ENGAGEMENT | Children’s Library Project Goal:
A specialized children’s library
Location:
Frederick, MD
Design Concept:
A direct relationship was created between the building’s landscape and its program. The infill, or enclosed, section of the building houses the older children who can better adapt to a more structured environment. The increased use of glass for the younger children’s section exposes the environment around them as they grow and develop. The children can also engage with their surroundings, with easy access to the neighboring community park, with access to the open courtyard.

INTERLOCKING | Soundroom Project Goal:
A sound room where musicians can visit, learn, and practice
Location:
H Street, Washington D.C.
Design Concept:
The parti involves interlocking three main C-shapes in order to define the primary spaces of the studios and collaboration space available for the performing arts community along H Street to utilize. This provides a common design element that can be felt throughout the space. Each shape is constructed using a different shade of wood in order to define each separate element and theme. The facade extends the main C shape as well as frames the building.

CONNECTION | Bridge Park Project Goal:
An elevated bridge park to be used by local community and residents
Location: 11th Street, Washington, D.C.
Design Concept:
Base on a competition prompt, the goal behind the design is to bridge the two sides of the city in order to reengage the community with spaces for learning, exercising and gathering. The infrastructure allows for enclosed areas on the bridge to be used year round. Also the rise and fall of the bridge provides visual engagement with the surrounding environment of the city.

EXPOSURE | Artist’s Studio Project Goal:
Photographer Brandon Stanton’s gallery, studio, and living space
Location:
On top of an abandoned abutment in Georgetown, Washington D.C.
Design Concept:
The space reflects Stanton’s method of exposure by allowing the local community to view his photographs while also becoming the subject of them as well. The artist himself is also exposed through the transparency of his apartment above the public entrance. The compressed gallery space transforming into an outdoor social interactive space reflects the visitors’ gradual ease towards being interviewed as a subject.

INTERACTION | Multi-Residential Project Goal:
A mixed-use multi-residential building
Location:
Baltimore, MD
Design Concept:
With a lack of public green spaces in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood, the apartment complex includes spaces for community interaction while still respecting residents’ need for private spaces. Different levels of interaction vary from the active street level, to the outdoor green amenity spaces, to the smaller private balconies. Creating a layered massing for the building allows a visual connection to these community spaces from any level of the building.

CASTELLAMMARE DI STABIA | Italy Program Goal:
Document and analyze the Villa San Marco
Location:
Castellammare di Stabia, Italy
Program Description:
Orthographic Sketch
Photostitch 20
This three week long program allowed the opportunity to conduct field surveys at an ancient villa using EDM and Lidar technology. With additional documentation of hand sketches and photographs, the last week served as postproduction, which included archiving and producing digital drawings as a permanent record for other scholars and researchers.
