A NEW FILM BY ROMANIAN DIRECTOR CRISTI PUIU IS COPRODUCED WITH ’’PRODUKCIJA SARAJEVO 2006’’ After the film SIERANEVADA in 2016, which was in the official selection of the 69th Cannes Film Festival, Sarajevobased production house ‘’Produkcija Sarajevo 2006’’ from Bosnia and Herzegovina and its producer Mirsad Purivatra joined forces again with famous Romanian filmmaker Cristi Puiu in his new film MALMKROG. The film MALMKROG has been selected in the new competition section of the Berlinale, Encounters, and the world premiere of this film will officially open the Encounters section at the 70th Berlinale. The goal of this section is to support new voices in cinema and to give more room to diverse narrative and documentary forms in the official programme.
“As a result of passionate research, the 15 titles chosen for Encounters present the vitality of cinema in all of its forms. Each film presents a different way of interpreting the cinematic story: autobiographical, intimate, political, social, philosophical, epic, surreal. The films take the challenge of shaping the world rather than reproducing it,” commented Carlo Chatrian, Artistic Director of the Berlinale.
“Cristi Puiu’s new work will open this kaleidoscopic gallery. A journey through time and thought, MALMKROG
SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL HAS BEEN GRANTED SUPPORT BY UNESCO TO EXECUTE A STUDY ON ITS IMPACT ON BIH The Sarajevo Film Festival has been granted support by the UNESCO to execute a study on its cultural, economic and social impact on Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Jovan Marjanovic, Head of Industry at the Festival says: ‘’This study comes at the right time. Now that the city of Sarajevo has been designated the status of a UNESCO City of Film and the Sarajevo Canton has announced new financial incentives for film and TV production, we hope that this study will provide an expert insight into how creative industries policies of the City and the Canton can be reshaped to reinvigorate the whole film and TV sector in Sarajevo.’’ UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity is a means to support the implementation of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, by fostering the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector in developing countries. The study is to be presented at the upcoming edition of the 2020 Sarajevo Film Festival.

Starting this year, the award for best drama series in development will carry the name of Croatian Audiovisual Centre Drama Award, aiming at fostering the development of drama series as well as coproductions with Croatia. The best project, based on the quality of project materials, a pitching session and ‘one-on-one’ meetings, will be selected by an independent jury consisting of three film professionals chosen by the CineLink team.
FOCUS GRANDMA is a black comedy about a family that is falling apart next to the death-bed of their matriarch, in the hills above Sarajevo, unsuspecting of dangers that lie ahead of them as the city is living through its last days of peace. Producers of the film, as part of their joint Sarajevo City of Film for Global Screen (SCF GS) initiative, are Sarajevo-based Obala Art Centar and Turkey’s national public broadcaster TRT. The SCF GS is a production fund that supports films by directors from Eastern Europe who previously showcased their work and were awarded at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
