Belma Salkuni?, an actress from Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be hosting the opening of this year?s edition of the festival, which will be held online. Salkuni? plays a lead role in the new film by Ognjen Svili?i?, ?The Voice?, in the festival In Focus programme. Naprosto je frustriraju?e. Generacija sam koju je tehnologija ozra?ila, ali nisam se rodio u digitalnom dobu, tako da ga razumijem, ali ga ne di?em. Fascinira me ?to je tehnologija omogu?ila da i u ovako komplikovanom vremenu film mo?e ipak do?i do publike, ali izostanak ?ivog kontakta me ipak frustira. Ali, kada sve stavite na vagu najva?nije je da se o?uva zdravlje i, ipak, odr?e projekcije. Bez moderne tehnologije to, naprosto, ne bi bilo mogu?e, tako da sve frustracije ostavljam po strani i sa rado??u i uzbu?enjem i??ekujem premijeru.

Sje?am se jednog od prvih predavanja profesora D?evada Karahasana, kada je rekao: ne morate se truditi da budete originalni zato ?to ste ve? nu?no originalni i neponovljivi. Borhesovska jednostavnost te misli me je fascinirala, postala neka vrsta autorskog kreda: ne truditi se da radi? kako bi to neko drugi, koliko god on genijalan bio, nego oslu?kivati ?ivot, prepoznavati i rezonovati u skladu sa svojim damarom, iskustvom i znanjem. Doima se jednostavno, ali zna biti jako te?ko, jer osim vje?tine uklju?uje i golem emocionalni anga?man. Por ed Va?ih st an dar dn ih glu m aca ? im ali n a u m u pojedin e glu m ce dok st e pisali scen ar io? ?esto pi?em imaju?i na umu konkretne glumice ili glumce, u ovom slu?aju za to, prakti?no, nije bilo vremena, jer je proces od inicijalne pri?e do snimanja filma bio stra?no kratak, sve se de?avalo u?asno brzo, bio je to proces sli?an ronjenju na dah. Ne zna?i to da je bilo te?ko raditi podjelu, naprotiv, ali pisanje scenarija za odre?ene glumice ili glumce se dijelom de?avalo kada sam radio kasnije verzije scenarija, bli?e snimanju, poslije ?ita?ih proba i analize. Kada smo radili probe, mjesec, dva, prije snimanja, jo? nisam imao napisan definitivan kraj filma. U tom procesu mi je jako pomogao rad sa gluma?kom ekipom. Rad sa tim ljudima je nezaobravno iskustvo. Bili smo vrlo kompaktan, veseo i vrijedan tim, spreman i sposoban da roni na dah koliko treba. Kako st e pr ivoljeli ovu sjajn u ?en u , koja je u ozbiljn im godin am a i za obi?n og sm r t n ik a i za vr h u n sk u glu m icu , za r ad n a f ilm u ? Na moju radost nije je trebalo privoljevati. Mira je pristala gotovo na nevi?eno da radi sa nama na ovom filmu. To mi je jedan od najve?ih komplimenata u ?ivotu. Njena vitalnost, dinamika, znanje i iskustvo su nadahnjuju?e. Stvarno je monumentalna osoba i divan umjetnik. Va? f ilm im a vi?e pr odu cen at a i pat n er a k oji su pom ogli n jegovu r ealizaciju . Mislim da moja pauza ima dublju i kompleksniju pozadinu od bud?etske konstrukcije, jer su projekti na kojima sam bio anga?ovan kao

reditelj ili scenarista, u principu, dobijali podr?ku. Ja ih nisam producirao, tako da ne znam ?ta je razlog za?to nisu realizovani do kraja. Jedan od njih je, sigurno, komplikovana koprodukcijska konstrukcija. 'Baba', u stvari i nije tako komplicirana i glomazna koprodukcija, naprotiv, primjer je efikasne, male koprodukcije. Projekat na kom trenutno radim ima koproducente iz sedam zemalja, to je stra?na komplikacija. I, ako je to budu?nost na?e kinematografije, crna nam je kapa, mislim da se moramo vi?e fokusirati na unutarnje snage, manje bud?ete, efikasniju produkciju i postprodukciju i najmodernije platforme za ditribuciju. 'Baba' je dobar primjer za to. Obzir om n a Va? m u zi?k i pedigr e, a i t o da st e n as n avik li n a t o da Va?i f ilm ovi im aju pam t ljivu m u zik u , h o?em o li n ek u glazben u t em u pam t it i po f ilm u ?Kon cen t r i?i se, baba?? Dino ?ukalo je kompozitor muzike. To nije na?a prva saradnja, radili smo dosta u teatru, na televiziji, radili smo zajedno dokumentrani film Rob, imamo, kako bi se reko, istoriju, i to vrlo pozitivnu, zajedni?kog rada. Dino je napravio odli?nu, vrlo inspirativnu muziku, a nose?i song je pjesma sarajevskog benda Kongres 'Zarjavele trobente'. Tu pjesmu je olimpijskih osamdamdesetih godina komponovao Adam Suba?i? Cupi, a tekst napisao Aljo?a Buha. Bio je veliki hit iz sjene, kultna pjesma, kakav je bio i bend Kongres. Poslije je pjesmu snimio band La?ni Franz, kako je pjesma na slovena?kom i danas mnogi misle da je pjesma La?nog Franza i Zorana Predina, ?to nije ta?no. Jedna od najljep?ih slovena?kih pjesama je, u stvari, bosanska. To je bio muzi?ki lajtmotiv sa kojim sam razmi?ljao, pisao i radio na ovom filmu. Imali smo i mali ad-hoc band, Izudin Kole?i?, bubanj, ja sam svirao bas, Dino ?ukalo gitaru, a pjevala je Lidija Kordi?. Mjesecima prije snimanja smo svirali ovu pjesmu, probavali, na koncu je snimili i zavr?ila je u filmu. Nadam se da ?e je ljudi voljeti i u ovoj na?oj verziji. Ono ?to je zanimljivo sa muzi?kog aspekta je bila odluka da nemamo folk zvuka u ovom filmu. Ostali smo dosljedni u tome.

