I
can’t remember a time where aesthetic was not part in my life. I grew up in a family where getting inspired and learning through art, dance, travel was a constant lifestyle. Since I was a kid, I wander in flea markets to find a rare object, bring back from travelling local arts and souvenirs– its an habit that I still have today and my interiors are a reflect of my personality – a mix match of my life.
When I moved to Chicago in 2013, I took some time off to better understand what is my real passion. I decided to pursue a changing career program with a certificate in Interior Design at the School of Art Institute. I realized back then that my love for interiors, my interest in travel and culture, my constant research for inspiration wherever I could, act as a foundation and a continual influence on my daily basis.
After studying marketing and merchandising management in France and working in various industries as a marketing analyst– my life took a turn five years ago. I left a comfortable life in Paris and moved to Chile for love. Love for my husband and love for change.
When I discovered styling, I found the path to turn a lifelong passion into a career. I decided, with this portfolio, to tell a story my own interior design and styling approach. Each place has a story to tell - each person has its own vision - and this is where I find inspiration.

MY VISION OF DESIGN
Interior Design Every single detail is part of the design- it is what makes a project coherent and turns it into a greater concept. What I love the most in the interior design process is the scenography aspect. To be able to design a space which make you dream, where every details are important. I really love prints that I mix together with rich graphic elements and colors. This enables me to give some character to a space. I like to mix many different aesthetics together in the most unexpected way. Some are contemporary pieces, some are also found in antiques. I use and play with of a lot of French aesthetics, but I also got inspired by exterior influences.

MY VISION OF DESIGN
Prop Stylism When its come to home styling, my main concern is to create a certain degree of eclectic whimsy, always intertwining elements of old and storied with the new. I try to bring my love of color, vintage treasures and adventure to my work. The day I discovered Wes Anderson’s universe was a life changer. I was amazed that every set was detailed as a postcard. Every color, pattern had been chosen to give this romantic visual style where the decor tells a story by himself. This is how I came to stylism. My work tends to reflect my obsession with materials and texture, and will always have a bit of patina, with the layering of natural elements and an antique or two. Travel is also a major pathway to inspiration and concept development. Through home and prop stylism - I would love to inspire people and customers, to tell a story through my composition.

ARO/MA
A MODERN APOTHECARY A concept store dedicated to flowers
Aro/ma was designed as a flower shop where you can discover new plants and learn how to build bouquets through weekly workshop. The project is a renovation of a former police station, located at 4461 N. Pulaski- Chicago, IL. The building is made of masonry and concrete, with limestone panels on the north, south, and west faรงades.
FLOOR PLAN
C O N C E P T - Located in the main street of Edgewater, this space is composed of a sale area, a technical room, restrooms and a storage room. This rectangular shaped space is pretty dark - only one window illuminates the whole space. I wanted the flowers and plants to be the foundation of the space. The tile floor, wallpapers and furnitures are made of natural materials - a simple concept to reveal the essence and the beauty: of flowers. I N S P I R A T I O N - I believe that flower shops are places meant to be joyful and
welcoming - places where you go to treat yourself or to make a gift. I wanted the customer to enter a warm atmosphere as soon as he comes in - I wanted to play with colors and patterns while offering more storage space - I was inspired by old apothecary shop where every plant has a purpose - the furniture concept is inspired by Aesop - wooden boxes as storage. In Aro/ma - hidden drawers will give the idea of a modern apothecary.

L A Y O U T - The window is the first “view� you will have entering the store- an open shelf made of plywood will exhibit bell glass jars, once again, to highlight the apothecary concept. On the left side of the store stand the sales counter - a plywood piece of furniture that can be open for workshop or bouquets composition (see right page.) The cut flowers section will be located at the end of this wall - far enough from the natural light. The wallpaper will be creating an intimate atmosphere, dedicated only to flowers. On the right side will be lying the plants area, with additional goods such as candles, ceramic work, stationery..etc.. Connecting those two spaces, a low shelf will be stacked with plants holders, vases and wickers baskets...

Modular Furnitures All the furniture in the store will be in plywood and handmade in order to keep rehearsing the concept while having furnitures that can be modular (a plant holder can become a storage box, a sale desk can become a workshop table.) The concept is made of simple rectangular shape which can transform into a storage console and a workshop table..
The drawing below shows how the sales desk can be transformed into a workshop desk. Hidden drawers can easily been open to have access to more storage. The top of the drawer includes a sliding work plan that can be open and close pretty easily and will give more space to work during flowers bouquet workshop..

THE MONKEY’S PAW
AN AMERICAN RESTAURANT WITH A TWIST When a piece of furniture inspires me This project is a redesign of a ground floor restaurant space located at 2524 North Southport in Chicago- IL. The client wants a new and exciting restaurant design. They are open to any kind of style and themes. They have already picked the name the Monkey’s Paw for the restaurant.

