Classics II: Copland, Dukas & Berlioz The Classics series continues with Copland, Dukas and Berlioz. The Stockton Symphony brings a world of fantasy to life, from the hoe-down spirit of Copland’s Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo to The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Dukas, to the great love story by Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique. “This knockout program showcases our Stockton Symphony in a big way,” quips Maestro Jaffe, “the music is larger than life.”

Classics III: A Midsummer Night’s Dream Nicolasa Kuster, bassoon Cast from University of the Pacific, Women’s Chorus and dancers The third performance in the Classical Series is A Midsummer Night’s Dream, featuring Nicolasa Kuster, bassoon plus a cast from University of the Pacific, Women’s Chorus and dancers joining the Stockton Symphony—nearly 100 performers in all. It promises to be a lively performance, as semistaged excerpts from Shakespeare’s play join Mendelssohn’s remarkable
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, op. 21 & 61 in an evening of drama and wit. Also on the program is Peter Schickele’s Bassoon Concerto; of the featured soloist the Wichita Eagle notes Nicolasa Kuster is “a delight to hear. Her cadenzas were breathtaking, both for the beauty of her playing and the wit and wisdom of her use of silence between phrases.”

Classics IV Mozart, Beethoven & Tracy Silverman Tracy Silverman, Electric Violin The fourth installment in the Classics series is entitled Mozart, Beethoven and Tracy Silverman. A program of heroic music welcomes Tracy Silverman– “the greatest living exponent of the electric violin” (BBC)—back to Stockton. The program includes Mozart: Eine kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525; the California premiere of Nico Muhly: Seeing is Believing (California premiere); Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, op. 55 (Eroica). Silverman has been the subject of several major orchestral commissions composed specifically for and with Tracy, including Pulitzer winner John Adams’ “The Dharma at Big Sur”, premiered with the LA Philharmonic at the gala opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall
in 2003 and recorded with the BBC Symphony on Nonesuch Records with Adams conducting. Formerly first violinist with the innovative Turtle Island String Quartet, Silverman was named one of 100 distinguished alumni by The Juilliard School.

Classics V Pines of Rome, Grieg & Jon Nakamatsu The Classical series concludes with Pines of Rome, Grieg and Jon Nakamatsu. The magnificent Pines of Rome and Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Nakamatsu—a Stockton favorite and a fabulous pianist—appear in one brilliant concert. The program includes Tchaikovsky: Marche slave, op. 31; Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor, op. 16; Respighi: Pines of Rome. A native of California, Mr. Nakamatsu came to international attention in 1997 when he was named Gold Medalist of the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, the only American to have achieved this distinction since 1981. Mr. Nakamatsu has performed widely in North and South America, Europe, and the Far East, collaborating with such conductors as James Conlon, Marek Janowski, Raymond Leppard, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Osmo Vänskä and Hans Vonk.

Pops I ‘S Wonderful: Gershwin & Kevin Cole The 2015-16 Season begins on September 19-20 with two performances of ‘S Wonderful: Gershwin and Kevin Cole. Maestro Peter Jaffe conducts an all-Gershwin program, from Porgy & Bess to Rhapsody in Blue, as Kevin Cole— “the best Gershwin pianist in America today” (Chicago Tribune)—shows how it’s done. He has plenty of
attributions testifying to his virtuosity: “Kid, if I could have played the piano like that, I wouldn’t have become a songwriter” quipped Irving Berlin. Mr. Cole’s engagements include a sold-out performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl; BBC Concert Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall; National Symphonyat the Kennedy Center; Hong Kong Philharmonic; San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony. And he has shared the concert stage with Liza Minnelli, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Lorin Maazel, Itzhak Perlman, Brian d’Arcy James, Barbara Cook, Robert Klein, and friend and mentor Marvin Hamlisch.

Pops II A Gospel Christmas Celebration Tramaine Hawkins, vocalist André Raphel, guest conductor The Pops series continues with A Gospel Christmas Celebration, featuring Tramaine Hawkins, vocalist; A.M.E. Oakland Mass Choir, Rev. Williams, director and André Raphel, guest conductor. The very backbone of San Francisco Symphony’s beloved Colors of Christmas show is joined by multi- Grammy winner Lady Tramaine Hawkins, an inductee to the Gospel Hall of Fame. Pops III An Evening (And Afternoon) with Arturo Sandoval The Stockton Symphony is proud to present two very special performances: An Evening (and Afternoon) with Arturo Sandoval, who brings his brilliant arrangements and dazzling trumpet to Stockton. A legend, and a master of Latin music, Mr. Sandoval has been awarded 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom, 10 Grammy awards, six Billboard awards and an Emmy. (The latter was for his composing work on the entire underscore of the HBO movie based on his life, “For Love or Country� that starred Andy Garcia as Arturo.) He has recorded over 50 albums and is one of the most dynamic and vivacious live performers of our time, having been seen by millions at the Oscars, at the Grammy Awards, and the Billboard Awards. He has performed with John Williams with the Boston Pops, and in the Super Bowl with Tony Bennett and Patti LaBelle.

Pops IV The Music of Michael Jackson Brent Havens, guest conductor The Pops Series concludes with The Music of Michael Jackson. A seven-piece band joins the Symphony in a top-notch revue, covering 40 years of MJ in music and dance from Jackson 5 to Thriller and beyond. Berklee-trained arranger/conductor Brent Havens is the guest conductor. Exchange Privileges Classics subscribers can exchange their tickets to a Classics performance at Atherton Auditorium for the equal number tickets to another Classics or Pops performance at Atherton Auditorium (any increase in ticket price must be paid by patron). No fee will becharged. The exchange must be made before 12:00 noon on the Friday before the earliest concert in the exchange. Lost and Forgotten Ticket Insurance We will replace your lost, stolen, or forgotten tickets quickly and at no charge, right up to the time of performance. Call the Symphony Office or go to the Atherton Auditorium box office at Delta College just prior to the concert. Reminders To be sure you never miss a concert, we send reminder emails.

Subscription prices includes a ticketing service fee of $3-$6 per item. Exchanging tickets Pops or Classics subscribers may exchange their Atherton Auditorium concert tickets for any other Pops or Classics concert tickets held at Atherton Auditorium. There is no exchange fee for subscribers; non-subscribing patrons will becharged $5 per ticket to exchange. Any increase in ticket price as a result of the exchange must be paid by the patron.
