01 DESIGN DISTRICT COMMUNITY CENTER The intention was to make the building a transitional space for the community. Inspired by the arrangement around courtyard of the Design District, the spaces are arranged around an atrium. Each floor is a micro climate of groupement of similar activities linked by the atrium.

02 HOUSE ADDITION The project is a hurricane proof and anti flooing home addition. The goal is the preservation of existing homes and the safety to stay in the Keys during the hurricane season.

HOUSE RAISING

HURRICANE PROOF FROMS WIND-RESISTANT ROOFS

DELTEC HOMES

Lifting a house reduces insurance premiums by 30% to 60% and increases home resale value by 15% to 25%. The full process takes 4 to 8 weeks. You could save more than $90k over 10 years if you build 3ft above base flood elevation. The size of a house, its foundations and quality of the soil underneath all affect how easy it will be to raise. Homes on solid soil with a crawl space underneath can be jacked up relatively easily and placed on footings. Homes built on a slab or located on uneven or poor quality soil may require pilings which have to be driven into the ground

DOMES Dome homes are naturally resistant to withstand strong wind pressure either from hurricane-force winds or tornadoes. The secret is the concrete re-inforced shell.

Shape 1.Wind can’t build up enough pressure on any side to cause structural failure 2. Optimum roof picth (6/12) for wind deflection and reduce lift. 3. Circular structure transfers environmental loads most efficiency.

PROCESS

Engineering 4. Radial floor and roof trusses work like spokes on wheel. 5. Energy from wind is dispersed instead of building up in a single area.

CONCEPT The development of the concept is based on a process called house raising and geometries that are hurricane resistant, where the pressure does not build up on any surfaces. The bunker addition is a folded architrecture with broken down surfaces.

04 LIVE-IN PAVILION Located in Miami Design district, the pavilion act as a parasite of the Museum Garage, on the roof, that has a similar language on the facade. The garage include interactive design; the pavilion is an extension of the experience. It a living in pavilion for a Comtemporary artist. It can be affiliated with the ICA, an art gallery located accross.

05 ADU This project is an ADU located in Miami. The main house is owned by a couple living with two young kids looking for extra income. The ADU will be a place of retreat for tourist and be used occasionally by the couple as an escape place for their own relaxation.

The aesthetic looked for is an earthy simplistic design for a calming effect. Therefore, the materials envisioned are precast concrete panels, glass, steel, and wood; their raw and sober texture reflect earthy color tones and create a serene feel.

The layout prioritizes the access to natural light to have a connection with the environment and includes indoor/outdoor areas; the living room is enclosed within sliding glass doors and can be converted into an outdoor living. The parking provide space for an art workshop when not occupied with storage accessible from the exterior. Considering the small area available, the openness in the interior creates the illusion of a larger space and avoid a feeling of tightness.
