urban collective our process is strongly influenced by a common interest among all team members on the function, value, formality, and formation of artists districts. as a group our persuit of creativity, as it is an expression of our own individual personality and focus, and the lack of space to create. this interest continued to draw our focus the sense of culture and identity that is so commonly associated within these creative districts. Present trends display that many of these spaces solely are viewed as a monetary value rather than the cultural value that is created.
02.
site context It is essential to create a collective that is responsive to the immediate context and urban fabric and responds to a full collective between artist and current residents of the neighboring residents. Hence the site lends itself to create a design parti that relates to creating an Urban Collective where residents of the future site and residents of the existing surroundings can commune, collect, and create. It is important to realize that in order to have a fully functioning urban collective there must be an appropriate balance between the creative individuals and consumers.

function of site program the intention of the urban collective program is to regain and restore the formation and evolution of creative districts by focusing on programatic elements that focus on ideals of collecting, creating, and communing.
03.
formation of site The urban collective provides a framework for creative individuals to create, collect, and commune. This framework is developed through strategies that focus on street layout, circulation hierarchy, responsive programming, open space, and the linking of landscape and architecture. The street layout was derived from adjacent street patterns and emphasized on an organic and authentic configuration that caters to creative individuals and community. Circulation hierarchy is essential for organization and way finding through the site. Commercial, retail, and residential districts are strategically located through responsive programming that allows each district to thrive and co-exist. Finally, open space and the linking of landscape and architecture provides further opportunities for individuals to create, collect, commune, and for a creative community to thrive.

district description The urban collective focuses on encouraging the sense of collaboration and interaction that is an identifiable characteristic within creative communities and concentrate those various programs and users into arranged pods. Within these pods exists a framework of build architectural form with a series of centralized public open spaces that seek to create a more harmonious balance between one’s private and social spaces. The contexts of circulation corridors begin to more specifically classify and define the program of the architecture and the central communal open space. The aim of this collective effort to more effectively integrate landscape and architecture is to allow creative individuals the opportunity to physically create goods and or services while also developing his or her sense of place, community, and culture within the shared communal public space.

final thoughts The initial research on different case studies helped us better understand the current issues present on our site in Culver City. After the research we began the design process and while going through different phases, with each creative design move, we learned more about the important principles of urban design. Based on our understanding of the site, we have created a place where creative individuals can collect, create, and commune, which we see as an essenstial part of developing culture.
THANK YOU
