When exposed to sunlight, black leather motorcycle clothing has the negative property of absorbing some 95 percent of the light, and thus heat. This is precisely what the new Cool System® technology from TFL prevents. During the production process special chemicals that reflect the sunlight are added. The key to this groundbreaking process is an infrared colorant, which repels sunlight in the same way as white leather does. Compared with conventional leather, the surface of an item of clothing made from Cool™-Leather is over twenty degrees cooler. Inside, the temperature falls to twelve degrees, representing a substantial improvement in comfort. In addition, the finishing process associated with the Cool System® technology makes for optimum lightfastness, thus affording the leather long-term protection against fading.

The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of GORE-TEX® products. The material has more than 1.4 billion micropores per square centimetre. These pores are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapour molecule. Gore has developed the comfort test in order to test the ­breathability and the climatic comfort of GORE-TEX® shoes. For this test, they insert artificial, «sweating» feet into the test shoes in a climate-controlled chamber. From the water vapour penetration and absorption, a climate factor is calculated, which represents a minimum standard depending on the purpose of the shoe. Every GORE-TEX® shoe newly developed by iXS is tested in this way.

The GORE-TEX® membrane is integrated between the upper material and lining in articles of clothing. It is the best ­protection against rain and wind. Sweat can evaporate unhindered. Even under extreme physical load, body moisture is rapidly transported outward. With GORE-TEX® clothing, the body remains always pleasantly dry and warm.

Only dry gloves keep hands warm. And only with warm hands does motorcycling become truly fun. The solution: GORE-TEX® gloves. They are permanently watertight, yet breathable.

Wetness from outside cannot penetrate into the glove. And moisture in the form of water vapour can escape from the ­glove. The result: Your hands are warm when the air is cold, and pleasantly dry while you are racing.

The airbag, which has been proved to be the most effective safety system for road users, has only been available to car drivers up to now. The iXS Stunt jacket now also enables motorcyclists to enjoy the added safety offered by an airbag. The airbag, an ­integral part of the jacket, is triggered by means of a ripcord attached to the motorcycle. The trigger mechanism activates a CO2 cartridge, inflating the airbag within half a second. The ­airbag remains inflated for 30 seconds, protecting the motor­ cyclist’s neck, spine, collarbone and breastbone as well as the kidney region and coccyx.

The WINDSTOPPER® membrane is an ultra thin protective layer which is laminated onto a light textile and so provides absolute wind tightness. It consists of the manysided polymer PTFE(Polytetrafluorethylene), which is stretched to receive a porous structure. The micro pores are 900 times bigger than the water vapour molecules, so that sweat can escape unimpededly. Thanks to this unique membrane technology all WINDSTOPPER® products are absolutely wind tight with an unchanged breathability and with no added weight to the original textile.

iXS Functional Underwear

Because what you are wearing underneath also determines whether you feel comfortable when it’s wet and cold.

Only with microfibre underwear do you get the full benefits of membranes such as GORE-TEX®, Sympatex®, soltoTEX®. However, functional underwear also ­provides extra comfort under leather clothing. It ­ regulates the important wicking of moisture when riding a motorbike or participating in other sports and leisure activities.

We recommend underwear in synthetic fibres, such as iXS FunctionWear for example, which allows perspiration to wick through it from where it is taken to the outside. When it gets cold, dress using the tried and tested multilayer principle: wearing several layers of clothing worn over one another keeps you warm longest. But make sure that air can circulate between the layers and that your freedom of ­movement is not restricted. Useful items of clothing such as a kidney belt or neck protector also help to keep the weather at bay.

Thanks to its Dacron 138 weave and a specially ­developed knitting process, functional underwear from iXS has maximum sweat transport capabilities (4l/m2/ h). Body moisture (sweat) is absorbed and dried in seconds, the skin feels absolutely dry. In addition, a fabric with Trevira Bioactive Fibres is used in heavy sweat zones. These high tech polyester fibres and filaments with permanent antimicrobial properties prevent ­bacteria from multiplying, stop the formation of odours and meet the highest hygiene demands. The silver ions (Ag+) built into the fibre polymers are the source of these properties. Trevira also holds the certificate for fabrics tested for harmful substances according to the Eco-Tex Standard 100. iXS functional underwear is easy care and pleasant to wear.

Softshell For generations we have known about the “onion-skin principle”. The best protection against the wind and weather is to wear three or more layers of clothing on top of each other: underwear, an intermediate layer and outerwear. If required, one layer can be taken off or put on. The air between the layers stores warmth – the more layers, the more pockets of air and therefore the greater the warming effect.
