The Town of Telluride
is like a small urban environment living in the body of a charming alpine village. Nestled below striking vertical peaks, the magnificent valley is comprised of a quaint 16-block-long by six-block-wide grid where streets are typically a blizzard of activity. Children walk to and from school, dogs accompany owners to the bank and post office, friends bump into each other on virtually every corner, and anything can be tackled on foot or by bicycle. In Telluride, a cup of coffee and the morning paper are never more than a five-minute jaunt away; and neither is the ski resort, as two lifts and the Gondola — the innovative people-mover connecting Telluride and Mountain Village — rise up right from town. Additionally, whether one needs an ATM, wifi, a quick snack, or a birthday card, just about everything is available on, or adjacent to, Main Street, Telluride’s lively epicenter.
Telluride was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1964 and takes its architectural standards very seriously — old structures are meticulously preserved, while new construction is monitored by strict and careful guidelines. As a result, Telluride’s residential homes all share a Victorian trend that’s traditional for some, contemporary for others, and its commercial district is a colorful display of restored and recreated western storefronts. And through this thoughtfully laid out floor plan, Telluride captures the bustling energy of any city neighborhood, yet pads it in a safe and neatly packaged, friendly little town. In fact, some might even go as far as to say that the cozy Telluride valley resembles a large family as homes are lined closely together, neighbors chat across balconies, and the mountains above serve as a communal backyard enjoyed by everyone.
220 North Oak Street // $10,900,000
Originally constructed in 1891, this residence in the heart of the Historic District was purchased in 1976 and artfully restored and enlarged in 1991 by its current owner/designer/builder. Its late-Victorian-era front gabled plan with canted bay on its façade, is architecturally significant for Telluride’s residential development in the late 1800s. Its location, on two lots with mature trees and lush landscaping, affords ample solitude on Telluride’s most coveted street. Less than one and a half blocks from commercial core shopping and dining, and three and a half blocks to the Gondola, 220 North Oak offers the convenience of downtown living with quality of life in a residential setting. Its east-west orientation offers the residence excellent solar exposure and exceptional view corridors of the ski resort to the south and Telluride peaks to the east from a 1-bedroom plus loft guest house over a 2-car garage. The main residence floorplan embraces 6 bedrooms (master with two decks facing east and south), 4 baths, 4 south- and west-facing decks, den/office and free-flowing kitchen, living and dining spaces. A billiards room and rec room with wet bar partially occupy nearly 1,400 square feet in a fully-finished basement with endless possibilities for media/game rooms.

Mountain Village
is a spectacular neighborhood filled with big backyards and winding, tree-lined streets. Homes have privacy, yet are close enough together for neighbors to share the day’s events in the driveway or pass each other on a morning jog. In winter, skiers and snowboarders pull right off the slopes and up to their doorsteps, while on summer days kids toss footballs in the road without having to worry about traffic. As one of Colorado’s youngest communities, incorporated as a town and home-rule municipality in 1995, Mountain Village rests on the northern end of sunny Turkey Creek Mesa, encompassing more than 2,100 acres of forested mountainside.
Prior to earning its very own spot on the map, the town underwent a significant research, development and design phase, having been conceptualized as a ski resort village for more than a dozen years. From there, a cobblestone pedestrian plaza at the base of the ski resort became the bustling Village Core, lined with boutiques, restaurants, hotels, spas, fire pits, bouldering area and skating rink. In addition, the Village Core is home to the state-of-the-art Telluride Conference Center, Telluride Ski & Golf Company’s headquarters, the Ski & Snowboard School, three chair lifts, and the Gondola — the transportation system linking Telluride and Mountain Village together in a stunning 13-minute ride. Surrounding the core of town is the 18-hole Telluride Championship Golf Course, as well as beautiful alpine residences that abut both the golf course and ski area. Mountain Village is renowned for its panoramic vistas and elegant sophistication with new developments and amenities popping up constantly, the most recent of which includes a new grocery store, post office and several new hotels.
