Welcome to Saratoga Bride Magazine!

As witnessed by these photos –I LOVE vintage items - and a beautifully designed logo or graphic element from a different era always catches my eye!!

I’ve had this black sequined crepe de chine dress since the mid-eighties (I started collecting very young!) and never gave it another thought when the person I bought it from said…

“That dress was owned by Veronica Lake!” - a good seller always adds a “story” to make the purchase irresistible!

Fast forward many years later, and I find out that Veronica Lake DID have a connection to the north country – and her Hadley home is now a wedding venue – featured here – in Saratoga Bride Magazine. Good thing I didn’t sell that in one of my barn sales… as if. : )

We have over a dozen Real Brides showing off the most beautiful weddings… venues, details, dresses, favors, flowers, you name it – these testimonials to who they worked with (and loved!) are for your benefit.

Our advertisers provide you –the Future Bride! - these magazines, so please tell them where you found them! And have fun planning your dream wedding in the Saratoga / Adirondack / Capital Region area with Saratoga Bride… in print and online!

While gathering flowers, her vision narrows its attention to the glorious expression of life suddenly confronting her. Her focus tightens on the incredible intricacies of its delicate form. She is in love.

Sweety Pea's FLOWERS

Strolling along among the flowers (and their uncanny ability to induce bursts of radiant happiness) Melissa Gardner chooses those that call to her, creating supple, expressive bouquets full of movement.

Loving the nitty-gritty, down-in-the-dirt appeal of growing her own flowers, in just four years, Melissa has transformed her quarter-acre lot in Ballston Lake into the dreamy Sweety Pea’s Flower Farm, a micro flower farm delivering fresh bouquet subscriptions to 65 delighted recipients each week.

When she’s not brightening the day for locals, Melissa is giving brides a variety of ways to let their own love of flowers blossom.

FLOWERS YOUR WAY

Naturally lending themselves to garden-inspired soirees, Melissa’s loose, fun style has lots of room for flexibility. Because she doesn’t use a recipe, there’s no formula for her fabulous flower combinations, and one bloom can be replaced with another to best suit your specific color scheme. Perhaps fragrance transports you to a special memory - with enough planning (about a year before your wedding) Melissa can grow that specific flower just for you.

For those who are six months out from the big day, her à la carte wedding menu lets you pick and choose flowers from a list of options. Really want to let your creativity take centerstage? Experience the magic firsthand when you order buckets of bridal blooms and arrange them yourself. With Melissa’s help, you can even set up a full Bouquet Bar and let your bridesmaids in on the action.

INTRIGUE WITHOUT THE DRAMA

In an autumn landscape, combinations of blush pinks, pale yellows, rich burgundies, and lush mauves make a big statement. In Melissa’s garden mesmerizing dahlias dance in a dizzying array of dazzling sizes and colors. Heirloom chrysanthemums (which mimic the dahlias’ complex form) have become an increasingly popular choice for fall weddings. Celosia, which can be used fresh or dried, is an ideal companion plant for stunning fall flowers. This fluffy, feathery, filler flower, and its foliage, with its purple and red tones, adds interest, elevating a bouquet into a wow-worthy showstopper. The flowers have an intricately beautiful shape and color but adding them into your wedding celebrations is easy. Melissa works with brides on any budget for fall events scheduled into October, prepares dried arrangements for winter weddings, and even puts bouquets out for sale at her roadside farmstand in the spring and summer months – so quaint! Because she is a member of flower farming collectives and communicates with other area growers, having locally grown flowers nourished with only natural growing methods and products doesn’t have to just be a fantasy. Espresso has its roots in Italy, where simple, quality ingredients are revered. In Emilie Clements’ Italian family, appreciating great coffee paired with foods straight-from-the-earth is a tradition that has been passed down for generations. In 2021, Emilie founded Close Ties, a mobile bar that has people everywhere saying, “Si, grazie!”

INTERESTING GRAZING OPTIONS

Emilie and Pepe, the photogenic Brew Cycle, a black and white tricycle from Portland, Oregon, were first seen providing cold drinks at area markets. Then, Emilie, who is based in Albany, fell in love with Camilla, an iconic 1964 Piaggio Apé. By importing the small but mighty three-wheeled powerhouse (it was used for hauling logs up and down the mountains of Palermo until 2019) from Sicily, Emilie has given Camilla a second life. Now, she is putting the cute in char-cute-rie by providing hors d’oeuvres, desserts, treats and more at special events and celebrations.

Able to fit in almost anywhere (indoors or out) Close Ties’ ultra-fresh Brunch Bar features a generous selection of delicious artisan meats, hand-crafted Cheesy Traveler cheeses, fruits, veggies, local honeys, and breads (served with homemade butters). Perfect for autumn weddings, the Dessert Bar features cider donuts from Kinderhook, sweet pastry skewers, pretzels, and more.

Close Ties’ most popular add-on, The Cigar Bar, offers unique night caps, such as their signature bourbon and hard cider drink. The bar includes divided humidors, cutters, ashtrays, matches – all the accessories for the groom and his guys to finish off the evening.

CONNECTIONS THAT KEEP THE WHEELS ROLLING

Emilie prepares crop-to-table fare inspired by her two-acre garden and flock of 60 chickens, including yummy bites like egg salad sliders and bitingly-fresh tomato bruschetta.

Italian culture is known for being wonderfully social and hospitable, so when this summer’s weather left Emilie with an abundance of some produce while ruining others, Emilie naturally adopted a barter system with neighborhood farmers …to the benefit of all!

THE MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP FARM

A venue Wedding Dreams are made of

30 | SARATOGA BRIDE | FALL/WINTER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com a Good Read | VENUE
WRITTEN & PHOTOGRAPHED BY THERESA ST. JOHN Photo provided

About ten minutes prior, my GPS led me to 35 Dean Mountain Road, where a pristine white wooden fence and dirt road lined with trees opened, presenting the star of the show – a fantastic farmhouse with old stone steps and an expansive front porch built during another era - one more genteel than ours.

