Towards the end of the four-year siege of Sarajevo, in 1995, Obala Art Centar initiated the Sarajevo Film Festival with the aim of helping to reconstruct civil society and retain the cosmopolitan spirit of the city. Today, two decades later, the Sarajevo Film Festival is the leading film festival in the region, recognized by both film professionals and the wider audience. The Sarajevo Film Festival is an international film festival with a special focus on the region of South-East Europe and Southern Caucasus (Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo*, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey), shining an international spotlight on films, talent and future projects from the region.
Competition Programme - Feature and Short Film presents a diversity of cinematic creation in Southeast Europe and Southern Caucasus. It brings powerful films with strong directors’ viewpoints, and it either discovers new talents, or confirms young but already established filmmakers with new and fresh ideas. The red carpet event is especially created to honour the creativity of regional artists on whom the Festival’s prestige depends.

In Focus is a showcase of exceptional regional films which have already made considerable success at prestigious film festivals worldwide.
Open Air offers art-house films with a wide audience appeal and an unforgettable experience of watching films under the stars on the biggest screen in the region. Its sidebar programme Coffee With hosts guests of the Open Air through series of live interviews attended by the audience and the media.
Tribute to... is dedicated to the authors whose uncompromising creative outlooks brought down many taboos in film and society alike, and attracted great attention of both the audiences and the media. Kinoscope is the programme that comprises both narrative and documentary films from around the globe, excluding the Southeastern European territories. The focus is on distinctive titles marked out for their mise-en-scene. The programme takes in great auteurs as well as first and second time filmmakers.
European Shorts presents some of the most talented emerging filmmakers, alongside Regional Shorts competing for the Best European Film Nomination Award. The editorial line of the programme presents filmmakers taking on various creative challenges while exploring the potential of the short film form.
Children’s programme and Teenarena aids the education of the Festival`s youngest audiences and instills love for films in our future generations. The programmes screen a variety of carefully selected European films dealing with topics relevant for children and teenagers.
Sarajevo Film Festival Partner Presents Through partnership with the Doha Film Institute the programme presents films by Arab filmmakers, showcasing the most notable titles from the past 12 months.
Sarajevo Film Festival Guests Present This programme showcases films curated by the programmers of the world film festivals who had been given “carte blanche”.
Operation Kino approaches target audiences, bringing new and diverse cinema experiences through tailor made activities, related to the promotion and understanding of films, with significant results in the development of wider audiences and new generation of talents. The project reaches out to more than 40 cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina, bringing a part of the Sarajevo Film Festival programme and atmosphere to audiences throughout the whole year. Our aim is to attract and engage encouraged film lovers eager to expand their knowledge through different models and approaches. INDUSTRY The business of film is the focus of the second half of the Sarajevo Film Festival and putting the Southeast Europe’s film industry in the international focus is what it is all about. This is when, for over a decade now, the international film industry hits the town for five days of meetings, conferences, showcases and extensive networking.

Additionally, guest projects are presented in partnership with the Doha Film Institute and other international partners.
CineLink Work in Progress continuously showcases future success stories on the festival circuit. A limited number of brand new exciting titles in post-production stage is shown to specifically invited international decision-makers. This section is also open to projects from Central Asia and the North African and Middle Eastern countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. At the Docu Rough Cut Boutique, 5 thrilling documentary projects are provided with high-quality training in a safe environment, bespoke meetings with top professionals and presentations to key decision makers from the documentary film arena. Our industry focused programmes offer award funds totalling more than EUR 150,000 in cash and services and boosts an impressive track record with previous projects going on to ma-

Regional Forum is the major annual conference for the film industry in the region, tackling the key issues and setting up future policy trends. Launched last year, Sarajevo City of Film Fund aims at galvanising co-production and distribution between Southeast Europe and global, international partners. Sarajevo City of Film Fund has a budget of approximately EUR 500,000 for the 2015-2016 period, and has been put into place thanks to generous financial contributions of Atlantic Grupa, Creative Europe MEDIA sub-programmes support to international coproduction funds and an investment from the Sarajevo Film Festival. It has two support schemes: International coproduction scheme and P&A support scheme, both focusing on opening new markets for Southeast Euroepan filmmakers outside of geographical Europe. Submissions are open year round from February 2015 until October 2016.
Talents Sarajevo The programme was launched in 2007 in collaboration with Berlin International Film Festival and Berlinale Talents. Over the past nine years Talents Sarajevo has established itself as the meeting hub for aspiring film professionals from Southeast Europe and Southern Caucasus. The 2016 edition will gather 70 emerging actors, directors, DoPs, film critics, producers and screenwriters for an intensive week of master classes, debates, screenings, various networking and training opportunities. Participants will meet their peers, exchange views with seasoned international and regional film professionals, take part in the lab-based environment, enter filmmaking collaborations with fellow participants and enjoy the programme of the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival.
