Sara Altamore Urban planner | architectural engineer I am an engeneer and urban planner with a strong background. I am living in Milan. I studied and worked in Catania (M.D. and M.Sc.), Barcelona, Bilbao, Venice (PhD) and Milan. I am a PhD student in regional planning and public policies at IUAV. I am a curious and self-started person with a passion in research and learning. *** I am interested in the understanding of contemporary urban processes. I think that the design of cities should consider the transversality of urban policies in the contemporary complex and heterogeneous urban societies. I believe in the need for the adoption of a cross-cutting approach to urban policies analysis and a researchled approach is crucial to develop a innovative and sustainable project.

QUÈ SAPS DE L’AIGUA? 7A MOSTRA INTERNACIONAL D’ART URBÀ year place with

2014 Caldes de Montbui, Spain El Globus Vermell

Water is essential for human life and our planet. What do we really know about it? Caldes de Montbui is a town closely associated with thermal water, and we used to make a proposal to put a participatory test over the water to enrich the culture that we have on it. Our proposal consisted of hanging colorful canvases that had written sayings and data about water. These statements, however, were not whole and visitors had to complete them. The canvases were placed in different places of the town so that people could pick up, and made a tour of all those urban areas.

CCCB CULTURNAUTES year place with

2014 Barcelona, Spain El Globus Vermell

The workshop “Building a city for everyone” included in the CCCB Culturnautes summer camp, is a trip to the galaxy of contemporary culture. This workshop will pose a series of questions about the public spaces that work over four sessions: Which environments define the public spaces of our city? Who lives these spaces? How do we use them? Can we give a new different use? We propose, first, to explore the various public spaces around the CCCB, analyze and compare them. Then, with the knowledge acquired and from given conditions, designing a city.

The project idea was born from the intention to create an independent body. The system is defined by an element that is at the sametime the border, path, and skeleton. The meterial of the spiral path is treated wood, studied independent boards to be easy maintenance and assembly. The spiral path acts as an ordering element of the successive phases of construction. The request for temporalisation intervention and immediate accessibility of the same has suggested two phases of life, of which the first is for art exhibitions. In addition was provided the future placement of a crematorium.

(E)COABITARE GRADUATION THESIS

year place supervisor

2013 Catania, Sicily, Italy Prof. S. D’Urso

The main objective of this work is to develope a design model of a solar collector. These are traditionally applied on roofs of low buildings to cover the domestichot water and heating demand. Nevertheless, roof surface is not alweys sufficient to satisfy such demands. In this study an innovative sistem of solar thermal facade has been designd for the application on new appartments in order to satisfy the energy needs for winter heating and summer cooling. The appartments are placed in Sicily, a region which may be considered rappresentative of mild Mediterranean climete.

62

63

According to the modern needs of living, I also decided to allocate appartments in cohousing. A cohousing community is a type of intentional community composed of private homes supplemented by shared facilities.

64

Cohousing facilitates interaction among neighboors for social and practical benefits, economic and environmental benefits.

65

The proposed system consists of evacuated tube solar collector assembled on modular panels, designed to reduce the overall costs. The aesthetic istances have been properly considerated, taking care of both the design and the composition of the panels on the facade. Depending on specific requirements, each panel can be flexibly equipped with optional accessories, such as insulation layer, sun tracking mirror, maintenance and cleaning devices.