Now, I find myself speaking with Chandler Atkins, owner of this stunning 170-acre property in Hadley, New York, where both Hollywood and Broadway elite once lived, relaxed, and played. I know – Hadley? Hollywood? Broadway? Who would’ve thought?

Just over half an hour from Saratoga, Hadley is a small, charming hamlet – covering 32 square miles of curving roads, sandy soil, stellar views of creeks, the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers, and mountains that form a gateway to our famed Adirondack Park.

We’re sitting at the bar inside the main six-bedroom house – I marvel at the natural light streaming in through the windows, highlighting the white walls, black floors, and touches of red throughout. The place oozes comfort, an arms-wide-open welcome, and the peace and quiet people crave when traveling in from the city or towns nearby.

When I ask Chandler how he named the location, he points to the barns and airstrip just beyond my view. “The 3,000-foot grassy area is where many celebrities flew in for a visit, one being movie-starlet Veronica Lake, who lived here with her stage and film lyricist husband, Joseph McCarthy Jr. She loved spending time at their country home and was host to the likes of Mickey Rooney, Marlon Brando, James Cagney, Ziegfeld Follies, chess legend Bobby Fischer, and more.”

“We just opened and have already booked 15 nights. We’ve also hosted our first wedding. Our tents, set up on the lawns, can hold up to 200 people. We aim to book unique weddings, events, and vacation stays from early spring to November each year.” He grins, sharing how he’s not fond of the cold and tends to travel during winter when the venue is closed.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com FALL/WINTER 2023 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 31
Veronica Lake
“Look,” he tells me. “The bride and groom always remember where they got married, right? – It’s one of the biggest events in their life together. At the end of the day, it’s all about making memories. Here, at the Mountain Airstrip Farm, we help customize them.”
32 | SARATOGA BRIDE | FALL/WINTER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

Atkins walks me through each room and bathroom of the house. All the little touches he and his events planner Katie Hawkins have incorporated into the home strike me with romance and a nod to the past. Framed photos of the movie star and lyrics her husband wrote adorn the walls, a small red airplane rests on the fireplace mantle, and chess piece bookends are arranged on open shelving units that separate one room from the next. Each bedroom is called by the name of the people who slept there. Nameplates are set at the dining table where Hollywood and Broadway's stars once leaned back, probably stretching their arms or rubbing their bellies after a great meal – to point out a few of these purposeful decisions. (Don’t worry; more history surrounding the property and owners will come in my next story!)

Purchased in 2021, Chandler has done extensive work in the house and on the property – and I can tell you it shows. “There was no plumbing, no heating. You could see straight outdoors from the inside,” he explains with a laugh and a deep sigh. “It had truly been neglected for the last halfcentury.” Gosh, had the man bitten off more than he could chew? Not from the looks of it!

Chandler explains there’s enough room for 16 people here at what’s known as the McCarthy Farmhouse– most often more than the wedding party. The overflow of wedding guests can rent and stay at his other property just a few miles away, The Elms Waterfront Cottages and Lodge, in Lake Luzerne. It sounds perfect; who wants to drive home after enjoying a fantastic wedding when you can stay on the shore, build a roaring campfire before bed, and wake up to the sunrise after a good night’s sleep? “Many people aren’t aware that what some call Phelps Bay was originally named Tiosaronda Bay by the Iroquois Indians. It means ‘meeting of the waters,’” Chandler explains. “And that’s what I say to potential couples when considering us for their wedding needs; after all, isn’t it exactly what they are doing?”

When we wander outside, I see Adirondack chairs surrounding a fire pit, a massive hot tub, a place for grilling, and even a functioning outhouse and shower! It honestly seems as if you don't need to leave once you’ve arrived on the property for a weekend or extended stay.

“I want people to enjoy the outdoors while here,” Chandler tells me emphatically. Five monstersized ATVs and one UTV side-by-side sit down in the barns – one of which is named ‘Veronica Lake Studio and Movie Barns,’ another nod to yesteryear. Chandler grins at me. “I will ride this one, and you’ll take that one. Come on – I want to show you something.” Um, uh, okay? We don helmets and goggles and make our way into the woods, where I’m thrilled to see he’s cleared the way – taking down only what he needed to make a road for this cool outdoor activity.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com FALL/WINTER 2023 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 33

When we finally stop for a few minutes, he points to another white fence where, just inside, there is a private cemetery, once belonging to the original owners, the Ellis family. “People staying at the farm can rent the ATVs and come here to check out headstones dating back to the late 1700s - early 1800s, visit the river, or make their way into the mountains. First, we take them on our Dual Track System, introducing them to ATV riding. This helps build their skills and makes them feel confident before heading into the woods. We also offer 2-hour guided tours, where we travel around the property along winding trails, across bridges, along the river, and over slopes and hilly terrain.” It’s easy to picture the wedding party shaking off stress and having fun in the wild before the big day. Besides that, they even offer safety certificates and riding lessons to young people who don’t own or know how to ride an ATV.

Chandler says he plans to offer hiking and repelling adventures off a ledge on Antone Mountain. “We’ll drop them off and pick them up later with the ATVs, allowing them to rock climb, hike, and repel down the cliffs for a few hours. It’ll be quite an outdoor experience and should be ready in the next few years.” Over at The Elm’s, a property he’s owned for 29 years, people can enjoy plenty of R&R, swimming, and all kinds of watercraft rentals. “My focus is all about the great outdoors,” he tells me. Kayaking, lazyriver rafting, sup boarding, tubing, boating, fishing –you name it, he’s got it.

“I’m the third owner of Mountain Airstrip Farm. But I feel as if I’m more of a caretaker,” Chandler states, looking off into the distance. “Down the road, someone will take over the job. Right now, I feel like I’m standing on the shoulders of those who were here before me. I just want to make them proud.”

