HOSPITALITY DESIGNINTB352

This course is the design and presentation of a team-based hospitality project with emphasis on innovation and creativity.

MISSION STATEMENT I wanted to do something different in designing this space, so I went with a different style of restaurant design. The feeling that I am trying to portray in designing this space is a feeling of relaxation and comfort. I want the space to feel like home, and appeal to the senses of each customer. The atmosphere and food will appeal to a large amount of people with diverse tastes and preferences. I will be bringing the outdoors in, while still keeping it elegant. It will be rustic establishment combined with soft luxurious fabrics. The food that will be served will be Irish-American cuisine, comfort food, and pub food. The design will incorporate a comfortable yet luxurious scene. It will be an Irish-American restaurant. The path I will take when designing McCreary’s is presenting a trendy spot that makes a statement. The earthy color scheme will stay true to old Ireland and complement the natural surfaces added.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS

Wild Irish Rose is located in an existing building in Chicago, Illinois. The inspiration behind it comes from the country of Ireland. The area is populated with many bars and restaurants so what sets Wild Irish Rose apart from all of the rest is that it is a trendy restaurant/nightclub in the morning, and a nightclub at night. Subtle hints of Ireland are included throughout the space. There is a rustic elegance seen in the space as well as in the greige color scheme that includes hints of orange and green. A green wall is incorporated so that the outside is brought in.

ThESIS 1ID420 Students develop their critical thinking skills through creative writing exercises and discussions on ethical practices, human behavior, and environmental psychology and emerge with their own philosophy of research and interior design. Emphasis is on “real world needs that could be better met through more responsible interior design and architecture. Content includes problem identiication, analysis of user needs, observation, and information gathering. Ultimately, a design program is prepared for a facility that will better support the psychological and physiological health, safety, and welfare of those who use the environment.

SENIOR STUDIO 2INTB422 Students select a subject based on their individual career aspirations and develop a project of a substantial scope. Emphasis is on real-world needs that could be better met through more responsible interior design and architecture. Content includes problem identiication, analysis of user needs, observation and information gathering. Ultimately a design program and schematic solution are prepared that will be further developed into a complete design solution in Senior Studio II for an interior environment that will better support the psychological and physiological health, safety and welfare of the public

Elephants are known to have relationships that are similar to humans. Elephant families will sometimes divide, due to factors such as lack of food. However, the families will remain together to some extent. They will meet at the watering holes and feeding areas and will appear happy to see each other. The herd is led by the matriarch and the other females make sure that the calves are surrounded and protected as the elephant herd travels. Elephants value their family structure and are known to be outgoing and sociable, and even shown to have lifelong bonds that last over long distances and time frames. (Andrew).

RENDERINGID211 In this course, surface textures, reflections, and apparent volume of space and objects are represented through exercises with mixed media and various rendering techniques including computer software applications. Students interpret actual materials and inishes to eficiently and effectively represent them within floor plans, sketches, details, and interior perspectives. Accuracy in applying the properties of color balance and distribution are factors that contribute to successful solutions.

PEN AND INK SKETCHES AND MARKER RENDERING We created a strong line drawing and then sketched in details with pen and ink. Since this sketch is the foundation for your work, it’s important that it is well done. Re-attempting the sketch a few times is a normal part of the process. We added some color with markers in areas of shadow but left other areas of the drawing blank. Doing this added more depth to the drawing later and gave a sense of reflection. We placed ink where we wanted viewers to focus. As we applied color, we added shadow with warm gray using the markers. Also, we added additional color to key points of focus. We considered using multiple tones of the same color, and blended the colors with those we added earlier; still we left some areas uncolored for a visual break. The lighting was created using a white, cream and orange colored pencil and then lighting techniques were added in photoshop, including a lens flare/dodge and burn.

MARDI GRAS INSPIRED COLOR SCHEME STREETS OF ORLEANS MARDI GRA MASK

MARDI GRA BEADS: BY CLAUDIA LYNCH

Design concept The design goal that I had was to create a universally designed space that many different people can access. hy and prevent sickness. Plants that were added contribute to maintain clean indoor air quality. The rooms are united by using the same materials, manufacturer, and furniture in multiple rooms.

Symbolism, regionalism, and global awareness

Social and cultural influences or political and economic conditions/community awareness

My selected geographic location’s culture, history, and vernacular style

Agriculture influences are prominent in East Carroll Parish. For this reason, I decided to implement as much of the outdoors as I could in the space.

Hierarchy and target audience The target audience is a high poverty community.

Mardi Gras is an integral part of Louisiana and a well-known part of Lousiana’s culture. I wanted to incorporate it into my design.

The location that I am choosing for my project is East Carroll Parish, Louisiana. It is in the North-East area of Louisiana. East Carroll Parish is a parish, which is also known as a county in other states. Lake Providence is the parish seat of East Carroll Parish, which means it is the administrative center.

TEXTILES

FLOORING CONCEPT STATEMENT The design at Wexler will pay homage to the lavish heart of Louisiana by incorporating bold colors. Muted colors will be used in the private areas. The Mardi Gras color scheme will be used to create motion and to move attention throughout the space. The rooms will be uniied by the use of clean lines represented in the furniture pieces selected. The latest technology will be provided in this state of the art facility. The overall design will incorporate a universal design approach. Eco friendly materials will be used throughout the space to stay true to the culture of East Carroll Parish.
