Heritage Research Center spring 2019

PROJECT BRIEF The proposed project is a research center dedicated to the study of the natural heritage of Saudi Arabia. The project site is located in Alruwais district, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The site is surrounded by different types of buildings and many vacant lands. The most important building near to the site is Jeddah Municipality, And a lot of residential buildings since the site is located in a commercial and residential area.

LOCATION

Jeddah

AlRuwais

Site

CLIMATIC STUDIES The site is partially shaded from the residential buildings adjacent to it but only at a very specific time of the day. The prevailing wind comes from the north-west direction and in the same direction of the shaded land area.

BUILDING PERFORMANCE INVESTIGATION

The solar radiation hitting the building envelop is minimized by the building height and form composition as shown with the blue range of colors. The courtyard is fully shaded in most of the day and half of the building is also shaded by the highest mass in the middle of the project.

CONCEPT The concept of focusing on the natural heritage is owing to the diverse nature of Saudi Arabia among all the world. The proposed design came up as a solution to the problem of neglecting natural conservation and making the research center as a futuristic vision of the country by the central courtyard that is giving the view for researchers.

24

DESING PROGRESS

01 Starting the design with a main two masses representing the seaside and the landslide of Saudi Arabia.

03 Lowering the north-western side of the building to catch the prevailing and increasing the hight of the building from the other side to shade.

02 Creating a view by adding an inner courtyard.

04 Adding the shell structure to provide natural daylight from the skylights and giving a unique central public spine to the building.

PROGRAM DIAGRAM

26

DESIGN RESPONSES User's Experience

Building Orientation The visual connection with the street is enhanced through the orientation of the shell structure so that brings people's attention to see the building from the main street.

The user experience is enriched by adding a triple hight stepped space in the interior to provide better users communication and socialization with giving an informal spirit in the community.

The designed orientation of the building is providing shading to the courtyard as well as the back side of the building, with allowing the prevailing wind to cool down the envelope temperature.

Visual Connection

Climate - Cladding Providing a courtyard with greens and seating areas increases the communication and socialization of the building users which enhance their performance.

Adding movable louvres to the western facade reduces the heat gain and the direct sunlight and glare in the interior spaces by adjusting the twist of the louvres to the required angle.

A benefit of using the GRC cladding other than its visual appearance is the thermal insulation layer is has to minimize the heat gain and decrease the cooling load of the spaces.

High Rise Residential Building “ Diligence Tower fall 2017

PROJECT BRIEF The project is a high-rise luxury building, containing apartments, garden, pool and some needs of the residents that help them live a comfortable life that has a lot of luxury. In each floor there were 3 apartments. On the last floor, there is the most luxurious apartment at the building level, designed as a villa. The building is just 5 km from the sea, and near the sea is one of the advantages of the site. It also contains on the ground floor, cafes and markets to attract people.

LOCATION

DESIGN CONCEPT the The design concept is about the shield to protect the building from the sun rays and bad winds, the shield is “ modern Mashrabiya ” and i used the old buildings materials in Jeddah “wood and stone”

DESING PROGRESS

wanted wind

creat a skin to avoid overheating for a good ventilation

SUSTAINABLE APPROACH: Jeddah is known for its high temperature and humidity. This proposed design will moderate the climatic conditions and focus on achieving the following objectives: 1. Reducing the thermal load of the building and achieving indoor thermal comfort. - In west side i creat shading elements virtically to make a shadow and in north side horizontally -Good winds comes from northwest, so i designed the red part longer to keep the wind inside the building - Bad winds comes from the southeast, so i designed i shield to avoid the winds and overheating 2. Improving the Indoor air quality. -i designed a large garden in the middle to make a good vantilation for the building - some level have a small garden to make the residents feel comfortable

COMPETITION PROJECT

I

Fish lake development 2018

COMPETITION BRIEF A competition organized by the Municipality of Jeddah for all students of the departments of Environment and Architecture in the universities and colleges of Jeddah, in order to redesign the Fish Lake, one of Jeddah's landmarks The competition aims to encourage the residents of Jeddah to participate in providing creative solutions that contribute to beautifying their city, and to motivate creative people with expertise to implement their ideas on the ground. I worked on the design with my partner Refan Abed.

DESIGN CONCEPT A person is born with his instinct a curious and hasty explorer to discover what is around him, so he begins small to explore only what is around him and grows with him to include the sky and the deepest seas of our seven seas, which is still the dream of every explorer to search in those seven worlds full of mystery. The sky consists of seven layers, the earth is divided into seven continents, and the number of wonders of the world is seven, and the rain spectrum consists of seven colors.