EXPERIENCE A Striking Vintage TRAIN WEDDING

a Good Read | VENUE
36 | SARATOGA BRIDE | FALL/WINTER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com
WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS PROVIDED

Go on a unique ride to the journey of a lifetime.

Adventurous couples who love travel now have an elegantly edgy way to say, “I do!” Just minutes from Saratoga Springs, hop aboard the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway (or reserve the whole train!) for a wedding day mixed with grit and glamour.

ALL ABOARD!

What goes better with a whirlwind romance than a wedding filled with the energy, sights, and sounds of a vintage train as it speeds down the tracks?

The ideal Industrial Chic wedding accessory, the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway’s vintage six-car train embodies the essence of an idea - love is a journey.

Since last year, the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway has been running sightseeing trips and private charters between Corinth and Greenfield Center.

Powered by a green and yellow 1947 Alco S1 #5 locomotive, this phenomenal working relic makes a statement that stops you in your tracks.

When you rent the full vintage train, it takes you, and 40 to 130 guests, on a calmly exhilarating 40-minute ride through the countryside of the scenic Southern Adirondack Mountains.

As the train meanders through the ever-changing landscape of rippling streams and majestic marshes, wildlife makes surprise appearances amid the awe-inspiring blanket of color produced by the tapestry of fall leaves.

“Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride,” instructs conductor and Railway President Hal Raven.

Passengers happily oblige.

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

This is a moment bristling with possibility.

The Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway rides that trend with a variety of passenger cars including the “Kayadeross Creek,” a 1916 vintage Pullman revamped into a private lounge. There is a cushioned, climate-controlled coach car, a dining car with comfortable table seating, and a vintage red caboose conveniently equipped with a small restroom.

Ride the rails while taking in the stars from the casual picnic tables of the open-air car, guitar in hand, and it will feel like you are living inside the sentimental nostalgia of a Johnny Cash song, laughs Hal. In addition to being a stunning backdrop for foliage-full fall photos, the train transforms wedding day transportation from a hassle into an elegantly edge way to walk down the aisleespecially when it comes with the services of an accommodating crew like the one Hal has assembled.

Hal is a man in motion. Working on the railroad for 28 years, he has been an engineer, freight conductor, and railway superintendent.

When he’s not on the tracks, he’s on the water. After working as a Lake George ship captain, in 2016 he launched Adirondack Cruise and Charter on Saratoga Lake offering sunset dinner cruises, floating classroom events, and private party charters.

In all his ventures, Hal converts neglected or abandoned vestiges of an earlier age, reinventing and instilling them with a vibrantly useful new life.

A MOVING CEREMONY

Put a fresh twist on an Industrial Chic theme at King’s Station, the location of the original depot built in 1883, at the trip’s halfway point. King’s Cross is a pastoral place perfect for a ceremony set in nature. This raw space is a blank slate imbued with possibility.

From here, it’s on to a LaMothe Landing reception for the history books.

The centerpiece of this 22-acre property is a 1700’s-era farmhouse. Antiques and original architectural details can still be seen in this structure, which accommodates as many as six overnight guests, giving it character galore - and you the opportunity to build-your-own wedding in real industrialist fashion. The inherent charm of the landscape provides so much natural visual interest that less is more. Since there isn’t an overabundance of décor, what you bring in to the space, is given room to shine.

A REVOLUTION WORTH REPEATING

Couples experience the delight of dancing on the lawn under the large party tent, then heading to their room, just steps away.

Up for a quick weekend excursion?

Take an easy 500-yard walk from LaMothe Landing and you’ll come upon Fossil Stone Farms Vineyard and Winery, a second-generation farmhouse built in 1802 where grapes, horses, and nature coexist in the tranquil beauty of a rural landscape. In the true spirit of our era’s new revolution, these are the places where possibilities are endless, and your imagination can run wild.

Bookings are still available for the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway 2023 season, which runs through December.

Brookledge: A RETRO-RUSTIC RETREAT FOR CAMP STYLE CELEBRATIONS

40 | SARATOGA BRIDE | FALL/WINTER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com a Good Read | VENUE
WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS BY BEN CARLSON PHOTOS (UNLESS NOTED)

Outdoorsy, creative couples are in their element at the warm, earthy, intimate Brookledge - a woodsy retreat that feels like the Adirondacks, but is only 15 minutes from Saratoga.

When you rent Brookledge, you have access to the entire camp for the whole weekend, a generous space for a wedding experience surrounded by loved ones and nature.

Brookledge has multiple fully-stocked lodging options, a ceremony area, three pavilions, two bathhouses, a pond with a fountain, firepits and games, 60 acres of trails, and offers wedding coordination services.

“This is the wedding venue we wished we’d had when we got married 17 years ago,” said owner Helen Christopher.

WOODSY WHIMSY

From the 1950s until 2011, various summer camp programs called Brookledge home. When they purchased the property two years ago, the Christophers wanted to preserve this history and bring it to life.

The wedding party has lots of room to get ready in the Treehouse Lodge, which features a large fieldstone fireplace and sleeps eight. There is also the Crook Brook Lincoln-Log style cabin, and a secluded rustic cottage perched atop boulders (for those ok with roughing it). Two carpeted glamping tents (named Snoopy and Woodstock after the buses that brought kids to camp) have also been added.

A GREAT PLACE TO CELEBRATE

Dancing under the stars in the middle of the woods doesn’t mean your wedding can’t be a huge affair.

With parking for 200, wide paths, and a golf cart, Brookledge is accessible to everyone.

As guests approach the welcoming Raymond’s Roost Bar for cocktail hour, birds’ songs mingle with the soft sound of gravel crunching underfoot while chipmunks scurry from tree to tree beside the gurgling Crook Brook.

Stumps line the walkways to the Camp Chapel, where live-edge benches seat 160. Custom farmhouse seating, ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, and extra lighting in the Fireside Pavilion keeps everyone happy and feeling cared for.

Brookledge’s onsite wedding coordination services, vendor recommendations, venue insurance, and free wedding website creation services are tailored to your needs and geared to make your stay into something magical.

