One more event to go in 2024!
We hope to see you and your friends in San Diego county at the end of September.
As we look back on the year, we have a lot of people to thank: Those who helped us with graphics and videos, those who hosted events, those who came to the events, those who lent their cattle or facilities to the event, those who invited friends and shared information… The list for events such as these is never ending.
We especially want to thank our sponsors. As a selffunding part of ANCW we know NONE of the success would be possible without our local and national sponsors. As always, please continue to thank those groups by supporting those who support our endeavors. Allflex, Axiota, Moly Manufacturing, and Merck Animal Health were our national sponsors this year.
Let’s make 2025 even better. We are looking for hosts sites for 2025. You can check out the WIRED toolkit online for details about submissions and the do’s and don’ts of putting on the best event possible. If you know of companies, ranches, or individuals who might be interested in sponsoring an event or signing up as a national sponsor, please let us know.
As always, the committee is always looking to improve so don’t hesitate to pick up the phone, text, or email with ideas, information, or criticism.

NCBA Live Cattle Marketing Report
Nikki Weston, UT
At the live Cattle Marketing Committee, Colin Woodall discussed the use of cameras in the meat grading process This technology was first used in 1978 and a subcommittee was formed in 1990 In 2009 technology was advanced enough that the first camera was used commercially in 2009 One benefit of camera grading is accuracy and consistency, allowing the playing field to obey level John Sitka presented a “Roadmap” to modernize the beef grading system The intent is: By 2030 facilitate universal adoption of a fully objective, technologically advanced beef carcass grading system implementedbytheindustryandoverseenbyUSDA-AMSvia100%remoteauditstoassureaccuracy, precision, andconsistencyacrossplants.
TheMercantileExchangewillperformaFeederCattleContractreviewnextyear
The USDA-AMS is creating an online dashboard containing Livestock Mandatory Reports containing regionalinformation, netpricingdistributionreports, andotherusefulinformation.Thedashboardwill beavailablesoon.
Kelsea Kemp discussed the Robinson-Patman Act 1936. The Robinson-Patman Act (RPA) is a federal lawpassedin1936thatpreventspricediscriminationandotherunfairbusinesspractices.Thelawwas created during the Great Depression to protect small businesses from being undercut by larger competitors.
TheRPAapplies tointerstate trade and commodities, but not services or leases.Itprohibitssellers from:Chargingdifferentpricestocompetingbuyersforthesamecommodityanddiscriminatinginthe provision of allowances, such as advertising, packaging, and credit returns, or treating competing customersdifferently.
The RPA also prohibits practices that could lessen competition, create monopolies, or injure competitors.Forexample, acarmanufacturerthatpaysrentforafavoreddealer'sfacilitybutnotfora disfavored dealer's facility could be violating the law. Another example is a dextrose producer who advertises that candy made by one of its large customers is "rich in dextrose" but not for its other customers

The National Beef Cook-Off was truly one of her most important and cherished legacies. In the end, she created a lasting and important beef promotion that still lives on today. EMPOWERING CATTLEWOMEN IN AG TECH: INSIGHTS FROM TECH HUB LIVE 2024

WendySrnic,VicePresident,Biotechnology, CortevaAgriscience
WendySrnic’spresentationhighlightedthe importanceof culture inthesuccessofmergers,
noting that 90% of mergers fail due to cultural mismatches. This insight is particularly valuable for cattlewomen who may be involved in or affected by the ongoing consolidation in agriculture Wendy emphasized Corteva’s role as one of the few tech companies in the country focusing on biotechnology, including GMO, plant breeding, and gene editing These technologies directly impact the feed and forage options available to cattle producers, especially with innovations like multi-disease resistant (MDR) corn Wendy’s advice was clear: don’t burn bridges in this small, interconnected world of agriculture you never know when you might need to collaborate with someone again

Joyce Hunter, Executive Director for Collaboration & Education, Mission Critical
Joyce Hunter brought a unique perspective, blending her background in sociology and marketing with a passion for protecting agriculture from “dirt to table.” For cattlewomen, she said we need to think like hackers to protect our operations and to stay ahead of potential threats She also emphasized the power of storytelling and consistency, a crucial aspect for ranchers looking to connect with consumers and policymakers alike Her advice to get a working group together for new ideas and execution is especially important for those of us navigating the complex world of ag policy and innovation (Tech Hub Continued)
