“ My Teaching in NSTP for the Second Semester for school year 2018-2019 was really challenging and vexing. Challenging because I know another type of subject shall be taught and I have to make myself prepared to face another reality especially that I will be seeing new faces, new students and perhaps talented students in the College, though I knew

some of them because they were once my students in the Junior High School. Vexing because there are a lot of things to do and to accomplish every Saturday. But nevertheless, having you as my students and having these tasks together with you makes me feel good and it gives me more excitement throughout.

As your NSTP Adviser, I feel so proud to you, My Dear Students for the fact that you were able to comply all the tasks given to you without hesitation and compliant. It’s a character of being a responsible students and respectful as well. Your Unity and Teamwork, Dedication, Integrity, made you the best and true people. Thank You so much my Dear Students for trusting and believing in me and for the amazing times we’ve shared. So guys, keep up the good work and deeds always! “

“ Going back to the day preparation that every NSTP 2. Students had with their adviser the week before the 15th, I was the glad that my classmates showed their enthusiasm and participation for the fruitfulness of the activity. Although we were not on the same page on the part on what the Children’s Lunch should be, we all favored to be more practical and exact. No violent reaction included. I was one of the people who take down notes and drafted the flow of the program. This gave us an assurance that with our outmost planning, our program will be successful, in which it was. Back to the morning of 15th, as we were all packed up and ready to go, we had a bumpy jeepney ride towards the destination. Once again, I was feeling anxious to the sudden exposure of kindness that I will show later on. For the past few years of gift giving’s and charity works out of the public’s eyes, I was nervous. I thought that today, the 15th, is the first for me. I viewed myself as the type of person who does not want to build an expectation and set standards as to how far the goodness within me can be. The belief of “God works from behind those eyes” had an impact since I was little and even though I was raised within a family who had to religions, my mother being a Catholic and my father being an Adventist (now a converted catholic), we all agreed to this belief. And now, on a Saturday of the December 15th, I am going to a School conducted gift giving program in which we are all expected to have to “adopt a child” in the midst of the event. On the first gospel of 2018, it was said 2018-2019 is the year of the Family where the church celebrates the morals and feasts of the saints specially for the purpose of enriching the hearts and homes. Upon entering a University as a Freshmen student, we were also educated about the subjects that were supposed to tackle.

8

December 15 started out with horde of heaves and hos of excitement coming from the students of Section B under the guidance of Sir Alfio R. Soco. Even the weather seemed to favor and mix with the chattering hearts of the students, the day before, I was overwhelmed with my shaky nerves and wobbly thoughts considering the fact that this is my first gift giving together with other people. My family and I were used to giving gifts to charities in forms of cash donation but what made me this year’s special is I’m the one who choose the gifts to be given and I experienced the anxiety that they all feel. My mind was filled with thoughts pertaining to how my gift will make a difference to a child’s Christmas, and as I look around, I can see my classmates giving thoughts to their recipient too as the gifts were customized to be big and small, narrower and wider, classier and fancier. The 15th day of December made an impact to me. I was engulfed by the nostalgia of my childhood was the goofy smiles of the children. It brought me back to the eager 10 years old version of myself who rushes down the stairs just to har the Christmas greeting of my beloved parents. Upon hearing the word “Christmas”, it gives an abundance of joy and it made me realize that Christmas is not only all about the festive season of Jesus and his coming, it can be about us. It can be us. Yes, Christmas waves a magic wand over this world that makes everything seemed wonderful and light. But all through out the event, and meeting my sponsored child, Angelica Katelyn Balansag, it made me think that it is Christmas in the heart that put the Christmas in the air the pleasure that I got when she too was delighted about my present was beyond words and she even said the No present ever teared her up,”Wala ko kasugat og ingani ate.” When all I gave her was a complete se of my treasured bible comics that I valued as a kid. On the 15th day of December, I learned that when you give not only good thing but also thoughts such as love, compassion and happiness, it comes back a thousand folds to you. It is therefore in giving, that we receive.