ETHEREAL BOHEMIAN BLISS

Because you have the pet-friendly camp for the entire weekend, there are plenty of opportunities for old-school camp activities. Put on your fancy flannel and sip from mason jars as you play lawn games, make s’mores, and enjoy morning coffee on the porch. Take photos with a collection of classic cars including a vintage 1968 Bronco, 1970 Chevelle Super Sport, 1976 Ford Pickup, 1986 Cadillac, and several military vehicles. In the summer, dive into the swimming pond affectionately named the “Ice Bucket” or paddle around in a classic green canoe. When the weather turns cold, micro-weddings at the snowy camp take on a cozy winter vibe as the pond freezes over for ice skating and guests head out for snowshoeing on the trails.

A REVOLUTIONARY TREATMENT FOR Glowing Skin

If you’re looking for the best facial treatment in Saratoga Springs, you may want to consider the Glo2 Facial, offered exclusively at FACES of Saratoga on Beekman Street. This innovative treatment uses cutting-edge technology to deeply cleanse, exfoliate, oxygenate, and nourish the skin, leaving you with a radiant and youthful glow.

The Glo2 Facial has five main steps: cleanse, exfoliate, oxygenate, nourish and protect. In the exfoliation phase, it sloughs away dead skin cells and then oxygenates the skin tissue by infusing active ingredients like kojic acid and vitamin C into the skin via red light therapy.

“The combination of the oxypod (a small tart of ingredients) and the Glo2 primer gel triggers the body’s natural process to increase oxygen levels,” says Crystal Cobert-Giddens, owner of FACES of Saratoga, “This prepares the skin for maximum absorption through the rest of the facial treatment.”

Oxygen therapy increases blood flow, stimulates collagen, reduces inflammation, and increases the release of adenosine triphosphate, a nucleotide known for its age reversing properties and smoothing of the skin.

In other words, your skin will look amazing and feel incredible! HERE’S WHAT IT CAN DO:

• Deeply cleanses and exfoliates the skin

• Oxygenates and revitalizes the skin

• Nourishes and hydrates the skin with active, vegan ingredients

• Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

• Improves skin tone and texture

• Increases collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin

• Enhances skin radiance and luminosity

Our GLO 2 Facial is suitable for all skin types and can be customized to meet your specific needs and concerns. Whether you’re looking to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, or simply give your skin a radiant and youthful glow, the Glo2Facial at FACES can help you achieve the skin of your dreams.

Honeymoon Planning | IDEAS & ADVICE

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Thinking about a cruise for your honeymoon?

3. ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT:

CHOOSING A CRUISE FOR THIS UNIQUE AND ROMANTIC VACATION COULD BE A WONDERFUL CHOICE FOR SEVERAL REASONS.

Here are a few:

1. VARIETY OF DESTINATIONS:

A cruise offers the opportunity to visit a variety of places in a single trip.

You could be in a romantic city one day, on a tropical island the next, and yet another fascinating place on the day after that! You get to experience diverse cultures, cuisines, and attractions without the need for arranging multiple flights and accommodations.

2.

ALL-INCLUSIVE PRICING:

Most cruises include meals, accommodation, and onboard entertainment in their pricing. This can take off a lot of pressure and allow you to better manage your budget. Plus, you won't have to worry about small details and can focus more on enjoying your time together.

Cruise ships are renowned for their plethora of activities and entertainment options. These may include live shows, movies, gyms, spa facilities, swimming pools, and even rock-climbing walls or water parks on some ships. There are also classes and workshops, such as cooking or dance classes. So, regardless of your interests, you're likely to find something enjoyable to do.

4. RELAXATION:

If relaxation is a priority, a cruise can be a perfect choice. Imagine lounging by the pool, indulging in a couples massage, or just watching the sea from the balcony of your room. You can do as much or as little as you like.

5. ROMANTIC DINNERS AND NIGHTS:

Dining on a cruise ship can be a highly romantic experience, with gourmet meals and beautiful ocean views. Some ships even offer private dining options. After dinner, there are usually several bars and lounges for late-night drinks, often with live music.

6. HASSLE-FREE PLANNING:

With a cruise, you eliminate the need to plan every little detail of your honeymoon. The cruise line takes care of itinerary planning, meal provisions, and entertainment, leaving you free to simply enjoy your trip.

Check out these four very different itineraries that our honeymoon clients love...

ALASKA ON A PRINCESS CRUISE

A Princess Alaskan cruise can make for an incredibly unique and memorable honeymoon experience. Here's why:

Glacier Bay National Park: Most Princess Alaska cruises include a visit to Glacier Bay National Park, a highlight of any Alaskan cruise. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you'll have the chance to witness huge chunks of ice calving from glaciers into the ocean - a truly memorable experience!

Unique Excursions: The off-ship excursions available during an Alaskan cruise can be both exciting and romantic. You could go whale watching, dog sledding, or hiking in the Alaskan wilderness.

Breathtaking Scenery: Alaska is known for its stunning landscapes, with beautiful fjords, glaciers, and wildlife. Seeing these sights from a cruise ship adds an element of awe and romance. You can watch the sunset over the mountains, take in the view of majestic whales breaching, or gaze at the Northern Lights in each other's arms.

HAWAII ON NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offers an incredible opportunity to explore Hawaii, and taking a cruise there for your honeymoon could be an unforgettable experience. Here’s why:

Unparalleled Scenery: Hawaii is known for its breathtaking landscapes, from active volcanoes and lush rainforests to pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. You'll be able to explore the islands during the day and return to the ship each evening to dine and relax, perhaps enjoying a Hawaiian sunset from the deck.

Island-Hopping: One of the primary benefits of a Hawaiian cruise is the ability to visit multiple islands without having to organize flights. NCL's Hawaii cruises typically stop at several islands, including Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai, each with its own unique attractions, landscapes, and culture.

