Emma’s Perspective I really enjoy attending Carmel as I like the fact that there is a friendly atmosphere throughout the college. I chose to study Health and Social Care at A Level after finding the subject really interesting at GCSE. The staff here are so supportive and are more than happy to help whenever you need anything. At Carmel you also get the opportunity to do other activities including trips and visits which can be extremely beneficial to your studies. After Carmel, I would like to go to university to study a degree in Midwifery.
AS/A2 Health and Social Care Exam Board AQA What is this qualification? The GCE Applied A Level in Health and Social Care (Double Award) is comprised of twelve units of study and is equivalent to two A Levels. This course is studied over two years, along with one or two other A Levels of your choice, dependant upon your interests and career aims. For example, Health and Social Care (Double Award) taken with a Science A Level supports applications for a degree in radiography, nursing or midwifery, or with one of a range of A Levels, it supports applications for teacher training or social work. Again, this qualification combines well with almost all AS and A2 Level subjects. This is an academic qualification which provides students with a broad knowledge of health, social care and early years services and allows you to focus on different aspects of the subject area. Because it is broad-based, it gives students research and examination based skills to progress into specific training in the health and care sector or transfer to other occupational areas. What will I study?

Studying Health and Social Care has helped me to learn various skills which can be applied to everyday life and future careers or occupations. All of the tutors are fantastic and help to make learning fun and interesting. The Health and Social Care department organised guest speakers from a complementary therapies clinic which was really beneficial for our coursework and gave us a firsthand experience of various therapies. There was also a guest speaker who taught us about the dietary needs and restrictions for the Islamic religion which provided me with a greater understanding. I also carried out a work experience placement which I really enjoyed and found really beneficial as it related to the career that I hope to pursue. When I leave Carmel College I hope to study Midwifery at university and eventually become a midwife.
