The projects included in this portfolio is my gradual progress towards successful development and improvement. Each of my professional and academic experience is a reflection of my past background - rooting from diverse cultures of Sweden and Canada. Through curiosity I am passionate about learning further about global issues and addressing humanitarian challenges through architecture. Always wondering how we can catalyze growth in our present communities to help improve the ones who need it through collaboration, sharing of knowledge and the energy to make change through rational design for others.

Bloor & Spadina, Toronto Internship at architectsAlliance Supervisor: Adam Feldmann Summer 2014
This project is an upcoming high-rise condominium located on Bloor and Spadina, downtown Toronto. It will be placed directly over the Spadina subway line. I assisted the architect by researching the TTC system for their hand drawn technical subway drawings and translated into a 3D ArchiCad model to create study diagrams and technical drawings.

Internship at architectsAlliance Supervisors: Heather Rolleston & Rob Cadeau Summer 2014 This project is a large mixed-use development project spanning across 14 acres. The project is being developed in two phases and will consist of a large number of condominium units built above 800,000 square feet of retail space and parking garage. I had several team members in this project but specialized mostly in the interior planning and design of the residential units and sales centre. The client specifically requested for FENDI Casa interior furniture in which I independently designed each unit and sales centre.

The goal of this project was to design a mid-rise apartment building. This location is engaging because of the GO railroad to the west and Earlscourt Park to the east. The intention of the design is to complement these two opposing programs yet create a center for public gathering and intimate residential dwellings. Through the use of public art and an offset building, I created a welcoming plaza for people to enter and gather. The ground floor is a complete public space. The interior has an evocative grand stair which develops into a public program of commercial space, and amenity space.

Interstitial Spaces, Cambridge
University of Waterloo 1B, 2014 Team Members: Antonia Stanev, Joel Tremblay, Nicholas Frayne, Philippe Fournier This project is sited downtown Cambridge along the Grand River. Through a pathway framed by a trellis system, the project links autonomous units together, creating a sense of community and life in this left-out corner of Cambridge. Intention was to create a comfortable and welcoming community for the students to gather and feel a home away from home.

Toledo in Cambridge - A Paradoxical Public Space
South Elevation
University of Waterloo 2A Team Members: Ivee Wang, Gabriela Diamond, Ethan Shwartz, Alison McNeil 2014 This research project asked to compare the public spaces of the Glass Pavilion in Toledo and Food Basics in Cambridge. While these sites are different in size and cultural importance, their respective public spaces have much in common Included here shows there paradoxes of human vs non-human and privacy vs publicity. A site would not exist without the existence of both human aspects such as street infrastructure and the non-human, such as the ecology of the site. By separating the “streetscape” and “greenscape” apart it’s evident how the two complement and contrast one another.

DESIGN COMPETITION
Promontory Point Park, Chicago
SSEF Steel Competition: CircuitSpace University of Waterloo 1B 2014 Team Member: Danny Wei
Inspired by the curvilinear feathers of a gravitational wormhole, a span of time and space, this steel pavilion becomes a retreat and alternate detour from regular pedestrian trail. The structure spans over water, creating an elevated space between two ground points. During the day, the purity of the form is defined with the smooth steel and polypropylene. During night, however, the silhouette of the steel diagrid in combination with people occupying the space creates a duality in simplicity and complexity of the pavilion

Annual Wind Speed
[SHELL]TER OASIS University of Waterloo 1B Laos, Prabang 2014
This environmental design project sought out to explore the experiential context of architecture. My intention for the project was to create a sense of safety and protection through the design of a shell. These “shellters are designed with many different layers that allow the occupant to adjust, raise, lower, tilt depending on the current weather and their accommodation. The outer retractable shell acts like a wall to change wind speed and direction, and protection against insects and sunlight. Another layer can be lowered for privacy at night. A rain water collector at rear of shell gathers rain through filtration system. Providing clean water for resident. These spaces do not obstruct the environment but instead blend within which creates a poetic environment for both people, animals and nature. Sectional

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AT UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO
Integrated system within each plate
Research Project: DYV-NET JAPA ARCHITECTS University of Waterloo 1B 2014
The DYV-Net infrastructure is an overall innovative concept which uses a network of hydroponic vertical farming to prevent future food shortages in several cities around China. This solves China’s problem of limited space for producing and farming food as well as the excessive amount of pollution that results from food transportation mileage. The structure uses shifting systems inside floor plates, allowing crops to rotate for sunlight during day. I enjoyed this research study because I learned how it is possible to explore the new paradigm shift of vertical agriculture and how it can be integrated into city life. This saves land and limits transportation pollution. For this project I remodeled the structure and researched possible and different kinds of systems for hydroponic plumbing.

This conceptual space involves the contrast between enclosure, and openness, light and dark and the transitional experience of a person walking through this architecture. This project was chosen to be part of the Building 22 publication showcasing Carleton’s outstanding designs. This project is sited right along the Rideau River on the Carleton Campus. This design was inspired by the Philips Pavilion by Le Corbusier. This hyperbolic shape fits into the site by becoming a shelter, a place of repose, and an interactive spot for students passing by.

Site Visits Photography & Research Internship at architectsAlliance Summer 2014
The highlights and most informative moments of my internship at aA were the site visits and research projects. While going on these visits I captured several detail images and creative photographs which enforces my understanding of structures and design. These images are of the 2015 PanAm/Parapan Games Athletes’ Village in the Canary District of Toronto. This is a mix-use development that will provide affordable housing and market housing as well as serve residence for George Brown College after the games.

This series of photographs are from a three tower complex located downtown Toronto (York Street at Bremnner Boulevard). Tower 1 consists of entirely offices, transparent and an innovative “double-skinned building which controls solar gain. Tower 2 and 3 remain residential, sculpted in a way to frame panorama views of the Toronto Lake. The base of each tower is connected in a link of surrounding public promenades, bridges, walkways creating an entirely new urban plaza. The circular shaped openings are built to be green roofs, allowing light to enter through to the plaza proving light for people and nature.
