaters, to connect the coast to the interior terrains of the Latvian landscape. by creating a network of narrow passages leading to the trekking cabins within the forest, link pursues an alternative mode of conservatism - creating low impact architectural interventions within the native ecologies of the site. through the use of pre-defined paths within the wilderness, there is no disruption of the

environment of the site. the cabin itself is a contemporary re-appropriation of Latvian vernacular architecture. while the exterior figure of the cabin mimics the archetypical form of the primitive hut, the interior spaces of the cabin subvert this initial reading. the cabin is derived from a morphology that enacts both collective and individual modes of inhabitation. the center of the cabin is in fact a voided exterior space, a booleaned cylindrical hearth that carves out the interior of the proposal. this circular outdoor space is surrounded and sheltered by four interior rooms, one at each corner, allowing for private space.

square one

necessity of leaving the bed does not exist

third prize . international competition

square one raises the idea of refunding hotels from each bed to the generality. understanding this means understanding that there is no general container for a hotel, but each room is different, because each user and their experience is. the squared form of the bed deploys programs around it. centered in the middle of the room, and due to its shape, it presents various possibilities. it goes from the chance of getting out of the bed from the four corners to the idea of adapting for the usage of the individual, for example, by the moving backrests, which face perpendicular in one side to the TV and

the other to the rooms view. adjacent to the bed the nightstands can be found. there is room for computers, the tablet proposed for the hotel room from which you can order room service and change door status. also, in this night stands, you can find the minibar. this is generated for the comfort of the user, so that the necessity of living the bed does not exist. the idea of the bed as a central element is rooted strongly in the project, and is reinforced by modulating entire room from it. proceeding from the particular to the general. it starts from square one and finishes at the whole.

meta sidewalk

tense relations between programs

fourth year. academic work

research was based in studying the behavior of concrete to obtain innovative geometric systems of work. the project works as the systematic translation of geometries which creates tense relations between existing programs. prototype iterations were generated and tested to find how variables relate to the site and how by increasing the connections, the project could become be more or less dense. this tensions are executed in the by the creation of elevated pathways in which the user can circulate. this urban infrastructure allows the non-motorized to transit without interruptions. the nodes are located were the existing

infrastructures are and is where the denser mass of people can be found. at the mid-point between this connections, the project decompresses, circulation expanding outwards and generating recreational areas, such as football fields and parks. differentiated pathways act as a response towards separate and individual types of movement, going from bikes to shoppers and exploding the sidewalk into several lanes and creating tailored circulations depending on the user. the project is a response to the lack of specificity in non-motorized pathways and how dynamic hyper-connected urban nodes can be generated.