FreeStyle Cruising: NCL is known for its FreeStyle Cruising concept, which allows guests a lot of flexibility. There are no set dining times, a variety of restaurants to choose from, and a casual dress code. This laid-back approach can be especially appealing on a honeymoon when you may want to spend your days spontaneously.

Exciting Excursions: Depending on the specific cruise you choose, there may be a variety of shore excursions available. You could explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, visit the historic Pearl Harbor, enjoy a traditional Hawaiian luau, or go snorkeling in the clear Pacific waters.

52 | SARATOGA BRIDE | FALL/WINTER 2023 saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

GREECE AND ITALY ON A CELEBRITY CRUISE

A Celebrity cruise to Greece and Italy for your honeymoon can offer a blend of luxury, romance, and cultural exploration. Here’s a few reasons this could be the honeymoon you would enjoy:

Exploration of Historic and Cultural Sites: Both Greece and Italy are rich in history and culture. You'll have the opportunity to visit iconic sites like the Acropolis in Athens, the Colosseum in Rome, the canals of Venice, and the beautiful white and blue buildings of Santorini.

World-Class Cuisine: Both Greece and Italy are renowned for their culinary traditions. Aboard a Celebrity cruise, you'll have the chance to sample local dishes prepared by skilled chefs and often featuring locally sourced ingredients. Some cruises may also offer cooking classes or wine tastings.

Romantic Destinations: From the romantic canals of Venice and the breathtaking Amalfi Coast in Italy to the spectacular sunsets in Santorini, Greece, these destinations are renowned for their romantic appeal. Imagine sipping a glass of wine while watching the sunset over the Mediterranean, or strolling through the narrow, winding streets of a Greek island village.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com FALL/WINTER 2023 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 53

SAIL THE CARIBBEAN ON A ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE SHIP

A Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line can make for a memorable and exciting honeymoon.

Innovative Ships: Royal Caribbean is known for having some of the most innovative ships in the cruise industry. These ships often feature exciting amenities like zip lines, surf simulators, rock climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, and even robotic bartenders.

Stunning Destinations: The Caribbean is renowned for its beautiful islands, white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant cultures. Depending on your itinerary, you could visit various islands, each offering unique experiences, from the historic sites of Puerto Rico to the natural beauty of St. Lucia.

Exciting Shore Excursions: Royal Caribbean offers numerous shore excursions that allow you to explore each destination fully. You can snorkel in clear Caribbean waters, hike through tropical rainforests, explore local markets, or take a tour of historic sites. So… plan your honeymoon on a great cruise where the variety of destinations, the all-inclusive type pricing, the very exciting shore excursions and the ability to move at your pace makes for a memorable honeymoon experience.

Our Story...

January 9, 2021. The first night in our first home together, and we couldn't help but look at each other and wonder how we got here. The years seemed to have flown by, but in that moment, time stood still, and we reminisced on the eight years we had spent together up to that point.

We met in high school (Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk’ RCS High School) I was a sophomore and Christian a senior. Christian asked me to his senior Prom in the Spring of 2013 without ever formally meeting me in person! To our surprise, that would be the first of many dates, and the beginning of our forever. We spent our days watching movies, laying on the trampoline, hanging out with friends, and enjoying each other’s company. In the Fall of 2015, we both decided that we would attend The University at Albany. We loved to meet up whenever we had a chance. Whether it was in the library for an hour or grabbing a quick bite to eat before our next class. The year of our college graduation we moved into our first and only apartment together. We loved cooking, decorating for the holidays, and hosting friends and family. That same year we started to design our engagement ring. Christian proposed that Fall during a rainy evening in the Adirondacks (that's a whole other story!). It was just perfect!

Saratoga has always been a place we feel ourselves in, and wanted our guests to experience all the history and beauty that it offers. The Hall of Springs was a no brainer. The space really is made of pure magic, and you feel all the generations of love that wed there before you. It’s surreal that we have spent almost a decade together, and we thought it would be special to tie the knot in our 10th year. Our wedding day was everything we could have dreamed of and more! We are so thankful to all our incredible vendors. We are thrilled to look back on a celebration that closed our first chapter and opened our next.

Our Story...

Billy and I originally met at SPAC at a DMB concert through mutual friends. The summers that followed were filled with bonfires, concerts, art and drawing collaborations with each other. We remained friends from afar after I left Saratoga to attend college in Burlington, VT and Billy went on to pursue his tattooing career. It wasn't until 2017, after I had moved back, that we reconnected at Desperate Annie's in downtown Saratoga. That night, both of us were on separate dates but were so excited to see one another that we spent the rest of the evening ignoring everyone else in the room to catch up... and the rest is history.

When we began planning our wedding day - since I grew up on Saratoga Lake, and Billy spent his youth on Sacandaga - their was a immediate pull to have a lakefront wedding (and what better way to show off this beautiful location to out-of-town friends and family!)

The first time we toured Moon's Lake House, we knew that it was the spot for our special day - it was just so US! We spent that summer devising our DIY plan, thrifting decor and finalizing details. When they say "it takes a village" sometimes it really does - and we are so fortunate to have so many brilliant people in our lives that contributed their talents to the party of the year - from the flowers to the food!

TO PASS ALONG...

• If you are a DIY couple, like us, be sure to take reference pics/video of your venue to look back to whilst still planning! I also sketched out the table setting to help visualize the details.

• Don't lose the big picture! Do what speaks to you as a couple to get your personalities in there! We traded in a few classic wedding traditions for a more laid back vibe that really made our day unique to us.

Our Story...

