The Glass Series by Marcin Rusak will be presented at PAD by Sarah Myerscough Gallery. The collection, exclusive to the gallery, comprises of uniquely handmade glass vessels inlayed with flowers and leaves that have been turned to ash during the glass blowing process. This series has come out of a collaborative project between the designer and glass blowers in the Czech Republic. ‘Working with organic materials, there can be natural irregularities and openings on the glass surface which should be seen as valuable and unique characteristics of handmade work’. -Marcin Rusak

Flower Infused Glass Vessels Interested in process and material investigation, Marcin Rusak, known for his flower infused resin Flora collection, has realised a new series of glass vessels. These vessels aim to highlight the artistic expression found within the technical and intricate process of glass blowing. After weeks of experimenting with talented glass blowers in the Czech Republic, Marcin developed a new technique in which natural flowers and leaves are turned to ash during the glass blowing process. The patterns and shapes of the stems and petals are then sealed in the glass, whilst the ash finish takes on a painterly quality, varying from brown to blues tones. The objects are statement sculptural works, capturing the expressive essence of working with natural materials and traditional glass blowing processes.

Marcin Rusak was born in 1987 Warsaw, Poland. He now lives and works in London Marcin situates his work at the intersection of value, ephemerality and aesthetics. He studies contemporary patterns of consumption, industry methods of manipulation, and the complicated systems we support. In his pursuit of authenticity, Marcin creates work that asks questions, references history and proposes possible future scenarios. Utilising the power of materials, volume and form he moves fluid- ly from decorative art objects to sculptures, two dimensional work and back again each time with a story as his guide.Marcin has a background in both humanities (BA from European Studies from University of Warsaw) and art programmes such as Man and Living at the conceptual Eindhoven Design Academy, Netherlands as well as receiving an MA in Design Products from London’s Royal College of Arts.
