Pink Fringe

Pink Fringe is our in-house production company, dedicated to building year round queer culture in Brighton & Hove. We’re presenting four outstanding shows this year that simply must not be missed. From Manchester, co-presented by Queer Contact, we have Kate O’ Donell’s Big Girl’s Blouse, a one-woman show about growing up trans* in the 1970s, and Eggs Collective Get a Round, a celebratory yet honest exploration of a Girls Night Out.

And to top it all off, we hail the glittering return of Miss Behave’s Gameshow; anarchic, post apocalyptic and awash with sequins and cardboard – Winner of best Cabaret at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2015.

Arch 468 Cuddles by Joseph Wilde Friday 1 st May 7.30 pm Saturday 2 nd May 7.30 pm Sunday 3 rd May 7.30 pm

Eve is a 13 year old vampire. She has never left her room and everything she knows about the world comes from what her sister Tabby has told her. Eve lives in a world without sunlight. A world crammed full of story book characters but with just one living, breathing human being to cuddle. Eve does everything a good little vampire girl should, including drinking her (human) sister’s blood. But one day, Tabby tires of opening her veins and, in a breath, the whole world changes.

Edith, Elizabeth and I Inspired by the life and works of Edith Sitwell. Juliet attempts to put on a play about her heroines, Edith Sitwell and Elizabeth I, but discovers that telling the tales of others has its pitfalls, particularly when the subjects themselves turn up, and force her to face a few home truths. A witty, honest and moving one-woman show with a cast of three, all vying for the role of leading lady.

Hard Graft I am making a show about my dad, but I don’t want him to see it. In Hard Graft, David Sheppeard investigates how much can change between one generation of a family and the next and the lengths we go to bridge the divide. A performance about reluctant fathers and wayward sons set against the backdrop of the occasional mining disaster and the fading industrial landscapes of South Wales. Produced by Faith Dodkins. Outside eye and Mentor, Stacy Makishi.

b i g g i r l’ s Kate o’Donnell b l o u s e Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman… Who knew what being transgender was in the 1970s? Not Kate’s family. To be fair, crispy pancakes had only just landed in the Midlands so she had her work cut out. Big Girl’s Blouse sees Kate make a song and dance about her life using humour, music and costume to tell her story. Commissioned by Contact. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Supported by the Wellcome Collection as part of the Sexology Season.

Pinned on the arse-end of a night out, this is a show with lipstick on its teeth and Wotsits on its face. A wayward exploration of friendship and kindness that spills out towards its audience. In a world that tells us we’re not rich, thin or successful enough, Eggs Collective wonder if the basic principles of a good night out might make the world a better place. Eggs Collective are a trio making sharp, funny, politicallymotivated performance that falls between the cracks of theatre and cabaret.

The Room in the Elephant is that space made between men to discuss those things ordinarily best avoided. Composed from taped conversations made in the heat of the moment, in the dead of night, this louche celebration of masculine juvenility dares to be about exactly what’s on our minds.