What began as a friendship in college, at Temple University, quickly grew into a love that spanned far beyond Philadelphia. Funny enough, Kurt and I grew up less than seven miles away from each other in Pennsylvania. However, we didn't meet until college- more than two hours away from our hometowns. We laugh now trying to figure out where we may have crossed paths before we 'officially' met. After three years of long-distance dating, in 2018, my job brought us to the Capital Region. It was the first time Kurt and I were able to live together in the same place- and it quickly became 'home.’ In 2020, smack dab in the middle of the pandemic, Kurt proposed outside of the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Spa State Park. It was one of the first places we visited upon moving to the Capital Region- and he remembered how I mentioned it would be a 'gorgeous place to get married.’ He arranged for our friend, who's a professional photographer, to hide and capture the moment on camera. Even though we grew up in Pennsylvania, we knew we wanted to bring our family and friends to the place we called 'home' and were thrilled they had a chance to experience a place that is near and dear to our hearts. Upon seeing the Canfield Casino, we knew it was our place. Oh, the gorgeous stained-glass ceiling! Our incredible vendors helped bring every aspect of our vision to life, and better than we ever could've imagined. We are so grateful for all our family and friends who traveled to celebrate the best day of our life …and danced the night away with us!

special touches...

• Getting ready location: The Batcheller Mansion

• Alterations: WillfitUin (now Mosca Alterations)

• Rehearsal/Welcome Party location: Harvey's Irish Pub

• As a professional journalist, I had to incorporate it somehow. Instead of wedding programs, we put all our details in a newspaper! We put them in our wedding programs and made copies available throughout the weekend. We put in stories of our own love story, the Saratoga proposal, how our parents met (and are still together today!), the history of the Canfield Casino and our favorite places to eat, drink, and visit around Saratoga!

• During my bridal shower my mom gifted me with my “something old, new, borrowed and blue.” The old was my mom's wedding dress transformed into a bridal clutch purse to use on the big day. It's something I'll be able to pass down to my own children one day. My blue was an angel gifted to me by my grandmother who passed just several months before the wedding. Fleurtacious attached the angel and her favorite rosaries around my bridal bouquet. (I also gifted my mom a clutch with a baby picture of me, along with a favorite saying from a book we read together growing up).

• In Lieu of a memorial table, we wanted to celebrate the love of our parents and grandparents. Both of our parents have been married for more than 30 years. So, we wanted to honor that by putting wedding portraits out on display with a sign which said, "Honoring the love that built ours.”

• Since my husband and I met in Philadelphia- we wanted a nod to the 'City of Brotherly Love.’ Our cake topper was a 'LOVE' sign from Love Park in Philly. Mazzone also had incredible mini Philly Cheesesteaks (that were just as delicious as the authentic ones!)

Our Story...

Before DJ and I met, I had been separated/divorced for five years. I had dated a few men over the years, but nothing felt right. My four children, who were 24, 22, 17 and 15 at the time, also agreed that no one had been a good match for me, or them.

I was sworn to the fact that I would never get married again, but I was still interested in having a relationship. DJ and I crossed paths many times at our local gym, and the most we would do is smile and say hello. Neither one of us had the guts to strike up a conversation, so I just kept hoping to run into him EVERY time I was there!

As luck would have it, we both ended up signing up on a popular dating site in 2014. It's at that time, that DJ saw my profile and reached out. After just a few conversations, he asked me to meet. We tried to keep things quiet for a while, but his nephew spotted us at Panera having dinner after we worked out at the gym. Needless to say… that was the end of our little secret!

We took things slow, and I made sure my children were all accepting of him. After a couple years, he moved into my home. Fast forward to 2019 when we went on vacation to Aruba with my sister, her husband, and some friends. DJ brought me on a sunset cruise and shocked me when he got down on one knee and proposed. Everyone was surprised, but at the same time, they all said "FINALLY!"

We were not in any rush to plan a wedding, which was a good thing, because that was right before the Covid-19 restrictions started. After three more years of procrastinating, we decided to finally make it official. We wanted something beautiful, intimate, and surrounded by the most important people in our lives. With only two short months of planning, we were able to pull off our idea of a perfect wedding. It was amazing how everything fell into place. We fell in love with The Shaker and Vine because it has a destination wedding feel with the palm trees and harbor. It was so special to have my daughters as bridesmaids and my son walk me down the aisle. It was a day I will never forget!!

Our Story...

Jeremy and I matched on Hinge in January of 2019, and we clicked right from the start. We messaged back and forth for about three weeks before we finally went on our first date at The Point in Albany. I was a little hesitant about getting back into dating after a long dating hiatus during grad school, and even though he didn’t know that at the time, he was kind and patient and was willing to wait until I was ready.

There’s a quote that says “if you meet somebody and your heart pounds, your hands shake, your knees go weak, that’s not the one. When you meet your soulmate, you’ll feel calm. No anxiety, no agitation.”

That perfectly describes our relationship from day one. There were butterflies and it felt good and exciting to be getting to know each other, but there were no games and no questions on either side about the way we were starting to feel about each other. He asked me out on a second date while we were still on our first date. Knowing how genuine he was about his feelings made it so easy to fall for him, which is not a feeling I had ever had before in a relationship.

I knew after our second date that I was going to love him – I even put it in our vows! Falling in love with Jeremy was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I feel so lucky that I get to be loved by him, and I also feel so lucky that I get to love him, too.

advice

TO PASS ALONG...

• Don’t worry so much about what you think you should do, or what other people want you to do. The day is about you and your partner and you should have the wedding you want!

• Planning a wedding can be fun but it can also be overwhelming - for most people it’s the biggest event you’ll plan for yourself in your entire life. There’s really nothing else like it. Take your time, don’t rush, and figure out what you do and don’t likeknowing both is important!

• We didn’t have a wedding planner, and if I could do one thing differently, I would have had a day-of wedding planner. We were fine before that but it would have been really helpful to have one person coordinate everything the day of, because you’re really so busy and everyone is trying not to bother you with questions about the little details, but they’re important!

Our Story...

Eric and I met several years ago while working together in the emergency department at Albany Medical Center. Amidst the chaos and hustle of our work environment, we became friends who worked seamlessly together, and we had the utmost respect for one another. So, when one of our coworkers suggested the two of us go on a date, we took their advice, gathered some courage, and made it happen.