C O N C E P T - The Monkey’s Paw will be serving traditional American food - This space will be dedicated to a young and dynamic customer. profile This space is made of two different areas -that I splitted into a bar area at the main entrance, and a restaurant area on the back. I wanted to give each space its own visual identity, with very different designs, depending if you are having a drink at the bar or having lunch at the restaurant. The bar area will be offering a variety of seats- from the design bar stools, a wooden banquette - to more traditional velvet sofas and chairs. The design will have the essence of a male and calm vibe: dark color palette, wooden furniture, velvet sofas and chairs. The restaurant area, on the contrary, has a more refreshing and girly look. Pink asphalt walls- yellow stools bar- big mirrors- a concept that will be in opposition with the bar concept, but will be linked through the same use of materials and furniture. (see below)

Those two areas will be unified through the floor, lighting pendants and seats: a faux marble tile floor and mosaic tiles floor unique to all the space; bubble lighting on all ceilings and custom made wooden seat box that can be found in both areas.
I N S P I R AT I O N The main thought when I started the design of this restaurant and bar was born from the idea of the wooden seat box - I love the idea that the furniture is the main concept and that I could play with it while designing two different atmospheres. I find it challenging to create different concepts within the same space- almost contradictory- but that can still create consistency as a whole. Each design could have been made for one space - I decided to bring them together while playing on their contrats.

RESIDENTIAL project
RESIDENTIAL PROJECT MASTER BATHROOM A contemporary design One of the many challenges of designing any interior space is the need to be able to think aesthetically as well as functionally. The bathroom design requires a clear understanding of acceptable clearances, location of utilities and a sensibility of materials.
FLOOR PLANS
CONCEPT The objective of the project is to design a new master bathroom which is part of a master bedroom in a 2 bedrooms condominium. It is approximately 7’-6” x 17’-6”. The plumbing wall can be located on either of the long walls. The bathroom must have 2 lavatories, 1 water closet and a shower or tub. The bathroom space has been separated in 3 areas: the restroom closed by a sliding door, the lavatories, and an Italian shower. As this room is facing north, a glass wall has been added as a door to allow the light to come in- It adds also a contemporary design touch that the client was looking for. ISOMETRIC ROOM VIEW 24

The main issue of this space is the lack of light. The choice of materials (glossy tiles), the colors palette, the fixing and decor (big mirrors), all have been chosen to light up this space and reflect the light.

A NEW WAY OF STYLE hOME TOUR IN CHICAGO
I
believe that being an home stylist begins with being inspired by the people who live in the space you work on. Each person has its own personality, its own soul that is reflected through its interior.
That is the reason why I wanted to concluded my portfolio with a part dedicated to interiors and lifestyle of modern and urban families in Chicago. This home tour take us from Logan square to Printer’s Row- two of the 77 Chicago neighborhoods- to enter the intimacy of this new generation of families - to explore their own inspiration in decoration and styling.

LOGAN SQUARE Hello Stephanie, can you introduce yourself? Hi! I am Stephanie, a French girl living in Chicago, for 2 years 1/2 with my family: Pablo, my husband, Ella, our 6 months daughter and Jane our big dog! When I arrived, I switch my career from Marketing in the TV industry to Yoga Instructor and I am so grateful for what I do now.
This multi cultural family chose Logan Square to establish their home sweet home. This gigantic apartment is full of lights and colors. Stephanie collected all kind of souvenir from different travel, spiritual retreat and show them under different niches all around her place.

How long have you been living in this apartment? Why did you choose this neighborhood? Very shortly after arriving in Chicago we found this apartment, it was love at first sight. Tons of light, big living room, fireplace and an outdoor space, all that we needed. Some French friends recommended the neighborhood, we knew we could trust them after what they described: charming houses, parks, independent and creative shops and restaurants, vibrant neighborhoods spirit as we like it in Europe. What object in your home do you prefer? Besides all my little souvenirs from around the world, I love the large
things found and up-cycled, and our original furniture from Paris! We love to mix and match. Vintage and minimal contemporary styles. Flashy colors next to simple wood. Sometimes I think my interior is too much like an alibaba cavern but at least ever corner has a story to tell . My husband an I are both involved in the decoration, he likes to craft things and I am crazy about plants. How to combine great decoration and family life?
How did you think your interior? Are you the one who decorates your place? We moved here with several big loved pieces, armchair, wooden table, lot of small decorative souvenirs with long stories and books, so we arranged the space here mixing new purchases,
I think creating some spaces dedicated for your children, where you know they can be free and play is very important. Ella can spread her toys all around, but contained in a specific place you choose, like her room of course but also a corner of our living room. She can be physically close to us and a real part of our family lifestyle. Finding nice containers like baskets or chests to hold/hide the toys when you don’t use them can help maintaining a great decor.

