The focus was on how process effects design. At the end of the project I realized that there is not a final product or space, but the process continues on.

The Site
Pencil drawing at 1/2 scale of part of the ground at the site, original paper size 36”x36”. (right) Concept map using the photos of the site arranged and articulated by how I remembered feeling as I walked through the site. (right)
Exhibition Space
I responded by creating a simple wall that could be the background to any type of project. It emphasis the emotions that are felt as walking through the site. It is very directional and focused until the end where it opens up to the river to create a meditation moment. Detail of a typical hanger that can be moved anywhere for different projects. (right)
The Booth To better understand how our bodies and emotions relate and react to the space we were asked to chose a small space and document how it felt. We were to think of the space as a place to give a confession.
The Story The story describes how space affects the person and how they feel as they are bout to confess
Architectural Studio 1 - 2007
Confessional
The back wall
The back wall was a 3d response to the drawing of the booth. Using the shapes, lines and emotional description to build the space.
Leaning against the cold surface the clothes and hair suffocate from head to toe. The space makes it hard to breathe. Struggling to get
closer to the edge as not to fill the space, and making room for air. The
edges are battling, trying to push away and reveal the confession to the space. The hard lines scold, increasing guilt. There is no comfort in the fake unpredictable fabric. The lines act as a cage and the confession is trapped. The
assortments above are judging as the confession is attempting to conceal its conversation. Trapped in a mangled cage, everything is forced to listen and react to the confession. The light reflects creating white blinding spots causing confusion and distraction. The space opens up in the distance. The only safe place is where he is here and now.

Structure
Shelves
The Site A 1 meter wide section of an old warehouse set to be demolished.
Persona
Our individual perspectives allow each person to interpret differently. As I walked through the site I documented it in pieces and sorted each piece into different collections. As a collector, one can recreate order to the objects.
The final Confession Design is used to express emotions and feelings. The drawing was a trace of all the shadows and reflections of the different collections. It is a moment of meditation.
Shadows
The structure contains the deed.
Traces of Time
The shelves hold the knowledge.
Shadows reflect the emotion.

Design Build
Project mount was a display case for architectural presentations. It is a simple construction with Japanese joinery making it easy to take a part and put together in different ways depending on the project.

The Site
Before the settlers came to Manitoba, the land was used by the prairie Indians. They followed the animals, and constantly moved around on the land using only what they needed. Their homes (teepee’s) allowed for them to withstand the climate, move around easily and carry their home quickly on horseback. Today, Manitobans still don’t know who actually owns the land.

Prairie House
Design Theory
The first European settlers in Manitoba created the way we live today. Many homes are flooded every year by the rivers’ fluctuating water levels. Farmers cannot to anything to sustain themselves if there is a failed crop. The prairie Indians are having a hard time incorporating their culture into the European planning. In attempt to use the prairies to their potential but not to take away from the luxuries our homes, I proposed a moving house that did not need a grid system.
Design Investigation The Structure had to be lightweight and strong. I investigated weaving different types of materials.
The main structure would be bent material with the structure for the main living area woven thru the middle of the structure being carried and supported by mechanical legs.
The legs were adapted from Theo Jansens’ work. I consulted with an mechanical engineer to understand how mechanical legs would work. I used legs instead of wheels due to the difficult terrain I wanted the home to navigate over.
Design Challenge main floor 541 sq.ft
The challenge was to fit 6 townhouse units into a regular sized Winnipeg residential lot.
Design Concept
Each unit has a patio on the third floor for private outdoor space. The cut outs in the facade help define entrances and units. It also allows for maximum windows on the facade without exceeding the amount allowed by limiting distances
Involvement
2nd floor 566 sq.ft
2nd floor 355 sq.ft
I was involved in the concept drawings and renderings and preparing a drawing package to present to the client. The project has now been built however I was not involved in the construction process.

Design Challenge
To design a shelf system for a Metal Testing Engineering firm.
Design Concept
The shelving unit is simple and incorporates different kinds of metal that the shop can easily recycle from previous projects. The size was predetermined by the filing boxes it was required to store.
Involvement
I was the main designer on this project and provided the client with a complete set of construction drawings.

230 Martin ave
The Building
230 Martin ave used to be a control building for the provincial telephone services. The building is 3400 sq.ft. of open space on each floor.
Program
The Client wanted a 4-bedroom home with a roof top patio
Design Concept
I wanted this project to convey the idea and the beauty of raw materials and explore how we can refinish existing building materials and architectural features.
Current state
The building has completed all the interior framing and services. Interior finishes are complete installed. Roof top patio to be completed in the next year.

The Building
10 Linden Ridge is a 4 storey Condominium building, designed for an undeveloped lot within a existing residential neighborhood.
Program
The building has a variety of different sized units. The majority of the parking is underground to create pedestrian friendly access. To keep the building under budget we constructed a drywall fire wall system, the first of its type to be built in Winnipeg.
Involvement
I was the main designer on this project working under the direction of Daniel Serhal. My Job entailed coordinating with the engineering consultants, applying for city permits, and acting as the project architect.
Current state
The foundation of this project is 85% complete, framing will start shortly. More than half of the 72 condo units have been sold.
