Behind The App
This is an app that aims to help maintain independence and ways of life after a diagnosis of dementia. Every diagnosis is different, and dementia affects every individual in unique ways. The app therefore wants to ensure that someone suffering with dementia can deal with some of the life-altering symptoms, with the help and support of loved ones, in ways that are familiar and comfortable for them. We feel it’s important to ensure that anyone directly impacted by dementia, including family, has access to fundamental information, tools and external support. This app is complementary to crucial human support throughout the course of dementia & has the potential to bridge the gap between a point of assessment and the later developed symptoms, providing the knowledge and tools to make this life-changing period of time as normal as possible. To reflect the sensitive and considerate approach of the motive behind the app’s creation, it has been designed in a friendly, approachable and yet professional fashion.
Style Views Here are two examples of the ‘views’ of the app. In other words, these pages contain the primary content such as text, visuals and interactions. Below a scroll bar is shown to indicate scrolling is necessary and an icon that can be pressed to activate a transition into another page. The intro to the app is also displayed.

Colour Palette Primary - App The primary colour palette consists of a unique, vibrant blue, a warm off-white, a sophisticated grey and a true white. This creates a limited yet relevant colour palette with enough contrast to create legibility and a clear aesthetic.
Secondary - App The app contains important customisable features, one of which being the ability to allocate colours to symptoms. The colours that can be used are a mix of both vibrant and pastel colours which all complement the primary colour palette. There are also complementary colours used in the simple brain illustration when reading about the symptoms.
Icons The icons are made up of a neutral yet bold palette which allow them to work harmoniously alongside any of the colours above and stand out on the page.

App Icon
The app icon is simple and uses bold, contrasting colours to stand out amongst other app icons. It uses the most dominant blue colour in the primary palette, as well as the off-white to create a friendly yet professional tone. It contains important pieces of text - the app’s name and the NHS whom have produced it.
Notifications
Notifications Notifications are a key aspect of some of the tools mentioned in the final app prototype. Here is an example of how the out-of-app notifications work. An overt and clear notification pops-up with a sound alert, and has to be dismissed before disappearing. The colours and typeface used are consistent with the branding, and the text fits the same tone as the text used in the app. There is the ability to get further help which coincide with other existing applications such as google maps and the telephone.
Phone Usage The app is compatible with phones and tablets since one of it’s main philosophies is that it’s accessible and brings many loved-ones together throughout a tough situation. Displayed below are examples of how some of the main screens throughout the app adapt according to the dimensions of an Apple iPhone 5s.
