Christ College Brecon, founded in 1541, is one of the oldest schools in Wales.
Situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, the school has a wealth of experience in hosting students and running a summer camp of activities in a beautiful, safe and secure environment.
Our Summer Adventure Camps are the perfect opportunity for young people aged 10-17 to take on a great adventure away from home during a long summer break. We offer an exciting range of group adventure and sporting activities in the mountains, rivers and woodlands of the Brecon Beacons and the incredible Gower coastline.
Activities are gently challenging and aimed at encouraging teamwork and having fun. If you are looking for your children to enjoy some quality time outdoors in a beautiful environment with other young people, then our camps are the choice for you.
We are very experienced in hosting international students and this is the perfect place to learn English, have an adventure and make new friends.
Our Summer Adventure Camps offer an exciting range of group adventure and sporting activities in the mountains, rivers and woodlands of the Brecon Beacons and the incredible Gower coastline.
INTRODUCTION
Our international summer camp gives girls and boys aged 10 to 17 the opportunity to experience life in a foreign country where they can learn or improve their English and also take part in a wide range of adventure, sporting and cultural activities.
If you are looking for your children to enjoy some quality time outdoors in a beautiful environment with other young people, then our camps are the choice for you.
CAMP OVERVIEW
Your children will enjoy a mix of exhilarating adventure days in the Brecon Beacons and along the Welsh coast over their two weeks, details of which you will find below:
High Level Ropes, Zip Wire, Climbing & Abseiling
Unleash your inner Tarzan with our high-level ropes and zip wire course. Equipped with a safety harness and climbing helmet, camp-goers will attempt several rope challenges starting from ground level up to 30ft high, including the balance log, trapeze bar and cow tails. Next, check out the range of routes on the climbing wall and learn how to abseil. Will you attempt the vertical take off? Don’t worry, team mates are there to keep a close watch at all times. Campers will then swing to the finish line with an 80 meter zip wire.
Gorge Walking
A firm favourite amongst our campgoers, this immensely popular activity includes jumps, slides, swims and an array of challenges. Wearing wetsuits, buoyancy aids and a water helmet, your child will follow an instructor to embark on a journey, heading upstream of the river, exploring behind waterfalls, jumping off ledges and landing safely into deep pools.
Surfing
Get stuck into the sea and surf of the Gower coastline and learn from our experts how to stand on a surf board and become a natural at travelling the waves. Taking in the beauty of our Welsh beaches, camp-goers will
Cartoon Illustration
Your child can become the next best storyteller in our cartoon illustration workshop. They will learn the art of cartoon illustration and recreate their favourite characters in their very own story that they can take home and enjoy.
Karting
Making Music
Brand new to our Summer Camps this year is karting. To get adrenaline pumping, we’ll be going on a trip to Newport’s number one indoor go-karting centre where your child will enjoy racing on the largest and fastest track in Wales.
Art, Cartoon Illustration, Music Making
A key part of the programme is for students to enjoy some time dedicated to cultural pursuits. This includes learning new skills in either art, cartoon illustration
In this exciting class, your child will create their own music using a web-based software. Regardless of their experience, any age and any level of ability are welcome to come along and explore their musical talent. After the teaching of the software, there will be individual teacher support for each child which will lead to a group presentation at the end.Everyone will have their own audio file to take away and play as they please.
Art Workshop
Your child will learn experimental watercolour techniques based on the work of the artist Ann Blockley. The session will provide a creative outlet to unleash their inner artist, working towards creating their own botanical painting using these techniques.
Despite busy and action-packed days, your child will enjoy free time to relax in the grounds or the boarding house with supervision at all times.
Sport & Games
Back by popular demand, we host a range of popular sports led by our trained sport coaches. Coaches will be leading collaborative team-based games in traditional sports including football, cricket, tennis, swimming and rounders and fun team challenges such as frisbee golf, dodgeball and capture the flag that bring the campers together.
Recreational Activities
Despite busy and action-packed days, your child will enjoy free time to relax in the grounds or the boarding house with supervision at all times. There will also be a full programme of fun evening activities to bring everyone together and round off each day.