Sinulog is one of the best and many fiestas that we cebuanos celebrate, visit and adore. Our very own Cebu known as the “Queen City of the South” handle this prestige event and give efforts to make this powerful, memorable and successful. Organizers in the Sinulog have many sorts of “Pahalipay” o the Cebuanos such as: Fluvial Parade, Street Dancing, Sinulog sa kabataan, Float Parade. The Novena Mass procession is one of the major events in which it shows the wholeheartedly devotion of the senor Santo Nino.

Last January 19 2019, the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES NSTP CWTS 2 STUDENTS SERVED AT THE SINULOG GRAND PARADE

As the students in NSTP USPF I were able to participate the Procession of Senor Santo Nino wherein we were task to controlled the in and out of the crowd around the road. Together with the other students from the different Universities we worked as hand in hand so that inappropriate incident will not happened. As we assigned in the MJ. Cuenco Avenue there are hundreds or more likely thousands of devotee people that want to join the said procession. There are cops that keeps on telling us what the right things to do. I saw people holding there Santo Nino’s and waving their hands as the song “Bato Balani sa Gugma” play. In that momentous event I really felt that we Cebuano’s has the greatest connection of the Balaan bata which is Senior Santo Nino. In addition, holding the rope is not easy because it needs to have constant mindset not to break it or else people from outside the procession might cause trouble but still, we were able to maintain the security and controlled the crowd. Experiencing the activity of being one of the crowd controllers is very nice and memorable, it gives the energy and determination to be a good citizen, devotee and a person. Viva Pit Senyor!

10

“ NSTP-2 students were assigned to be a crowd controller during procession on last January

19,2018 and a hundred students from a different school was participated on that event. It wasn’t easy for me because the instructions said that the procession will start at 1:00 pm and we should meet in Mabini Campus around 11 am so that we can go together in the place that we’ve been assigned. We went around 10 o’clock in the morning and as we commuted, we did not go straight to the specific meeting place where we have been assigned because almost all of the road that is directed to

Cathedral Church and Sto. Nino were blocked and already crowded by people already.”

The NSTP subject was one of the subjects that I have been taking seriously, despite the catcalls that it was all but a ‘minor’ subject. I was confused as to why most of us were not captivated by the purpose that speaks for the greater good. It was an honor for me to have been one of the carriers of the NSTP legacy ever since I started my first semester.

IKYAS is a short

film that tells the tragic experience of T o n i o w h o witnessed his father’s downfall because of using Drugs. The Story then unfolds how Tonio’s father shaped him to become a man just like him. “ Ang “pagikyas” (Tonio referred to his Drug Addiction) mao ang akong pamaagi para maka-ikyas (he refers to the problematic life he currently have) “ UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES FOUNDATION PRODUCTIONS Directed and Written by: Sarah Mae M. The dangerous Drugs Board estimated that the 65% of the 3.7 million drug users of 2016 are young people. From 2011 – 2016, a total of 956 minors were involved in drug-related cases with the youngest as early as 6 years old. With the country facing a grave drug-problem that involves minor and barely-legal drug users, parents would want to protect their children from the scourge. There is a pressing need to help on those who are. It is a misconception since we are all focused on a one sided saving. Zero Tolerance against drugs means that there will be no exemption that can hinder the disciplinary measures of the

government while extending a helping hand to the already fallen comrades of Drug Addiction

An excerpt from Sarah Mae Abuhan’s Entry: “Drug Rhapsody: Drugs is the question, NO should be the answer “ which won the 3rd Place in the NSTP-Drug Awareness Essay Writing Contest.

There is a new rhapsody in town, and it has meddled and ended the melodious hopes and dreams of the youth. As the age of “Kamay na Bakal” began, today’s war against illegal drugs has been the subject of controversy and disputes considering that it became a 2 vs. 1 match. The Duterte Administration is the Human Rights and the Catholic Faith. The battle can be seen from 3 different perspectives, with all three contenders pin-pointing and aiming to completely exterminate the cause on why we are slowly using the future of the “Bayan Ni Juan”

Christian Joshua De Santos and Kyle Aguirre wrote and performed a song called “ Don’t You Give Up “ intended for the young victims of the rampant Drug Addiction

