WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE LEADERSHIP TRAIT?

2

Compassion and understanding because you need to be able to understand all type of people and different points of view - Emmie Erwin, Guyer President I believe the most valuable leadership characteristic would be passionate. When somebody is passionate about something, they are inclined to be more diligent, goal oriented, and caring towards whatever project their role entails. Passion drives leaders, and without this passion, they’re never going to be a leader followers can rely on. - Bella Plaza, Guyer Vice President The most valuable leadership characteristic is honesty, because you can’t work with someone that you can’t trust, and you always want to feel comfortable that you are working towards the same goal. - Mitchell Warnock, Denton Vice President

The most valuable leadership character is ambition: setting goals, learning, making sure your club is better than when you first joined it. It's what sets leaders apart from followers and allows them to initiate change. - Mati Rigsby, Gainesville President

Falling in Love with Key Club Written by Paige Farley 4

Falling in Love with Key Club by Paige Farley

The specific moment that I first fell in love with Key Club was during my freshman year. I was not interested in Key Club at the beginning of the year, but my mom is the advisor, so I attended DCON with her and the rest of the club. Instead of just sitting in the hotel rooms all day, I went to forums. When I got in my first forum, I was overwhelmed with the number of kids that I did not know at all that came up to me and introduced themselves. I sat down and I got to know some the people around me when we played icebreakers. I remember the first small group we split up into, it was 6 people and we had 6 minutes to put a puzzle together. It was kind of stressful, but it was definitely a good bonding experience. In the next forum, we did yoga. It was really uncomfortable at first, but then we all gradually

began to be more comfortable with each other, and we were all just laughing the whole time. That was my second forum and I was really starting to love the group as a whole. The first meal with the whole group was really where I was starting to feel that I needed to be a part of this organization. It was so neat to see all of the District Officers come together on stage and speak. They talked about all of the projects they had worked on over the year and it was inspiring to see everything that just our district does. I knew that they were making an impact and that I wanted to help. After district convention, I went home and my club had officer elections. I ran for webmaster and I got it. I started our Twitter page and I fell in love with informing everyone about what was going on. While at my first District Convention, I also solidified

my relationships with friends that went with my club. Two of my closest friends today are with ones I grew closer with at DCON. The idea of serving the community and the world around me really intrigued me, and has helped me decide what I want to do in college. Falling in love with Key Club has opened up a whole new world of service opportunities and put so much joy into my heart. Working with the children in my community is not only benefiting them, but it also benefits and blesses me in the most wonderful way. This organization is one that I hold dear to my heart, and plan to carry with me for the rest of my life. I thank everyone that makes it possible for me to serve because it led me to the best organization and the best people that I have ever met.