The excellent facilities offered in the grounds of Christ College include extensive sports fields, a heated swimming pool, a sports hall, tennis and squash courts, an all-weather sports pitch and a performance hall. All activities take place in the highest quality facilities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
It doesn’t end there! We host a range of fun social events including, campfires, parachute games, team challenges, treasure hunts, quizzes and an end of camp party for our campers to let loose,
relax and get to know their campmates. Campfires are a popular activity. We take the opportunity on some evenings to sing some songs in the woodlands of the school site, creating a calm and welcoming environment for our campgoers to come together.
Options -
Golf or Horse Riding
There is also the option for students to choose horse riding at a nearby riding centre, which enjoys 25 miles of private bridleways (suitable for all abilities) or golf at Cradoc Golf Club where they can spend time on the driving range or if they are an experienced player, enjoy a game of golf with some of the most spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons. A supplemental fee is required for these options.
Trips
While we will be showing our camp-goers the beauty of the Welsh countryside, we will also be embarking on some exciting and educational trips. These include an overnight stay and tour of London, and a day trip to Cardiff, capital city of Wales, to visit Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay and the famous Principality Stadium, home of rugby in Wales.

Students will stay in comfortable boarding houses, each with their own common areas for relaxation and socialising.
ENGLISH TUITION OPTIONS
Formal English language tuition will take place in small classes, with children being grouped according to ability. English language tuition will focus on teaching students to express their thoughts and ideas in English and to respond to English speakers, building their confidence in the language. Both written and oral proficiency will be targeted to ensure maximum immersion is accomplished, with two hours of classes each weekday.
Students will be immersed daily in the English language as English will be spoken by all camp participants and teachers at all times, increasing their confidence and comfort in English communication.

ACCOMMODATION & PASTORAL CARE
Our aim is for everyone to enjoy a fantastic summer experience safely in a warm and caring environment. Students will stay in comfortable boarding houses, each with their own common areas for relaxation and socialising. They will be expertly looked after by our trained male and female Group Leaders as well as resident Team Leads.
Each student will be assigned to a Team Lead who will be responsible for the student’s wellbeing during the camp and be a friendly face to mentor them.
MEALS
All food preferences will be catered for through a diverse range of British and internationally well-balanced cuisine, all of which will be served in our historic dining hall.
There will also be a full programme of fun evening activities to bring everyone together and round off each day.
FAQs
Do the fees for the international summer camp cover everything?
Fees for the international summer camp cover all accommodation, meals, activities, trips and transport to and from London Heathrow Airport. A little spending money for shopping on days out or small treats is advised.
Who is the summer camp suited to?
The summer camp is suited to any young person aged 10-17 who loves sport and adventure, making new friends, experiencing a new culture and strengthening their English-speaking skills.
Are the adventure activities dangerous?
No. Ensuring safety during our activities is our number one priority. The adventure activities are all led by suitably qualified adventure specialists and the activities are designed for each age group to be challenging but always safe. Children are gently encouraged to take part in all activities but may opt out if they desire.
What do I need to pack?
A kit list will be provided for each camp. This will be sent to parents once they have booked and all details are confirmed.
Will students have access to their mobile phone/device?
Yes, there will be times in the day when everyone will have access to their phones/devices to contact home or friends.
Are there single rooms available?
Some single rooms are available in the 1317 age camp on a first come first served basis. The majority of our camp-goers enjoy sharing a room and form positive friendships with their roommates. For the younger 10-12 age camp, there are very few single rooms and most children will be staying in dormitories with other children. We have a wide range of comfortable double, triple and multi-bed rooms.
Can I contact my child at any time?
All parents will be given the number for the camp phone and may phone if necessary at any time.
How do we keep in touch with the everyday schedule?
Photos of the children enjoying and taking part in each of the activities will be posted daily on a dedicated Instagram account. Parents will be given the address of this account once it is live so that they can follow the camp’s schedule daily.
If I come with a friend, can we stay in the same dormitory together?
Yes, absolutely. If friends come together in a group and would like to share a room, we shall do our best to ensure this request is accommodated.