Frustration. It's just frustrating. I belong to a generation influenced by technology but I wasn?t born in the digital age so I understand it but I don?t breathe with it. I am fascinated by the fact that technology has made it possible that a film reaches an audience even in such a complicated time, but the lack of live contact still frustrates me. But when you put everything on the scales the most important thing is to preserve your health and still maintain the projections. Without modern technology that would simply not be possible so I leave all my frustrations aside and look forward to the opening night with joy and excitement.

I remember one of the first lectures by professor D?evad Karahasan when he said: you don't have to try to be original because you are already vitally original and unique. Borgesian simplicity of that thought fascinated me; it became a kind of author 's credo: do not try to work like someone else no matter how ingenious he was but listen to life, recognize and reason in accordance with your pulse, experience and knowledge. It seems simple but it can be very difficult because, in addition to skill, it also includes a huge emotional engagement. h ave n ot w or ked w it h bef or e. Did you k eep specif ic act or s in m in d w h ile w r it in g t h e scr een play? I often write with specific actresses or actors in mind. In this case there was no time for that because the process from the initial story to the shooting of the film was very short; everything happened very fast, it was a process similar to scuba diving. This does not mean that it was difficult to do the cast, on the contrary, but writing screenplays for certain actresses or actors partly happened when I was working on later versions of the screenplay, closer to filming, after reading rehearsals and analysis. When we had rehearsals, a month or, two before shooting, I still had no final ending of the film. Working with the actors helped me a lot in that process. Work with these people is an unforgettable experience. We were a very compact, cheerful and hardworking team, ready and able to scuba diving if needed. To my great delight, she didn't need to be persuaded. Mira agreed to work with us on this film almost without prior knowledge about it. That is one of the biggest compliments in my life. Her vitality, dynamism, knowledge and experience are inspiring. She is a monumental person and a wonderful artist indeed. I think that my break has deeper and more complex background than the budget construction because the projects on which I was engaged as a director or screenwriter were in

general supported. I didn't produce them, so I don't know the reason why they weren't fully realized. One of the reasons is, of course, complicated co-production construction. ?Grandma? was not such a complicated and bulky co-production, on the contrary, it is an example of an efficient, small co-production. The project I currently work on has co-producers from seven countries, which is a terrible complication. It is awful if that?s the future of cinema. We need to focus more on internal strengths, smaller budgets, more efficient production and post-production, and the most modern distribution platforms. ?Grandma? is a good example of this. Dino ?ukalo is the composer. This is not the first time we collaborate; we worked a lot for the theatre, TV, the documentary ?Slave? (?Rob?) so we have a sort of a history, and a very positive one, of working together. Dino made great, very inspiring music, and the main theme is the song of the band Kongres from Sarajevo 'Zarjavele trobente' (?Rusty trumpets?). This song was composed by Adam Suba?i? Cupi in the 1980s, and the lyrics were written by Aljo?a Buha. It was a big hit from the second plan, a cult song ? as well as the band Kongres was. The song was later recorded by the band La?ni Franz and, as the song is in Slovenian, many people wrongly think that it is a song by La?ni Franz and Zoran Predin, which is not true. One of the most beautiful Slovenian songs is, in fact, Bosnian. That was the musical leitmotif on my mind whilst I wrote and worked on this film. We also had a small ad-hoc band, Izudin Kole?i? on drums, I played bass, Dino ?ukalo guitar and Lidija Kordi? sang. We played this song for months before shooting, rehearsed, eventually recorded it and it ended up in a movie. I hope people will love it in our version. From the musical aspect, it is interesting that our decision was not to have any folk sound in this film and we remained consistent. M ar in ela Dom an ?i?

Michel Franco was born in Mexico City in 1979 and has put Mexican cinema in the global spotlight. The films he has written, directed and produced include CHRONIC (Best Screenplay Award at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival), "Las hijas de abril / April´ s daughter " (Jury Prize, in the Certain Regard section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival), and "Después de lucía / Nakon Lucije" (Top Prize, in Certain Regard at the 2012


Cannes Film Festival). All of these films, including "Daniel and Ana" (2009) and "A los ojos" (2014), will be presented in the Sarajevo Film Festival?s Tribute to Programme. Nagrada se dodjeljuje za izuzetan doprinos filmskoj umjetnosti. Mads Mikkelsen je ro?en 1965. godine u Danskoj, gdje je stekao obrazovanje u ?koli dramskog teatra u Aarhusu. Glumac porijeklom iz Kopenhagena je svoju profesionalnu karijeru zapo?eo kao gimnasti?ar i plesa?, postojano rade?i na pozori?nim, televizijskim i filmskim projektima da bi kona?no postao najve?a mu?ka zvijezda u Danskoj i Skandinaviji.
