The story of land reclamation in Mumbai to transform it from a group of seven islands to the bursting megapolis it is today is often repeated as part of the city’s history. What is perhaps less regarded is the enormous impact it would’ve had in shaping the city itself. Reclaimed piece by piece, the city has constantly redrawn its boundaries in the past four centuries, but all land is not created equal.