We spent our first date at the Sagamore talking about our lives, our dreams, our hopes, and our fears. We realized then that we had more in common than we ever thought. As our relationship continued to grow, it didn’t take long for either of us to realize that we had found the person we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with. A little after our oneyear anniversary, Eric took me back to the Sagamore. As I looked out over the lake on the most picturesque balcony, Eric got down on one knee and proposed.

While the Sagamore will always hold a special place in our hearts, we chose to get married at the Canfield Casino as I have lived in Saratoga for several years, and we both felt that the venue contained so much beauty, history, and charm. We also love Congress Park, especially in the fall.

Our wedding day was everything we wanted and so much more. Our vendors exceeded all our expectations and made the experience one that we will treasure forever and never forget.

Our Story...

Jordan and I met as Freshmen at Clarkson University in 2013 while we were both Pledging Greek organizations. I was desperately attracted to her from the first time I saw her, she was a little less enthusiastic about me at first but after talking to her every single chance I could get for over a year… she finally agreed to go on a date with me. Our first date was during an absolutely terrible blizzard, but there was no force of nature that was going to stop me from taking her out that night. After that she started to like me as much as I liked her, and we decided to be a couple not long after.

We moved to the Capital Region after college because we both happened to find work in the area and quickly decided that we both loved it here. We bought a house together in Ballston Spa in 2019 and I got on one knee and proposed on our front porch a year later. We knew we wanted to get married in the fall because it’s our favorite season and we picked the Park Theater in Glens Falls to maximize the amount of fall vibes (plus their food is AMAZING!). Our wedding was wonderful, and the event organizers did a wonderful job, but the most important part for us was having all our friends and family there to celebrate our love for each other.

Our Story...

Fermin and I met at Michigan Law School while studying next to each other in the library. During a study break, he struck up a conversation that became a debate: Which Superhero is Better - Batman or Spiderman? The humor and charm within this silly conversation was captivating. After our first meeting, years passed before we crossed paths again in a class our final semester. We became friends and began dating the fall after graduation. We fell in love with hiking under the changing leaves...and each other. In the winter, I departed for a job in South Africa for a year. We continued our relationship long distance. When I returned to the States, our relationship continued to grow for 6 years. Fermin proposed while kneeling next to a pond under bright red Japanese Maples.

LOCATION
After our engagement, we relocated to the Capital Region for Fermin’s position as a Law Professor and discovered that our new home boasts the most beautiful Autumn in the country! When we stumbled upon Old Daley on Crooked Lake after a hike with our puppies, we knew it was the perfect location to celebrate our next season of love surrounded by family. The venue reflected our love of nature, elegance, and whimsy. Our rainy-day wedding was magical. We drew inspiration from the vibrant leaves of enchanted forest trails, warm candlelight of harvest feasts, the beautiful blues of Crooked Lake, the sparkle of gold and vintage glass, and the stunning fall colors of the Capital Region. saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com FALL/WINTER 2023 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 87

TO PASS ALONG...

• Take a moment at the end of the night for the bride and groom to have a "final dance". Our venue coordinator gave us this great recommendation. For this unrehearsed dance, we swayed and twirled to Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" on the empty dance floor as our guest gathered their coats. The final dance was a special intimate and romantic moment for just the two of us. We will always remember it as a lovely end to our wonderful wedding day.

• Just Breathe! You may have unexpected things happen on your big day, but that will not make the day any less special. We did not expect to move our entire ceremony indoors, but heavy rains changed our plans. Thanks to all of the careful planning by our amazing vendors including our venue coordinator, decor designer, photographer, make up artist, DJ, and others- our cozy rainy-day wedding was beautiful and unforgettable!

special touches...

• First Dance Choreography: Tiffany Lee of Albany Dance & Fitness

• Rehearsal Dinner: Coordinated by Moxie Moments

• We featured a "puppy table" for all the special four legged loved ones that could not join us at the wedding. We requested photos of all of the family dogs from our guests and displayed them along with our two babies (Buttercup and Gizmo) on the piano during the reception. Everyone loved seeing their puppies on at the wedding!

• We had a Pre-Ceremony "Cider-Donut Hour". Our guests were welcomed into the wedding with our favorite cider donuts from Cold Hollow from Vermont, and hot mulled apple cider.

• Instead of a guest book, we used a custom made Jenga game (one of our favorite games for game night). Our guests signed the Jenga blocks. The game is stored in an engraved box with our names and wedding date. This special memento will be well loved and well used over the years!

• We wrote letters to each other the night before the wedding with all of our wishes for each other during our first year of marriage. We signed the envelope seals and placed the letters in a lock box during the ceremony. Each year on our wedding anniversary, we will open the letters and read them to each other. We will then lock new letters in the box until our next anniversary.

Our Story...

Krystle's sister drove to her house at 9:30 p.m. on a Tuesday evening in November, forced Krystle out of her pajamas & got her glammed up for a friend's birthday celebration. Once ready, Krystle was stuffed into the backseat of her sister's car, which is where she first met Alex.

That night, and at several gatherings after, Krystle & Alex gravitated toward one another, fully distracted by the other's presence. They soon decided to go on their first date, where Alex took Krystle to his favorite dive bar for Tuesday night karaoke. After several months of claiming to others they were "just friends," Krystle & Alex made their relationship official.

On Christmas Eve, after eight years of dating, Krystle gifted Alex a riddle on a colorful notecard. Solving the riddle led Alex on a scavenger hunt throughout their apartment, finding more riddles detailing important memories they had shared together. Alex discovered his final clue, a small box beneath the gingerbread house they had made the night before. Alex opened the box to find an engagement ring! He turned around to see Krystle on one knee. When she asked if he wanted to marry her, Alex smiled, got down on his knee, pulled a ring out of his pocket, and said… "only if you want to marry me!"

FINALLY…

After nine years, four months and twenty nine days, they got married amongst their family and friends at The Mansion of Saratoga in Rock City Falls, NY …on a Tuesday.

Our Story...

