The winner bakes it all

This Jubilee June, the RTW Together Business Improvement District is rising to the occasion with Cake Off 2022! Served up on Saturday 4th June, 11am-3pm on the Pantiles, this tasty town centre event showcases some of our best bakers.

Members of the public will be able to sample a variety of free ‘royal-themed’ cake from a selection of town centre hospitality businesses, and vote for their favourite. The event will also feature live music from vintage jazz band Miss Kiddy and the Cads, as well as compering and music from KMFM, chefs on stilts and free (cake-themed!) face and glitter painting.

The winner will be crowned on the bandstand at 3pm, and will receive the Cake Off glass trophy, specially commissioned by the BID with Monson Road creative Glass by Claudia. In partnership with the Tunbridge Wells Hotel, Pantiles, the winning business will also receive an overnight stay for two in the honeymoon suite. The victorious cake maker will also feature on the front cover of the July issue of local SO Magazine, as well as the BID’s own town centre publication: WWW.RTWTOGETHER.COM/MAGAZINE

RTW Together is the Business Improvement District for Royal Tunbridge Wells town, funded by, and working for, town centre businesses.

THE TUNBRIDGE WELLS HOTEL 58 THE PANTILES

“It’s great to have a Tunbridge Wells Cake Off – we’re practicing already, and hopefully we’ll compete strongly and do something lovely for the day. If it’s sunny we’ll do something fruit driven, and if it’s a bit colder we might go chocolate. The Jubilee is going to be fantastic, May and June are always, I think, the most beautiful summer months, hopefully the Queen turns out all chirpy, and will be celebrating, if not in Tunbridge Wells then somewhere equally Royal! Our plan for battle? Take everyone on and win!”

Fresh from the kiln, this beautiful design will be a proud piece for any town centre eaterie to display – but who will be its ultimate owner?

RTW Together is pleased to be cooking up support for local charity Nourish with the 2022 Cake Off – display cakes from the event will be collected by the food bank team at the end of the day and distributed

to Women’s Refuge and families who will benefit from them. We’ll also be fundraising, encouraging those using our free face painting and glitter stalls to make a suggested donation.

THE PANTILES CAFÉ

42 THE PANTILES

“We’ve been here around 4 and a half years now, and the owners are South African, so we do have a lot of variety on the menu, we try SA dishes here and there and see how popular they are! We’re really expanding our cake range, and use a local roastery for our coffee, and we’ll now be opening in the evenings on Thursdays and Fridays.

The Cake Off will bring lots of other local businesses to the Pantiles, and remind people what we have to offer, especially after Covid. Finding new cake and coffee is always good for the community!

My favourite type of cake? I really like a good carrot cake, with chunky carrot, sultanas and cinnamon, something a bit more fruity.”
