KNOLL ANNUAL REPORT

OBJECTIVE

SOLUTION

Design an annual report for your assigned client. Not only capture the brand essence of your client, but also create a compelling theme which will show your client’s shareholder’s the company’s current happenings

In a world that is always evolving, Knoll’s classic modern sensibilities remain. The theme of the 2016 annual report I designed is, “the spaces we live in”, which shows the correlation between our spaces and our day-to-day lives.

REBIRTH AFTER THE HOLOCAUST

OBJECTIVE

Create a compelling poster for the “Rebirth after the Holocaust: Bergen-Belsen Displaced Persons Camp” exhibit. The museum specifically asked for a positive and “happy” image.

BACKGROUND

After the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp was liberated by the British Army on 15 April 1945, the survivors were taken to the nearby Wehrmacht barracks where they received medical treatment. The former concentration camp prisoners and forced labourers who had been deported to Germany from all over Europe were given the status of “displaced persons” (DPs) by the Allies. Most of the survivors returned to their countries of origin, but many – primarily Jewish and Polish former prisoners – remained in Bergen-Belsen, where they restarted their lives.

SOLUTION

After many different concepts, my creative director and I settled on doing an illustrative treatment where the barbed wire, a symbol of the imprisonment of the camps, slowly transitions into vines filled with flowers that show the growth and prosperity of the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp.

D.I.S.D. ADOPT A CLASS

OBJECTIVE

Choose a cause and then construct and design a full campaign that satisfies the needs of shareholders, and subject.

BACKGROUND

I chose to deal with the issue of poverty in the Denton Independent School District. Students and their parents are unable to afford school supplies, and often times teachers are having to pay out of their own pocket for supplies for their classroom.

SOLUTION

In an effort to help teachers, students, and the local Denton community, I’ve constructed the D.I.S.D. Adopt a Class program. Small businesses pair up with classrooms and as a group effort send out boxes to class rooms in need of supplies. In return, the students send back items t h ey m a k e u s i n g t h e i r s u p p l i e s , a n d a n i n t e raction between the students and the business workers occurs.

THE SATORI GENERATION KNOLL ANNUAL REPORT

PROJECT

OBJECTIVE

Attain an understanding of the design and layout process of traditional print magazines/linear media. Learn a good foundation of print aesthetics through the creation of a 3-spread editorial.

BACKGROUND

“To many of them, travel beyond the known and lo c a l i s ex p e n s i v e a n d p ot e nt i a l ly d a n g e ro u s . They work part-time jobs—because that is what t h ey ’ v e b e e n o f f e r e d — a n d l i v e at h o m e l o n g after they graduate. They’re not getting married or having kids. They’re not even sure if they want to be in romantic relationships. Why? Too much hassle. Oh, and too expensive.”

LFL ACTION BOOK CLUB

OBJECTIVE

Increase literacy rates in children who come from low-income families and don’t have access to books or a parental figure/adult who is able to read to them on a regular basis.

SOLUTION

Action Book Clubs are held after school for elementary-aged children. The club is chaperoned by an adult (Either a volunteer parent or teacher). Younger grade levels are paired up wih higher grade levels to read to one another, in a buddy system. Kids who already have the ability to read will be able to help other kids who struggle with reading.

Thank you PROFESSORS

Thank you Karen for showing me to the importance of detail. Thank you Alex for teaching that design is only worth it if you enjoy what you are doing. Thank you Keith for pushing me to have fun. A special thank you to Clinton, who has been a wonderful mentor to me over the past few years. Thanks for instilling in me the value of concept and the need for human-centric design.

FRIENDS

Thank you to my dear friends for sticking with me over the years despite my hectic schedule! Thank you for understanding that sometimes hanging out with me meant just doing homework together.

MOM & DAD

Again, your support throughout this entire journey means everything to me! Thank you for your endless love and for all your encouragement.

JONATHAN

Thank you to my brother who has always inspired me to be not only a better designer, but a better person. I’m eternally grateful for your late night critiques and all the wisdom you shared.
