CHIHULY:  ROTOLO November 14–December 24, 2013

With this exhibition, Dale Chihuly introduces a new series of sculptural artworks. The Rotolo series is a celebration of duality. Using just a single color, and sometimes only clear glass, Chihuly forms curvaceous tendrils out of thick glass, pairing the visual opulence of his iconic Venetians with a hyper-refined color palette. Layering, draping, and wrapping, the forms appear to rise like flames suspended in motion, some reaching as high as five feet—yet for all the drama, they are surprisingly quiet, steadfast, and strong. The work is physical; the gestures are pure, and in their stark lack of color and decoration, they are a celebration of form, material, and the very processes that yield them. It is astounding to see an artist so established in his career continue to push the boundaries of his medium. Through his continued vision and innovation, Chihuly has been at the leading edge of the Studio Glass movement for more than forty years. Traver Gallery is proud to exhibit these new works for the first time, and to give you, our clients and friends, the opportunity to be the first to see the new Rotolo series. Congratulations, Chihuly, on this extraordinary new body of work.

“ Working on my new series, Rotolo, rekindled my excitement for working with clear glass. I was really amazed by the complexity and brilliance of the form, which started from a simple coil.” —DALE CHIHULY