A research entitled: HOW WASTE MANAGEMENT IS OBSERVED IN BARANGAY KAMPUTHAW

16

It is a fact that the rapid urbanization of cities in the country has provided ample opportunities for growth. The other side of the same coin however bares a grim reality that there are consequences to having scores of rural dwellers migrating to cities. In general, this rapid urbanization happening in many cities globally has had certain repercussions such as the lack of jobs, inadequate infrastructure, and even waste management issues. Similar to most of the other Asia-Pacific countries, the Philippines is now facing an increasingly severe situation ofmunicipal solid waste processing and management. According to the statement of the World Bank, 25% of the solid waste in the country is generated in Manila major metropolitan area. The reasons can be attributed to the booming of multiple consumption forms including food packaging. The increasing uses of disposable staffs have also worsened this situation. Some of the packagings contain hazardous materials which can pose danger to the surrounding environment, therefore, only a good and effective management of those solid waste could help this country out of this large potential danger. Among Cebu City’s lofty ambitions is to create a sustainable solid waste management system considering the fact that Cebu City, being the metro’s hub for trade, commerce, and culture, holds a key role in realizing a “Waste-free Philippines dream”. Barangay Kamputhaw is one of the Barangays located within the heart of the city that the researchers chose to undergo on an environmental survey which studies the effectivity of the Waste Management System observed in the community. The Student researchers expresses the need to study the root of the waste management problems by conducting a people-friendly survey to somehow narrow down the effectivity of the Management of the Waste by barangay. The objectives of the researchers is to determine the deficiency of the Waste Management program applied in the barangay. The researchers aims to reach a final analysis on the topic and at the same time, formulate an eco-friendly and community friendly solution based on the data gathered.

A research entitled: FUNCTIONALITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BARANGAY HEALTH CENTER SERVICES TO RESPONSE FIRST AID TREATMENT AND THE NEEDS OF ITS RESIDENTS IN BARANGAY KAMPUTHAW, CEBU CITY 18

Each of our family members are close to our hearts. We don’t want anything to happen to them. We always look out for them and take care of them. Truly, they are our treasures. Living in an environment we learn how to socialize with others and as time flies they help to mold our selves. As we grow closer to them, we would fear that one day they might get sick or worse dead. Health is the top priority of the leaders of a barangay next to hunger. It must be assured that the officials of the barangay do their work in sustaining the needs of their people within their jurisdiction. This includes the annual medical check-up of the residents to make sure that their residents are in good health and could pinpoint those residents who needs medical attention. Having a huge population within your jurisdiction is truly difficult for the leaders to accommodate everyone. For them to assist the whole barangay they need to get help from their own people to also coordinate with them. With this little act of ‘bayanihan’ they would be able to save a hefty price; for health is priceless. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not the barangay health center in Barangay Kamputhaw is efficient in assisting their people with their medical needs and if they provide agendas or activities that could let the residents be aware of certain problems and concerns about the current diseases that are endemic. This study can benefit the barangay councilors of Barangay Kamputhaw for they can be aware of the concerns of its residents and can provide more agendas and activities to comply the resident’s needs.

Congratulations batch 2019! Your exemplary effort in engaging the different trainings through NSTP program made you better citizens, responsible and accountable persons. A year of training maybe made you resilient in any eventualities in life. Life, in many ways, is constantly exposed to either natural or manmade hazard, vulnerability, risk, and even devastating disaster. You maybe now are confident of your capability to mitigate such life exposure to danger, however, the best weapon is to make yourself safe at all times. Safety and preparedness plan must be made, precisely because everyone is naturally incline to avoid loses of things and much loses of lives. You have succeeded in the training maybe because you are passionate to undergo in the process of acquiring skills, and maybe because you are also monitored and graded by your NSTP program adviser. What may be is the case, the truth is, in your closing ceremony, you will be recognize that you have successfully completed the CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING SERVICE component of NSTP program. Your being good citizens does not end during the closing ceremony, instead, keeping your hearts burning should be your guiding torch to continuously render voluntary service to the challenges in the community where you are in. The real meaning of service is actually measured when you do it voluntarily without your teacher or adviser giving you points for your grades. Can you see your own self in this manner after this ceremony? You know, and maybe everybody knows that there are a lot of challenges lie ahead of us. In like manner, there are a lot of things put before us which need voluntary actions. Do you still have the courage to extend your helping hand or the burning heart to love the most unlovable one? Where can we see you other this NSTP program.
