Alan Fletcher

November Issue 2006 Page 35 Alan Gerard Fletcher (27 September 1931 – 21 September 2006) Alan was a British graphic designer. In his obituary, he was described by The Daily Telegraph as “the most highly regarded graphic designer of his generation, and probably one of the most prolific”. Not unlike the designs that RKCR/Y&R developed I wanted to keep up with the experimental type but also work with the composition of the design that I was producing. Design Shown: LG - Life’s good campaign.

This opened my mind to the idea of developing more than one product for a design I have developed. Design Shown: V&A Museum of Childhood Promotional Posters

GF Smith

Reza Abedini

May Issue 2007 Page 47 Website: www.rezaabedini.com Email: info@rezaabedini.com Even before I saw Reza within CR I had seen his work, and it was inspiring to me. The designs they develop introduced new methods of designing. The example shown is of creating a design by cutting out the detail, yet other aspects that I have seen through Navy blue are the ideas of printing on materials other than paper, making a design interactive and finishing effects such as embosing and spot gloss. Design Shown: Corn Exchange gallery invitation.

Proud Creative

January Issue 2007 Page 27 Proud Creative Unit 16, Second Floor Shoreditch Stables (North) 138 Kingsland Road London, E2 8DY Website: www.proudcreative.com Telephone: +44 (0)20 7729 6170 Email: hello@proudcreative.com Since learning more about type and layout, foundation offered me the opportunity to create some designs that woul show off my new skills. Designs that proud creative exampled sucessful designs that incouraged the designs I was creating. Design Shown: Retrospective-One poster and exhibition guide.

This taught me that a good design can be very simple yet still remain effective. Design Shown: HMV mothers day campaign.

:phunk studio

August Issue 2007 Page 30 :phunk Studio Lasalle College of the Arts 1 McNally Street Singapore 187940 Website: www.phunkstudio.com This exhibition design caught my attention as it was just after I we had our own foundation exhibition. The idea of presenting work is something that I really enjoyed. Design Shown: Browsing Copy exhibition branding (is at Useless Gallery, Suntec Singapore).

Stephen Owen

September Issue 2007 Page 26 Website: www.stephenowen.co.uk Email: e: hello[at]stephenowen.co.uk A simple design can also be more than just colourful and clear, this example shows that a design can be one colour and a colourful stock. The way that a design becomes sucessful is the way it presents the message to the audience. This prospectus was amoung one of the first that made me consider the way in which information is interpreted rather than how it was visually. Design Shown: Stockport College Prospectus.

Janet Froelich

September Issue 2007 Page 29 As I was becoming more interested in print based layouts, I saw Froelich as an inspiration as she worked with both type and image to get a story accross. The simple designs caught my attention, not only this but the use of both body text and the more decorative type. This mix of type characteristics encouraged me to think more about the type I was using. Design Shown: The New York Times Layouts and identity.

RBR Design

The print based designs are ones that I have always been influenced by within design agencies. The way that RBR uses unusual methods to coney the message is what influnced me within my designs. Design Shown: Tesco’s F&F range promotional posters.

Tom Hingston

Red Brick Road Design October Issue 2007 Page 12 Tom Hingston Studio 76 Brewer Street London W1F 9TX Website: www.hingston.net Telephone: +44 (0)20 7287 6044 Email: info@hingston.net Hingston’s designs have a crafted quality to the design. The image within these designs are the main focus and the type is less of a focal point. This is a new concept to me as my designs have always been type lead, so this is soemthing that I wanted to persue from seeing these. Design Shown: The Editors Album covers.