Vinnie and I met at a housewarming party in 2018, we were introduced by a mutual friend. After he introduced us, he said he couldn’t have imagined a better match and he was right! That night we instantly clicked and talked through the entire party and then the whole night. I almost feel like I knew right away by how easy and effortless the conversation was. I felt like I had already known him for years. Looking back now I feel like I can definitely say it was love at first sight. I moved from NH to Lake George as soon as I possibly could so we wouldn’t have to be long distance and I am so happy I did, I feel like even then I knew I was moving to be closer to the person I would spend the rest of my life with.

Vinnie proposed to me after 3 1/2 years of dating in Disney World on the pathway between Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom, it was around sunset and not a single person was around. It was so perfect and intimate! After that we had a celebratory dinner at California Grille and went to the firework show. It was a real-life fairytale.

We decided to get married where we fell in love… Lake George. It was an absolutely incredible fall day! I couldn’t have imagined a better day. We couldn’t decide who we wanted to have cater our wedding, so we picked our favorite dishes from our favorite local restaurants! We had some incredible vendors - I highly recommend every single one of them! Letizia Mastrantoni from Events to a T planned the most beautiful day! We are so lucky that our wonderful family and friends were able to travel and celebrate with us.

Our Story...

Meeting one another took a long time coming.

I’m from Saratoga Springs but moved to Manhattan a few years after college and James, who is from Warwick, a town further south, moved to Saratoga a few years after college. There were a couple of years when we were both living in the same town, even sharing some of the same friends but never officially met. It seemed like we were quite literally always crossing paths and especially for those few years when we were both living in Saratoga!

We officially met on Travers Day. After enjoying a day at the races, we made our way to a local outdoor bar, The Horseshoe. I was intrigued by James’ cool and calm demeanor, while he was drawn to my fun-natured laugh that caught his attention amongst the crowd. We were instantly taken to each other. James asked if he could take me out on a proper date when we were both back home in Manhattan. We went out on that date three days later …and have been together ever since!

James proposed after three years of dating. He had planned a Friday night dinner out after a summer of traveling and weekends away. In typical fashion, we walked from our apartment on the Upper East Side, along Central Park before hailing a cab to the restaurant. James led us closer to the Plaza Hotel, got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. It was such a special moment, in a spot we loved!

We both have deep roots in Saratoga Springs and knew it was where we wanted to get married. We instantly fell in love with the history and distinguished beauty of the Hall of Springs and set our date immediately! Our wedding came together seamlessly because of our vendors. We enjoyed the planning process and have nothing but great things to say about our Saratoga wedding. It was such a special day, and we are so grateful that we were surrounded by our family and friends that mean so much to us.

Our Story...

Brandon and I met while attending Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where we later graduated together as Pharmacists. We were classmates and great friends for many years prior to dating. Brandon was the first to fall and waited patiently, always holding on to the hope we would end up together. Finally, we started dating during our fifth year of college and had the best year falling in love and celebrating our last year on campus with our friends.

A year full of internships brought long distance, however we made the most of it by traveling hours to see each other every single weekend. After we graduated, we moved in together, bought our first home, and got engaged soon after that.

The Queensbury Hotel

I grew up in Queensbury and always dreamed of getting married in the area, even after moving to Brandon's hometown. The Queensbury Hotel offered a gorgeous and renovated venue with an intimate feel where we could invite our guests to stay for the weekend and truly enjoy every minute with us. The Queensbury Hotel understood my vision of traditional black and white, elegance, and timelessness …and brought it to life! From the cocktail hour until the big dance party to end the night, every detail was perfect. Brandon and I were so thankful to share our special day with the most important people in our lives. We cannot thank our venue and vendors enough for playing a part in making it magical. It truly was a fairytale wedding and a dream come true.

Our Story...

Karl and I met on one of the most sought-after dating apps - LinkedIn. We had attended the same small college but had never met in person. When I saw his profile showing he was an alumni working at the same company I was moving to Virginia for, I reached out and asked about housing in the area. He responded with an entire PowerPoint presentation, and the rest is history.

After a little over a year of dating in Virginia, we decided the beach wasn't for us and made the move to Colorado. Since then, we have been living life to the fullest, backpacking, hiking, and camping as much as we can. One hike in particular to the Flat Irons in Boulder Colorado proved extra special when Karl popped the question at the top.

Being virtually the only two in both of our families that don't live in the northeast, we knew right away that we would be planning a wedding across the country. After taking a trip home to Albany, we toured the 408 Event and Occasion and fell in love. The details of the space spoke for themselves, and we loved that everything from the food, bar, and day-of coordination was done in-house.

Our wedding day was a day I'll never forget… filled with love, dancing, and so much smiling! We are forever grateful to our vendors who helped to make the day run so smoothly, and for all our family and friends that were able to celebrate with us.

• Remember, your wedding day is about celebrating the love you and your partner have for eachother, not about making others happy. Do what makes you happy, and others will feed off of your energy.

• You don't need to have a bunch of decorations and flowers to have a beautiful wedding. Find a venue that is beautiful on its own and let it speak for itself.

Our Story...

Matt and I dedicate a lot of time and energy - and we mean a lot of time and energy - to our jobs. That's why it makes sense we met at work.

On my first day, I was told to shadow Matt. He was less than thrilled but was nice enough and I somehow convinced him to share his coveted Twitter list of local news sources.

We kept things strictly professional until about a year later. I was planning to go to a midnight showing of The Last Jedi with my friend (and bridesmaid) Chiara. At the last minute, Chiara couldn't make it to Albany, so I posted on Facebook, looking for someone to brave the Star Wars super fans with me. Matt accepted, and as they say, the rest is history.

Not the biggest fans of hot weather, we knew we wanted to have a winter wedding. Matt is originally from Watertown and I grew up in Westchester County. Saratoga was the perfect compromise, and I have always loved the Adelphi Hotel. We were so thankful for our friends and family who agreed to travel - in a snowstorm - the week before Christmas!