What is missing in your home? Our space is big but with very little spaces to store. And we miss a VERY comfortable sofa as well. We’ve been saving for years to say “YES” when we will find a real couch-crush ! Where do you shop for your interior? We like modern brands like Cb2, or for more bohemian style Urban Outfitters, Anthropology. I can find little decor items everywhere even at antique store or garage sales! Great spots to neighborhood?

Pilar, Eduardo and Mathilda This Spaniard family lives in the heart of South Loop since 2012. Their home is a great reference to this dynamic and vibrant neighborhood - a open space full of light and energy, with the CTA train as an aesthetic background.

Hi Pilu, who are you? I am from Madrid and I’ve been living in Chicago for 5 years. I am a Design & Innovation Strategist. I’m now focused on building up my consultancy practice around Culture and the Future of Work. How long have you been living apartment? Why did you choose this neighborhood?

We live in Printers Row, which is a neighborhood in downtown that used to be an area with printers and paper industries. Now those industrial buildings are lofts. So it looked like the right match for us. Plus it is very convenient. We are walking distance from the lake, few parks, groceries, mostly every single color of the CTA trains and some restaurants (I wish we had more!!). Edu’s work is just 10 minutes ride.. I moved straight from
Madrid to this apartment 5 years ago. Edu, found it while I was still in Spain. We’ve always wanted to live in a loft,and we fell in love with the red brick wall with huge windows, the light and the big open space. What are your decor inspirations?/ How do you define your interior style? I don’t even know if I have an interior style! and if I do, it probably evolves with my experiences and learnings. In general I would say that I like clean and fresh spaces where I can mix old things and vintage with modern and straight lines. I tend to embrace imperfection as an excuse to be messy!. I like to change colors often and we both love art so I like to have neutral colors and natural materials for the furniture and then play with some colors and a lot of art.

In general I always have in mind the north of Spain with its simple life near the sea, the rough wood, and those grey days. I also get inspired by design (from typography to simple forms and colors), fashion and the old classics. I love the Bauhaus, The Eames and a lot of novel artists that I find mostly thanks to Edu. If you are asking about sources of inspiration. Instagram for me is a gem to explore, I never remember the source (I know too bad). Some brands like Loreak Mendiant. A lot of artists and designers, some interior blogs such Socialite Family,

have in mind the north of Spain with its simea, the rough wood, and those grey days. Where do you spend most of the time in your apt? Well, this is an open space so, we are usually in the living area. I work from home most of the time, so the dining table is my office too. On one hand I love how an open space brings the family together and you learn how to be along while being together. On the other hand, I really want some walls and intimacy! Did your interior changed since you have kid? Of course! First of all we have a den that used to be a studio for Edu. Now it’s Matilda’s bedroom. So the living room/space is now studio, office, dinning and living room, and a playroom! I kind of like a home with kids stuff at sight but without taking over the whole space. Sometimes it’s difficult to keep that balance in a loft. Where do you shop for your interior? Ikea, Cb2, Craiglist and Amazon for furniture. I search a lot, but I always end up there because of the prices. I also like Etsy, Urban Outfitters, HM home, Zara Home and Anthropology. But what I love the most is my mom’s. I always bring from Spain something from her house. As for the art pieces we usually go straight to the artist. This year I discovered The Jaunt and I love it!

What is missing in your home? Tons of things! A lamp and a rug or two for the living room. New pillows for the winter. A table to replace the one I don’t like from Ikea. And I’m craving for a neon, a big cactus and a nice glassware. I’d also like a makeover of the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom! Do you have a ‘very non-expensive object’ that you’re proud of? We tend to go cheap, specially since we are living in Chicago. But if I have to choose… I’d say the dinning chairs. I bought them at Amazon, for half of the price! I also love couple of vintage tables that the owner of the apartment left when she moved out! Who is your favourite designer? I´m really bad with names. I know what I like but I usually don’t care too much about names, too bad I know. I’m a huge fan of the Eames, though, probably more because of the their revolutionary approach to design and their process, than for their designs themselves. Your favourite Chicago? Why?

I haven’t decided yet. Or better said it depends what for! For spending the day: Bucktown, Logan and Wicker. Love the small town vibe and calm streets with beautiful houses. For an architecture delight: downtown. I still get amazed when a walk through the river or when I’m at the Lurie Garden at Millennium Park. For a ride: I love the West Loop for its industrial look. For “I wish I could live here”… Lincoln park for being close to the lake, downtown and its amazing streets and houses.

Meet Eduardo Eduardo, Pilu’s husband is the artist in this home. Several paintings, drawings of him are hang on the living room. “I love lettering and calligraphy, that´s why a lot of the work I paint has messages or letters in it. Also, I do copy writing work and come up with ideas and concepts for brands in an advertising agency.

But messing around with paint is what I like most. I believe there is art in every object. For this reason, I like painting over found materials giving them a second opportunity. When you take it out of context, those objects or simply modify them, you can create something completely new. You just need to look at them differently. “
